Open Xenium Lcd Causing Issues.

Recommended Posts

I built myself a few open xeniums mainly to run a LCD on my 1.0. Everything does work but I'm having a strange issue with xenium os holding the wallpaper I selected and taking a few extra seconds to load my c or e partition when adding my .bins after reboot. It doesn't do it when the LCD is connected. Is this just the cpld being bogged down? Also noticed sometimes the LCD goes blank when playing games or navigating the menus.

What Bios are you using?

How big is your hard drive?

If a larger HDD has been installed, what size are the F and/or G partitions?

Is the DVD drive connected?

So are you saying it is slower with or without the LCD

The X2 and iND bios's need to look at the HDD to read their respective configuration files and that adds a couple of seconds, I have found the EvoxM8plus to be the quickest especially when set  like this.

evoxM8.PNG.7e580048cc82032657e40995e80066be.PNG

With the iND and the X2 bios you can speed the load time a fraction by disabling the boot animation.

Jesus. Okay clearly I forgot how to English in my original post. So in xenium os I'll select a wallpaper and when I reboot it reverts back to the stock wallpaper. When I go to select the wallpaper again I will have to select the wallpaper option, back out, reselect and then it will appear. The same thing happens when I am flashing bios to the banks. This doesn't seem to happen with my brothers 1.6 and only on my 1.0.

When you change the backdrop is it the correct size and resolution.

This is from Ryzee119 github

Skins require a 640x480 jpg file named backdrop.jpg with an associated Skin.cfg.
Skin.cfg configures the colour of the text, and menu objects etc. These lines represent a six digit HEX colour value. The comments in this example are provided for clarity only and must be removed before attempting to load the skin in XeniumOS.

An example might look like this:

So, I've been at this LCD all day. Didn't work at all this morning. Cleaned contacts, added a bit of pressure to the tabs behind the screen. Now I have a magic lcd screen - when I move my hand close to the rear of the lcd, all pixels populate, crystal clear, but when I remove my hand, the bottom letters dwindle away...

Is there any hope? Any ideas?

Dusted off my Xbox for the kids today - powered it up, it defaulted to MS dash and prompted me for the date and time (good thing, I recall the nightmare of endless loops last time)
Set the date, time, played a little Dance Dance Revolution on the native bios with the DVD-Rom (original media)
Expected to power the Xbox off, hit the eject button, and boot into Xenium/EvolutionX or whatever I last had installed on the dash... but only get the stock MS dash, and no signs the modchip is functioning.
Pulled the torx screws (had to find my screwdrivers) and opened it up.  Modchip is installed on LPC header with single wire soldered to the topside of the board.   Re-seated the modchip since I was in there, closed it all back up, hooked it back to the TV... still nothing but stock.
      Most likely cause of no-mod-signs-of-life?

I got a SPI2PAR2019 kit and an HD44780 compliant screen and tried to wire it up last night but ran into some problems. The LCD just shows zeroes on the screen. When it first powers up, I see 2 of the 4 lines filled with solid-square characters (two full rows of solid boxes, rows 2 and 4). Then after the Xbox boots up further, the screen goes blank, then shows zeroes (see photo). I'm also seeing some flickering on the screen showing the zeroes.
I checked the wiring diagram of the LCD I'm using and verified that points #1-16 correlate to points #1-16 on my LCD, so I don't think it's that. I also tried powering the arduino with a USB battery bank and that didn't make any difference. I have a 2nd LCD that showed the same issue. I have a 2nd spi2par but haven't wired that in yet. I've enabled LCD options in XBMC to no avail.
SPI2PAR2019 from Please login or register to see this link.
White on Blue 20x4 LCD Character Display from Please login or register to see this link.
      Wired through an OpenXenium modchip.
      Thoughts:
Shorten wire going from spi2par to LCD. Try getting rid of the wire entirely and just soldering the spi2par straight onto the back of the LCD. Perhaps the spi2par doesn't come pre-programmed? Not sure how to tell if it is or not. (I asked the seller for details) Please login or register to see this attachment.
