After several attempts at an refurbished WD 1TB SATA HDD, Kingwin ADP-06 adapter and 80 wire IDE cable, I threw those all into closet storage and went for the best instead. A brand new Samsung EVO 500GB SSD, Startech adapter and a Rontech 80 wire IDE cable...and an 80mm Noctua. Results are pretty cool to own:

Is that version 1.6 softmodded?

I had a samsung 1tb in a version 1.4 and pulled it back out as I could not notice a big enough speed increase if any over a 7200rpm hard drive.

Cheers

SS Dave

Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

Dave, yes, it's a Softmodded v1.6 console. I'm running modded games on here so far: GTASA (5 vehicles, 7 weapons), THUG 2 (6 Custom decks and a custom tee) & a modded Forza Motorsport 1 (several custom scripts for tuning vehicles with Ekszbox Forzamod).

It's running these games quickly for sure. I noticed the cursor on the GTASA pause menu over the map was blinking faster...lol

Falcon, that tray looks good. I'm going to order one if my SSD will fit. Does the tray mount to the Xbox's current HDD tray?

I can testify that the tray above will mount in the Xbox HDD tray and the screwholes will align properly. WD Velociraptor Icepacks will also work just as well too, I was lucky getting a bunch in a joblot.

Yes it mounts perfectly.

I have used it in my personal xbox and have had great success. The bracket will fit any 2.5inch drive.

Upgraded to SATA drive - using 80 pin and Startech Ide to Sata - have the Startech on cable select - after the clubbed I get error 11 - tried master as well - cable loads older 250 ide cable - I’d say the adapter but I locked the drive using h it in an ok’d ide pc and it worked fine - I’m totally stumped and would really appreciate your expert advice - thanks!

After upgrading my xbox HDD, it not only boots and runs 10 times slower, but the DVD drive now doesn't read any disk I put into the disk drive even official xbox games. It just says unknown. Now I don't mind the system booting up slower, but not reading anything in the disk drive is a major problem.
I followed this tutorial exactly (I used the exact parts and followed all steps)
