Error 6 is a bit unusual as it means the HDD is locked but can not be unlocked by that Xbox. It might happen if somebody had just swapped a HDD from another stock or softmodded Xbox and expected it work. It could also mean that the HDD has been locked using the wrong eeprom by other means. Either way you're not going to be able to get that HDD working with that Xbox. 'Easiest' solution would be to chip the Xbox then you can use a new unlocked HDD and format/install a dash by disc or using FATXplorer. The only other solution would be to get the eeprom off the the Xbox and use that to lock a new HDD, again formatted/installed using FATXplorer. Maybe other solutions but with the info supplied I think one of those two are your best bets.

The "Xecuter Rox My Box" message, AFAIK, is just an indication that the Xbox is using a Xecuter BIOS not that it is chipped. It probably is and if not then it must be TSOPed but you can't be sure about the chip/TSOP without opening the Xbox up. That must have happened already so it is not as though it is a virgin machine. It is easy to do and all you need is a set of Torx screwdrivers. If there are no external switches arrays attached at the front or side of the console then it is probably not a Xecuter chip, at least not a 2.6, 2.6CE or Xecuter 3.

Burned CD media is indeed the most problematic type with several Xbox DVD drives makes/versions won't boot with it at all. Even the bullet proof and proven most trouble free DVD drive the Hitachi doesn't like CD-R. Oddly though it is (my one) happy with CD-RW so if you have CD-RW it is worth at least trying it. If it doesn't work you haven't wasted a disc.

Can large cluster size affect HDD speed on the XBox?
HDShadow replied to PRince404's topic in General Xbox Discussion
FYI: With modern PCs whether you're using a cross-over cable of not should be irrelevant. They (the PC) can detect the signals whatever pins are being used as the cables are exactly the same as a standard ethernet cable just with the plug one end being wired differently, essentially just reversed. The only time now you do need a cross-over cable is when FTPing directly between two Xboxes using the UnleashX file manager's built in FTP client. I think XBMC's file manager allows Xbox to Xbox FTP but I've never looked into that. In short the cross-over cable should make no difference to the speed. But as MadMartigan suggested it is worth try a new ethernet cable (Cat 5 S/STP) just to see if the cable itself is involved in any way with the perceived speed drop. -
I was thinking about this last night as I was going to reply with pretty much just what KE said in his first sentence ^. But I later thought about what the OP's problem is and I realised I did not understand, exactly, what he is trying to do. I was thinking that maybe the OP does not know that with a primary Unleash dashboard GUI, which is what most installer/rescue discs use, you can have multiple versions of any dashboard. That includes different UnleashX versions installed as Apps in their own unique folder allowing each one to use its own unique config.xml. As long as the launch XBE in the folder is renamed to "default.xbe" it will be listed in Apps or under any other "List" name chosen in an edited primary dasboard's config.xml. You could even install folders with "default.xbe" inside which were actually shortcut XBEs to launch various UnleashX dashboards each with with a customised config.xml anywhere else on the Xbox. Maybe I've just misunderstood the OP's intentions and it is more complex than I thought it was. But it just seemed to me from the original description of the XBEs he want to launch all using the same "classic" config.xml sounds like he has put a UnleashX dash XBE in a folder and tried to launch it without the customised config.xml he wants to use being in the same folder. Without that the UnleashX dash XBE simply creates its own default config.xml and item.xml within that folder. Is that actually the problem?

The syntax used for XBMC and EvoX BIOS ID listing is slightly different and very particular. This was a long time ago now but when I added my own custom Evox BIOS MD5 hash to the list of BIOS IDs in XBMC, EvoX and BIOSChecker they required different syntax to get them recognised. You've clearly understood that. But those differences can just be spacing or particular character use. Maybe you've entered them with some small fault in the syntax; its difficult to know what from your post above as the forum display might add its own 'quirks'. Just had a look at my own BIOS ID info and this is what the BIOS ID for the same BIOS hash should look like for XBMC and Evox dashboards:- XBMC:- (512)Evox M8+ 1.6 FC.137+=195CA0E3C2CFCC6E409F0357D28AD1C6 EvoX:- Rom="(512)Evox M8+ 1.6 FC.137+",0x195CA0E3C2CFCC6E409F0357D28AD1C6 Comparing this with what you've posted I'd suspect the spacing you appear to have used for both the XBMC and EvoX BIOS ID may be the problem eg. there should be no space between ROM and the = sign and similarly throughout what you've posted here.

