Hello

I am having issues with Emustation Snes9xbox by Mednefen NES/SNES error with loading ROMs.
I have done the folllowing:

downloaded emustation zip file -> extracted the folder on Windows 11 -> it has XBMC-Emustation folder inside an XBMC-Emustation folder -> I extracted the internal folder and FTP it to my OG Xbox -> installed the emulators including NES and SNES -> placed ROMs inside relevant folders for each system -> choose rom to boot from Emustation console system-> NES goes to emulator menu then when I select a game it fails everytime with permissions error and SNES just a blank screen - all others working including SEGACD

Error message is permissions error.

also tried:

downloaded emustation zip file->  FTP it to my OG Xbox -> unzipped as is -> installed the emulators including NES and SNES -> placed ROMs inside relevant folders for each system -> choose rom to boot from Emustation console system-> NES goes to emulator menu then when I select a game it fails everytime with permissions error and SNES just a blank screen

Have I missed a step or done something I should not have?

Specs:
OG XBOX v1.6
Video encoder:   XCalibur
NTSC ACER LCD
Softmodded with Rocky5
UnleashX Dash
latest XBMC-Emustation (compiled Jul27 2024)

Thank you for looking into this NokSueCow.

Yes, the zip file was downloaded from the link above.  The emulators and games populate the carousel but error out for nes and snes with the above errors.
The good news is that if I open the emulator for nes or snes from within file explorer (bypassing XBMC-Emustation), the emulator and games work perfectly.  Only when I go through XBMC_Emustation does the above issue occur.

I will attach the folder structure screenshots below.

Can you show me your roms\nes and snes folders please. As once emustation is unloaded its out of my hands, so if you're in the emulators menu then that's no my problem as I didn't code the emulators.

Your list of events is a bit hard to follow, can you record a video of what you're doing and upload it here so I can see whats happening.

Thanks Rocky5 for looking at this.  Firstly, thanks for your hard work with softmodding the OG XBox, it has oppened me up to the hardware, possibilities and helping save hardware for fututre generations by recapping and repairing.

I apologise if my post/s above confused anyone with my workflow.  Focusing on SNES only, I did the following:

downloaded emustation zip file ->  FTP it to my OG Xbox -> unzipped on xbox -> installed the SNES emulator from the downloader -> placed ROMs snes folder within the roms folder -> manually searched for games from emusation menu -> selected SNES console from emustation menu -> chose game to boot from list -> NES shows error with permissions.

Emustation game selection works with all other consoles, except nintendo and snes.  I will delete all roms and put only one in the snes folder, test and report back bfore uploading a vid.
Thanks again.

NES & SNES is included with emustation so you don’t need to install anything from the downloader.

I will check later tonight, but I have never heard of the permission error with the emulator.

Thanks Rocky5, I really appreciate your time but I resolved the issue.  Due to my overorganisation and oversight, the roms were in folders for each game individually - as there are multiple versions I had for JPN and ENGLISH versions that I use for study - and that seemed to interfere with reading the rom (hence the permissions error).  I removed all roms and folders and placed one game in there to test.  It worked as expected.  I will test on nes roms as well.  I am guessing this is expected behaviour when having roms inside a subfolder?

I am creating a quick python script on my desktop now to extract the many many roms from the folders and just have them sitting in the snes folder without subfolders.

Hope this helps Rocky5 if others have the same permissions error.  I did a search on the forum but couldnt locate any info on this issue hence I posted.  Thanks Rocky5 and NokSueCow for kindly helping resolve this.

Yeah sub folders isn’t supported, only ISO systems have support for sub folders.

Windows has a search function for that, just type in '.zip' and copy/paste the roms to a new folder instantly. If not zip, they should all be the same extension.
