Hey guys, I have an old Xbox I'm a noob and don't even know where to start I just want to replace my Hard Drive and have games on said Hard Drive but I do not know how. Can someone please help. I just want to play Halo with friends.
  3. Hi folks, Am a very newbie lol , I bought an original Xbox soft modded (0.38.0515A Build 565) . Worked fine for few days, but now 95% of the time when i boot it up I can hear the click of death... CLICK CLIcK ... the Hard drive is dying and it stays in the boot screen. Every-time i try to read/write from the hard drive (FTP) it starts clicking and I can't do anything and sometimes a screen with error 09 appears. I learned from searching on google ,that I need a HDD key to replace the hard drive before it dies completely , so I managed to copy it from the UnleachX info screen ( HDD key + Serial number ). Is it possible to replace the hard drive ? Is there any hope ? PS: I do not have any soldering tools/skills and sorry for my English. Thank you in advance
  4. Hi all! I need some help with switching out the hard drive in my XBOX. I've been battling with it for some time, so I decided to get some help. My XBOX version is 1.1. I currently have it softmodded with Rocky5's softmod. Originally, I had gotten a 1TB SATA drive for my XBOX (WD10EZEX-22MFCAO, which seemed like a good choice, since many other WD10EZEX drives seemed to work for others in the hard drive compatibility chart). Along with it, I got a SATA to IDE adapter, an 80-wire IDE cable, and the molex power splitter. When I first attempted to configure the drive, the exposed contacts from the back of the SATA to IDE adapter (where the power connects in) touched the back of the hard drive when I was hot swapping the IDE cable. There was a spark (I didn't think to cover the connection), and since CHIMP would never load, I assumed I had fried the drive. I ordered another one, and it wouldn't work either, so I realized it was a compatibility issue. After this, I decided to switch to a smaller, cheaper IDE drive (this Maxtor Diamond Plus 9 hard drive) that a friend said he had gotten to work before. I ordered it and attempted to configure it (using the original 40 wire IDE cable and no SATA to IDE adapter of course), and while I was able to launch CHIMP, it errors out part way through the process. Here's what I've been doing: Install CHIMP to E:/Apps, and place linuxboot.cfg into my E: drive Open the XBOX. Unplug the molex cable from the original hard drive and connect the splitter to it, one end of which I connect back to the original hard drive Place the new hard drive on top of my DVD drive (with the antistatic bag the drive came in between them) Check the mode of my new hard drive. I have tried it both with the jumper in the Cable Select Enabled position, and in Slave mode (no jumper) Launch the XBOX and wait 5 minutes for the DVD drive to go to sleep Swap the IDE cable from the DVD drive to the slave drive (within 5 seconds) Go to my applications list and launch CHIMP On the first menu button prompt, I press A to confirm that the slave drive is connected CHIMP begins to run its processes. After loading for a bit, it gets stuck on a screen saying that it can't allocate resources, with a picture of the Linux penguin in the top right I'm assuming that since CHIMP can actually boot up with this drive, that the problem might not be the drive itself, though I could be wrong (with the previous WD10EZEX drives, my XBOX would just completely freeze up when I booted CHIMP). I've tested my XBOX with just the existing hard drive installed, and that has no problems, as I'm able to play games fine and navigate through the dashboard just fine. I'm not entirely sure where my problem could be coming from, so any help would be greatly appreciated!
  5. I copied some emulators through ftp to the G partition of my HDD, I was using WinSCP for this. When I finished, I closed the connection and then reset my Xbox with Lt+Rt+Back+Black; I got the Bios screen, the UnleashX boot screen (I'm using a custom skin, so the skin version of the boot screen appeared) and then...nothing, just a black screen. First I thought the video was bad, but that was not the case, then I tried to boot on safe mode but nothing happened. Some people on a subreddit tell me to use Hexen to install another dashboard, I don't know if this is going to work tho. Please, if you know what's wrong with my Xbox let me know, I'm scared
  6. Yesterday I ftp'd Conker Live and Reloaded to my Xbox v.1.0 , however the game doesn't boot up, instead it displays a message saying: "there is a problem with your disc, it may be damaged or dirty". I tried patching the game with ACL in DVD2Xbox but nothing happens, I still get the same error. Is there something more I'm not taking in account?
  7. I have an old softmodded Xbox with a 2TB hard drive that is loaded. I just ordered a new Xbox that I will be softmodding. How do I move my 2TB hard drive from the old Xbox to the new one? (I want to keep everything that's on the 2TB hard drive) Please keep it simple. I'm new to this whole modding thing. Detailed step by step would be much appreciated.
  8. So ive been trying to clone my original xbox hard drive over to a wd1600aajs hard drive and i cannot get it to work. I have to set my jumper to slave to even get chimp to boot right, this is the adapter i used people said it worked for them in the comments and i wasn't really trying to spend the like 25 bucks for a good one. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JVUXMRI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  11. I have a 1.0 Xbox that has the dreaded "Christmas Lights" flashing on the eject button. It tries to boot twice before doing its signature Red and Green flashing. Nothing is displayed on the TV so no codes are provided. It also makes a terrible noise when it fails to boot up. After tearing it down completely, cleaning everything top to bottom, removing the clock capacitor (which did not leak thank god), opening and inspecting the DVD drive then hooking everything back up I'm about 99% sure the condition and noise is being caused by a faulty HDD. My question is, assuming my diagnosis is correct, if I bought a SATA HDD (with the proper cables and converter) and installed an Aladdin XT Plus2 Modchip inside would it bring this Xbox back to life? Again, the theory is that the original HDD took a shat so I'm not worried about the DVD drive or motherboard. If there are any other steps I should take (EXCEPT softmodding and replacing the whole console) please let me know. If you require any other information I can also provide it for you. Thank you for your time and help on the matter!
  12. Upgraded my tsop xbox with a 2tb hard drive which replaced the 500gb sata drive, I have tried wiping this drive 500gb but windows or Linux refuses to because it doesn't see it correctly, what am I doing wrong, I don't want to brick the drive.
  13. Have been watching the null eeprom video on YouTube, specially interested for the 1.6 xbox, little confused on the upgrade of a larger hard drive, after the null eeprom you can't just drop in a blank larger hard drive or can you like you can with Tsop system.
  14. Hello, Just wondering if anybody else has encountered something similar. My hard drive is 250 gigabytes, xbox sees it as 23o gig but my issue is that my f drive where Ninja Premium (all packs 70ish gigs) and games (18 are 1-2 gigs, some are only 500megs) only occupy 12oish gigs, I see this by trying to delete it and then it shows me the size before confirming. I had f occupy all the leftover space with the partition tool when I copied my original drive but it just doesn't seem correct. I'd hate to redo everything, since ftp'ing takes forever. Are there any "hidden" files I should be looking for? If I do "start over" should I just do the regular formatting ie: f,g drives etc....? Thanks !!!!!!! EDIT: Realized I posted in Hardware Mods. Could this be moved to general if not allowed. Thanks again..
  15. Hi everybody, first time here in SO long. I've had a modded Xbox since 2003 which I just turned back on after I heard out about the clock capacitor problem. Mine was ok (I was able to remove it and clean up alright) but having it back on I've found the hard drive to be quite loud and maybe not running so great. I wanted to replace the hard drive but I'm not sure if my old Chameleon modchip throws a wrench into the tutorials I've been looking at. If possible the method of hotswapping the DVD drive with the new HDD and cloning the original drive seems easiest. Any suggestions before I start fumbling through this are very much appreciated! And I have all the stats on my current setup if needed. Thanks so much for the help!!