Cannot Get Xbox 1.4 To see new Hard Drive
HDShadow replied to gonefishing1975's topic in TSOP Flashing
So it was the SATA > IDE adapter. I've used the 'generic' green ones, bought from different sources, and the Xboxes in regular use they're fitted in have work perfectly for years. In fact the only hardware problem I've had with the Xboxes fitted with SATA drives has been one of a pair of IDE (80 wire) cable I bought from the same seller. -
Cannot Get Xbox 1.4 To see new Hard Drive
HDShadow replied to gonefishing1975's topic in TSOP Flashing
It needs to be reformatted to FatX for use with Xbox. It doesn't matter whether the HDD is previously unformatted or NTFS or Fat32. If the TSOP is working an installer disc should, as said, at least cold boot and walk you through a dashboard installation. My guess that if would be either a problem with the SATA> IDE adapter or the HDD itself. If you you used an Evox M8+ BIOS and it was flashed correctly it is as good as any with a v1.4. Does the original HDD you must have used when flashing the BIOS to the TSOP still work OK? -

Or format and install a dash by installer disc. Error 9 is an odd one and the general advice suggested in such cases is try another HDD. If the current one won't at least cold boot an installer disc there is something else going on. -
That's a really old chip; it would be interesting to know what it is. Looks sort of like a MuppetX or X-Shadow but I can't find an exact match. If it were me I'd try to find out more about before doing anything. By the look of it apart from the Phoenix BFM (Boot From Media) it has both Evox M7 and Evox M8 BIOS options too. All possibly usable. ^ Just as I posted - thanks for info.

Pulled an old console out of storage today and was greeted by this......
HDShadow replied to nikeymikey's topic in Dashboards
Which files or where precisely can you add custom backgrounds to the MC360 skin? The MC360 skin versions I have eg. Carbon just have colour themes no actual images. -

HDShadow replied to nikeymikey's topic in Dashboards
I have a MC360 XB360 Blades style skin that works OK on XBMC4Xbox. There was an issue with one MC360 skin version where there were warnings it caused trouble with XBMC v3.0 series dashboards but it was fixed I think by somebody at the XBMC4Xbox web site. Blackbolt's Xbox-Classic skin which is what I still use was mostly fixed at around the same time too and there was (unfinished) work done on several other older skins that had issues with the XBMC v3.0 series to make them compatible as well. The JX720 skin indeed makes the MC360 now a bit redundant but the OP's version is still interesting not least because of the England football (soccer) theme. Not seen that before. -
You're not using EvoX; that's the (official) final build of UnleashX. The mention of DVD2Xbox might be significant if you've played around with the settings, particularly the skins. This can cause more general problems, for what reason I have no idea. Try deleting DVD2Xbox entirely, the DVD2Xbox game saves (UDATA/TDATA), the E:\CACHE and the content of of X, Y and Z ie. not the actual drives, just the content. Reboot and and see if that fixes the problem.

This looks like it may be a pretty early softmod install of some sort but I've no idea how clicking on any XBE in the file manager could have done this. If it was SID there would be a E:\Backup folder so it is unlikely that. What it does sound to be is a dual boot system with the MS dash set up as the secondary one on the eject button. This was typical of Xboxes being used regularly online to avoid MS Xbox Live bans for using a modded Xbox. You could try disconnecting the ethernet network cable and I wouldn't be surprised if it booted to the MS dash but I wouldn't be surprised either if it booted to a blank screen. All E:\drive content screenshot might be useful as we've only the folder view so far. The softmod boot XBE will be on E:\ not C:\ and if it is an EvoX dash there should be an evox.ini there and the remains of the UnleashX dash, its config.xml and item.xml. If it is an Evox dash with an apparently limited main menu have you tried pressing the Back or B button. Somebody may have customized the evox.ini to display, initially, only the Launch DVD and dash Settings because that is all they needed. However the other menu items may still be there but they're not likely to help you fix the problem. The important thing is that clearly the softmod is still working or you wouldn't have FTP access. You could probably fix this relatively simply by FTP but as something has clearly 'gone on' and it is unlikely anyone here will or even could know exactly what you did it may be best off doing what nikeymickey suggested.

