Clock Cap Removed and Deep Cleaned My Xbox.

Recommended Posts

I finally got around to removing the clock cap 😃 v1.2 board, though i would completely strip it down as it was half way in bits anyway, and give it a good clean out.  Washed the plastics etc cleaned motherboard, fan, heatsink (Still need to apply new thermal paste) popped her back together after the plastics had dried and to my amasement it works.

The cap was fine to be honest, no sign of any problems at all.  I was quite supprised how clean it was to be honest, just a light bit of dust on the motherboard.

Thanks allf or looking.

Hi Craiguk

For the 128meg upgrade there maybe a member here that will put there hand up. The 1st time I replaced a 80 pin micro it took me 60 minutes the ram upgrade I did the other night 90 minutes including 2 coffee stops 10 SMS and talking hands free for 15 minutes while soldering and board cleaning between each chip.

I got up in the morning and seen this on my bench, The Xblast lite chip is temporary to test each chip as I go then gets removed when it's all done.

Then I connect a SD card hard drive and sit a small fan on the heatsinks like below and soak test for 24 hours including launching some games, attract mode in CoinOps 8 and power cycles.

This fan is a quick adjustable temperature controlled setup I made and it keeps the CPU/GPU at 47c with the room temp around 25c.

That version 1.4 is one of the cleanest I have seen in a long time and it's for a forum member and he has some big plans for it.

This is my $5 version 1.4 and the ram upgrade happen because I could not sleep one night and it's come to a standstill for a bit.

This is one I am working on at the moment for myself and waiting on the ram chip that are on the  way.

As well as a N64 freaks internal HDMI to be fitted after the ram.

So far I have set Port 3 as a DVD dongle and USB port that can both work at the same time. Port 4 is the USB for the OGX360 interface.

Ports 1,2 are stock controller ports.

See if you can spot the DVD dongle.

And the Ir receiver for the DVD dongle is mounted 100% out of sight with no affect to the remote range (over 10 meters).

Wow that's impressive Dave, is the dongle mounted in front of the PSU I see a PCB?

What's that black box with a plug going into it below the GPU?

You said internal HDMI now then I need to know more about this 😁 you have any links to this little gem of a Mod, I'm all ears 👍

There is 2 types of internal HDMI

This one is based on a wii2hdmi and the PCB can be got from a chinese place called dirty pcb.

On this one I removed the 3.5mm socket thats for left.right audio out as it's not needed

IMG_20200226_233646.thumb.jpg.301c99686efd957adfd82a88a1083038.jpg

Then the better one is the N64 freak's version

IMG_20200226_233708.thumb.jpg.e4550d416a64d8e0430e5babf3592060.jpg

Both take the component signal and convert to HDMI  with the audio for the wii2hdmi taking the left and right audio and injecting it to the HDMI, The N64 freak version uses the digital audio to HDMI.

There is a fair size cost difference but you get what you pay for either a custom made item or a item that been modified to work. Picture wise it's a close call but the digital sound wins out especially if the rest of you sound system is up to it.

There has also been some work been done on a pure digital HDMI (no conversion from component) that looks like it grabs what it needs before the on board video chip.

The only negative is that Chimp the hard drive  cloning program won't display on anything above composite .

That is the OGX360

This is the original of the OGX360

ogx360.jpg.88f3cdd2241d56b2cbaea5ff88bd05f0.jpg

The one in mine came from Lukas (N64 Freak)

IMG_20200204_120029.thumb.jpg.e714a31f412d51835ffe803a767f49a9.jpg

Pros and cons

The original version is supplied as a 2  controller system but can be expanded to 4 controllers and if you use Xbox 360 controls and the usb receiver it will do up to 4 player. It can with a separate interface be internally fitted with auto switching from the stock ports and the USB receiver.

The version that's in mine is 2 player max using the Xbox 360 controls and usb receiver and has the switching built in and is really plug and play

With both versions it is feasible to fit the receiver inside the Xbox but you would need to remote mount a button for pairing the controllers.

Hi Craig

Here is an update on the previous posts

The Xbox has now got 128meg ram and a HDMI kit from N64 freak and I have rerouted the wiring a bit to test fit all the plastics

The USB holder was 3D printed (the pink part) and it came from a Facebook member via thingiverse.com and the OGX360(the black box with the USB plug near the Xblast chip) is the result of german engineering from N64 freak.

139624331_workinprogress1.thumb.jpg.c8e56af48db735ba8cde2fa6d7dc0e09.jpg

Without the DVD and Hard disk mounting                                                                 With the DVD/HDD mounts                                                       USB holder

I still need to glue the GPU heatsink or I might make a bracket to hold it in place using the hole left from the plastic holder and the CPU one is held with 4 screws using the holes from the OE plastic holder.

I have already flashed the TSOP with a X2-5032 BIOS so the mod chip can be removed and I am thinking a 2tb HDD fully loaded.

Cheers

SS Dave

Hello all. It's been a long time since I visited the old Xbox. I've modded quite a few back in the day and recently acquired a couple a few days ago in a box along with about 5 PS2s. I kinda got a little excited being as I haven't touched either one of them for several years. I had read about soft modding and wanted to try it since it didn't require any hardware or tools as I had gotten rid of everything I had. Well once I fired up the boxes I found both of them had hdd and dvd issues. I opened them up and, ..ugh. Both of them were 1.6b. Anyway, I jumped online and ordered a couple of Aladdin XT chips. It's slowed me down but has given me the time to look the forums over. I'm getting the itch back! I don't think the wife is going to like this all over again. Anyway I just wanted to say hi to everyone.

Located in Sweden but I ship worldwide.

Have four original XBOX base units that I need sell to clear some room here http://www.amibay.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
I have replaced the harddrives in all of them with bigger harddrives and flashed the BIOS with a custom BIOS.
All of the units work flawlessly EXCEPT the DVD drives in them which is a common problem with the original XBOX, sometimes they have problem ready discs or close or eject the tray.
This can be an easy fix, there are tons of helpful tips on the internet to solve this by for example cleaning and lubricating them, replacing the drive belt or calibrating the laser.

The units and prices are as follows:

      XBOX unit #1

      Version 1.6
SmartXX V3 chip with custom BIOS (can hold several BIOS'es)
      500GB IDE Harddrive

      €60

      XBOX unit #2

      Version 1.0
      TSOP'ed with custom BIOS
      80GB IDE Harddrive

      €35

      XBOX unit #3

      Version 1.1
      TSOP'ed with custom BIOS
      500GB IDE Harddrive

      €45

      XBOX unit #4

      Version 1.6
      Softmodded
      1TB SATA HDD

      €50

All the units are in good condition for it's age, I can provide you with pictures and screenshots if there's a need.

Buyers pays for postage and shipping.

Softmod.  64mb xbox.  I originally thought it was cheap component cables. Replaced, didn't work.  Thought bad component connectors, switched televisions.  Still didn't work.

I haven't found any pattern yet.  Has this happened to anyone else?    The blockiness/stuttering will start happening in a game or emulator, then keep happening even upon restart on the menu. Any tips?  Thanks!
