KaosEngineer
Get into X3 Config Live (hold the white button on startup) then use the menu option Reset X3 Configuration to Defaults. Does it work now?
drageset
I've reset to default, but no difference I'm afraid. I had just reflashed the bios (to X3 3294), so thought it should already be clean (One noticable difference is that the "X3 Rox my box" splash stays on a lot longer than earlier). Testing HeXEn 2017 and 2019, the same thing happens: After the initial blob screen with the "X3 Rox my box", screen goes to black, and then shows the UnleashX splash screen after 40 second and returns to black. It continues like this forever (I've stopped it after 12 minutes). There's 3-4 seconds of activity from the DVD-rom after each disappearance of the UnleashX splash screen. KaosEngineer
When booting HeXEn, is the Eject ring RED?
drageset
Yes. Green when the Xbox boots, then changes to red after 10-11 seconds after I hit the power button. At this point the Xecuter Rox my box is still visible. It the goes to black, and after 40 seconds the UnleashX splash screen appears for 2-3 seconds and then black again. KaosEngineer
On my Xbox with an X3 modchip booting the X3 BIOS Build 3294 with the HeXEn 2018 disc already loaded into the tray. I see similar operations; however, I never see an UnleashX splash screen. The console displays HeXEn's main menu. Are you using HeXEn 2017, 2018 or TruHeXEn 2019? (Oops you already said the versions you'd tried earlier)
drageset
Which version Xbox do you have, and which brand is your DVD-drive? When stating "I see similar operations", what do you mean? Is you HeXEn DVD booting fully, or are you just seeing the main menu briefly? I.e. does it work? I've tried both HeXEn 2019 and TruHeXEn 2019, but no difference. I'm running out of ideas now. SS_Dave
I tested a version 1.4 with X3 chip using X3_3294 bios, using a Thomson DVD, SD to IDE adaptor,Internal wii2hdmi,128mb ram, Hexen 2019 burnt on Verbatim DVD-r using a Acer DVD burner. Same everything with a Samsung DVD Drive TruHexen,AID deluxe 4,Hexen 2017, Slayer 3.3.0, Slayer 2.7 and all disks booted 100% . A version 1.6 with a X3 chip component video out booted Hexen 2019 ok as well. To me if it did not load Hexen I would not lose any sleep of Hexen as Hexen has p!ssed me off with the crap it puts HDD and it changed my dash just because I installed Xblast from the install DVD and the fact that I get hammered on Facesook if I mention that I use Slayers. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It get's the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
KaosEngineer
By Similar operations during the startup process, I mean: When powered on, the flubber animation plays, the DVD heads move to recognize the HeXEN 2018 disc that's preloaded in the DVD tray then beneath the big X logo appears: Xecuter Rox My Box More data is read from the disc and the front panel Eject ring LEDs turn RED. There's a long delay of about 40-45 seconds that I believe is the processing of the config.xml file for UnleashX. Next, the big Xbox logo with Xecuter logo below it fade to a blank screen and in a few seconds finally, HeXEn's main menu appears and options from it can be selected and executed. I never see an UnleashX logo appear between the fade out of the big X screen and the appearance of the menu. Sorry, I did not make it clear what was happening in my previous post. The burned disc I have made for HeXEn 2017, 2018 and TruHeXEn 2019 all work. They all boot to the main menu and operations can be performed from the menu. My Xbox is a v1.1 and has a Philips DVD drive.
KaosEngineer
Are all the Samsung drives listed in your table the same drive that boot some installer discs but not others?
KaosEngineer
Which AV cable are you using? Not that it should make any difference. I'm using the standard definition composite cable in all of my testing.
drageset
Thanks guys, I really appreciate you bothering to reply to my problem. It's not so much that I'm desperate about HeXEn, rather annoyed for not being able to figure it out. It's the same Samsung drive swapped between two Xboxes yes. Standard composite cable used in both cases. Seems that instead of processing thecongif-xml file I'm just getting the splash screen (Unleash X stays on for 5 secs). KaosEngineer
Check the directory listing of the files on the DVD (D:\) on the Xbox What are the sizes of default.xbe and config.xml?
drageset
Not sure I understand why that would matter, when the DVD works in another XBOX? Anyway, helpful for all suggestions TruHeXEn 2019 - default.xbe - 22.272, config.xml - 223.815 (Verbatim DVD-R) TruHeXEn 2019 - default.xbe - 22.272, config.xml - 223.815 (TDK DVD-R) HeXEn 2017 - default.xbe - 22.272, config.xml - 220.843 (Verbatim DVD-R)
KaosEngineer
Okay, I had not remembered that it worked in another console with this same disc. I should have though. You posted a list of all the consoles you tried. 1.4 Xboxes have lot of little gotchas. Pound Technology HD-Link video output anomalies, DVD drive problems, what else? That tells me enough really I'll ditch it and move the X3 over to another Xbox. This is my only 1.4, so I didn't know they were no good. Thanks. KaosEngineer
Not that they were no good. There just seem to be ghosts in the machine - works of some of them.
drageset
I'm pretty sure I've got one of them, so considering I've got no Ectomobile I'm better off not using it. Thanks for all your helpful input.