I went on to Amazon.ca and I see what you mean - a lot of rip off pricing. If you're still only using the original IDE HDD there is at least one seller offering a 40 wire 60cm/24" for a strangely low price of $3.96 but with $7.49 shipping and there is at least one 80 wire one, odd length, 40cm/15.7" at under $10. Whether they're any good, that's another matter. Not something I've tried myself but there are IDE M > M plug connectors so you might be able to join to two relatively cheap 45cm/18" 80 wire cables together for less than cost of a single 60cm/24" one. More cable origami required too. You can also order from Amazon.com or Amazon.co.uk but it does depend on the seller whether they ship internationally or not. The shipping and Canadian customs charges may make doing this uneconomic anyway but as that can depend on what your personal online import buying allowance is in Canada perhaps it is worth looking into.

A good bet is one of the default MS fonts like Segoe or MS Sans Serif but I tried those and other MS/Microsoft fonts and no close match. The 'g' in "all rights reserved" is the thing to look at and I had a thought about it as I know another default font that does 'g' like that which is Calibri and everything else seems a match or at least a close match too.
-
I'm not sure if the font used for the MS Xbox dashboard can be extracted. You can use it for UnleashX skins by simply using, where appropriate in the skin.xml :- <InfoFont>CaptionFont</InfoFont> and/or <Font>CaptionFont</Font> There are some lookie-likie TTF fonts such as Xbox.ttf but, very much like Zrnic.ttf and Emotion Engine.ttf which are supposed to be the original Playstation font, it is OK-ish for the casual observer but not authentic or even that close to the genuine original font.

XBXTools is the program is the name of the better XBX image creation tool. It only works with DDS (Direct Draw Surface type B4G4R4A4 aka: Linear, A4R4G4B4) originals so you have to convert your JPG, PNG or whatever to that first. It has some quirky wierdness. When you use the "Build XBX" option if the result is an incomprehensible error message then try these 'solutions: XBXTools may need to be used as admin and works best if everything is done on the desktop or at least a single level folder. There are some file naming issues too. Keep the latter short and one word and the same as the DDS. To top it all once the XBX file is created you cannot actually view it on PC (at least not with any graphics software I know) so it is a good idea to pair it in a folder with the DDS file you created it from so you can identify it. As DDS files are not supported by the Xbox adding the original JPG, PNG or whatever to the same folder or using it instead of the DDS makes sense too. The only place I know where you can find a download for XBXTools 0.1.0.0 is XboxHQ and it might just be a VIP only one too. Don't confuse it with XBX Image Converter v3.0, also available there. That is the one which produces nasty quality 128x128 ones. That program will need to be installed on PC unlike XBXTools which is a standalone. I also seem to remember that some installs of the XBX Image Converter v3.0 are prevented because of a faulty file and whether the program works with Windows 10/11 I have no idea.

With UnleashX you can change the skin path used in the settings very easily. It will still include the default embedded UnleashX skins whatever the location. I have all my UnleashX skins in F:\Skins\UnleashX. All you need to do is go to the UnleashX menu: System > Settings > System and scroll down to the Skin Path entry. Click on it and enter the the path to the skins folder you want to use.

