Mobile Pentium III Tualatin installation

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was wondering if the installation of a mobile Pentium III 1333 MHz would be possible in an og Xbox. This would be a lot easier, since you wouldn't have to use an interposer and modify the heatsink. Has anyone tried this set?

There were late mobile Tualatins released in the mPGA479M package.

Those however would still require an interposer - the OGXbox CPU was designed with BGA495/Socket 495 in mind, a socket mostly present during the Coppermine era on 440BX based laptops - Compaq's Armada E500 and M700 come to mind with this socket.

The fastest non interposer BGA495 Pentium III CPU is 1Ghz.

They usually need flowing off a slot 1 cpu card or a pinned interposer 495.

The 1333 Mhz P3 is the larger socket 370 chip and requires the same interposer as for all Tualatins.

I believe that is the processor that Trusty used in his 1Ghz boards.

It would be interesting to see a mPGA479M to 495 adapter w/ one of those mobile Tualatin P3s. Their footprint is only a bit bigger than the original BGA495 CPUs.

I need to figure out what bare minimum BGA tools look like (not the reflower) and finally use the 10 interposers I have just sitting and waiting.