Application for Viewing Photos and Images on ogXbox
HDShadow replied to Thehandsomecow's topic in Homebrew
The UnleashX File Manager will display PNG, JPG, BMP(?) and XBX. You can also enable a slide show of any images you have o the Xbox as a screensaver. XBMC will do the same in its File Manager displaying the first three types too but not XBX (the Xbox game save icon image file format). The XBMC 'Picture' menu now does little more than the File Manager but it can also run a slide show using any image files it finds on the Xbox. Both dashboards have a few rudimentary image controls; XBMC can rotate the image that's about the only difference AFAIK. -
I use 256x256 icons for UnleashX and XBMC thumbnails. Particularly because UnleashX has some upper limit icon cache issues I keep the 256x256 icons as small as possible, ideally below 50KB. So generally I swap between JPGs and 'optomised' PNGs, whichever creates the smallest file size but doesn't compromise the PQ. You can get them very small if you reduce the colour bit depth setting but below 24-bit unless you're using the colour in monotone blocks it can look pretty ugly. For game save icons with UnleashX you need a .XBX conversion tool. There are only two I know and one of them is pretty poor, just creating lousy PQ 128x128. The other, whose name I can't remember either, is better and creates .XBX image files of any size. That can be a good or bad thing. I'll have to check in my Xbox tool archive for more information on that but I know it wasn't that easy to find the last time I wanted to download it. BTW TitleImage.xbx and SaveImage.xbx can be the same/any size but it is still a good idea to minimise the file size where possible. There is also a minor problem with some games that overwrite the SaveImage.xbx each time they are saved in a different slot. You may just have to accept the poor PQ embedded .XBX being used. TBH I rarely use the XBMX Game Saves Manager; it is a law unto itself where the Game Save Manager icons it uses come from. XBMC can't display .XBX image files which makes managing then on XBMC a pain so I simply don't bother.

Yes, pretty much. TBH because my primary chipped Xbox v1.6 is waiting for me to pluck up the courage to replace the failed Xecuter chip with a Xenium I bought months ago I haven't done any Xbox UnleashX skin editing recently. As said the layering capability isn't in the UnleashX manual and I only discovered it when I started examining and using existing UnleashX skin.xmls for my own skin templates. I asked, I think on the Xbox Scene forum, what "zindex" meant and somebody there explained. Over the years I passed on that info on several other forums when UnleashX skinning matters came up. I may not be remembering this 100% correctly but I'm pretty sure that at least one now well known Xbox expert posted that up until then they were not aware about this UnleashX facility. But, as I said earlier here, for anything more than the use of just a replacement background imported image layering is an important tool. With any graphics program understanding how to use layering is pretty much essential and it is used in UnleashX in exactly the same sort of way for doing things like putting frames around a game preview or including permanent text or graphical elements. One thing to remember is that by default everything, including game previews, are in the 1st layer over the primary background image. AFAIK there is no syntax to change that for game previews. That is why you'll likely need to create any image layers above it with a cut out window so that the preview is not hidden. Also when you add a layer the 'Source' text elements like time/date, available drive space, temperature, game title etc etc are by default also all in the 1st layer too. But in those cases you can shift them up a layer or layers over the image you've added by using the a "zindex" entry for each 'Source' being used in the skin.xml. Many UnleashX skins do not include X and Y scaling information in each 'Source' entry which is why with those skins you can get weird things happening to the text when you change the resolution. It is a boring job to do but one useful consequence is that you have a text size altering tool for each 'Source' which does not rely on you having the appropriate font in the required size. For instance with one skin I edited it included an overlay with a small designated box for the Xbox's 'Nickname'. Problem is that it was not designed for anything longer than six letters in the primary font size used. I didn't want to change the font size for all the other text but by adding reduced percentage X and Y scaling info to the 'Source' 'Nickname' entry it solved the problem.

If it is chipped and the DVD drive is working then any installer/rescue disk should boot and it can probably be fixed either by FTP or using the the file manager. However it is difficult to guess what could have been done to cause this if it is chipped. Even if the main dash had been corrupted you'd expect it still to boot to something, typically the MS dash or an Error 5. Suddenly sticking on the loading screen is unusual. It could be a hardware failure of some sort.

I think it needs saying, again, just to make it clear all these games run on a v1.6 Xbox just not in ED/HD resolutions. In the absence of a HDMI solution being available you can always use AV Composite, S-Video or RGB SCART and they will run fine (NTSC/PAL60 480i/60Hz or, if the game is not region locked: PAL50 576i/50Hz).

UnleashX Restarting When Trying To Add Icons To Xbox Games List.
HDShadow replied to Jessicafligo's topic in UnleashX
^ I think that may be involved too. What extensions do the icon files have? If UnleashX doesn't recognise a file type it will often do what the OP describes. I'm wondering is they're short cuts to the icon archive being used rather than actual image files.- 12 replies
