  1. Hello, I purchased this chip a while back and decided to install it in my TSOP modded Xbox so I could add another LCD unit to my collection. the pin header section was removed by the previous owner, which I do not think is a problem because I seen a video of someone using the same chip with the wire install using the solder pads as I did. Every time I press power or eject It frags, but if I remove the DO it boots my TSOP fine. I tried all the button presses to try to get the OS to load, but no go. I have been searching online now for a few hours to no avail, not much info on this chip left out there now. I am hoping someone here has experience with this chip. I see there are 3 spots labeled JP1, JP2 and JP3. it appears they are for adding switches for hard selecting a bios on the chip but I'm just not sure. I think someone flashed it incorrectly, is there a way to rescue the chip? I keep seeing posts about there being a backup on the chip to rescue it.
  2. no matter what settings you use, the boot screen is in 480i, then when the das loads it changes the resolution. all you should need to do is change the settings in XBMC
  3. I have done this quite a few times. I remove the heat sink that has the fan, and replace it with a heat sink from later revision Xboxes. Temps are about the same, but now they do not have a noisy fan consuming energy, just waiting to stop working. I recommend everyone with a v1.0 to replace them. I would not just remove the fan and use it though, the 1.1 heat sink does not cool enough without the fan. I have heat sinks if you want one, just pay shipping and its yours.
  4. These skins are for the Xenium mod chips. After a lot of searching I could not find out the proper folder structure, but I figured it out by trial and error. it goes: E / xeniumos / skins / (skin name) I could not get them to work on my v1.6 Xbox, For some reason the Xenium chip cannot find my hard drive. it does see my DVD drive, that is how I flashed the bios. I burned all my bios files to CD-R. I also get vertical ghosting in the Xenium OS. Other than that it seems to work fine. On my v1.1 Xbox everything works great, the chip sees my hard drive and the OS does not have the vertical ghosting. The skins are all working as well. I tried 2 Xenium chips on both the v1.1 and v1.6 Xboxes with the same results. I metered the LPC from the chip to the circuit board and they all have good connections. Anyone else have these issues with a Xenium mod chip on a v1.6 Xbox? Vertical ghosting in the XeniumOS, and the chip not seeing the hard drive?
  5. I bought them because the 2 out of 3 seem to work great. I'm sure one will go sooner or later. But most electronics will eventually die. There were a lot used by me so I saved a ton. There are china dealers that sell them for like $4.90
  6. This is the adapter I have used for my last 31 builds since 2016, purchase them from china. They have had a little crud on them but nothing like that. I keep up with most of the people I sold them to and all I know of are still working. 3 of my own Xboxes are used regularly and have had no issue. I have also used them for custom arcade cabinet builds and those 6 still work fine, and have very fast boot and load times. A lot of them have issues right from the start though, about 25% of the boards I bought did not work. I use a 200GB SATA hard drive for testing before connecting them to a good drive. None have ruined my test hard drive yet. It seems like if they work fine, they will keep working. but with only 3 years using one regularly I just don't know. If mine did not work I could not get them working. I removed the junk solder from the joints at the connectors, and reflowed 90% of the board to see if I could bring them back, but no go! All 5 I tried to revive stayed dead, although the boards now look pretty. I will be testing speed times for boot and game loads soon. I will compare this same board to a Sabrent.
  7. http://www.eurasia.nu/ they seem to have some updated emulators here, but you have to create an account which is simple..
  8. We can use a larger Hard drive as long as we make sure all of the partitions do not add up to more than the system recognizes. This includes the C, D, E, F, and G partitions. D being the info the unit sees on your DVD drive. If you use a USB flash drive with it you need to include the space you need it to see for that. I have partitioned a 3TB Seagate at 2.2TB and packed it with games with no problem. It read the games and the DVD but I never tested to see if it would be able to see a flash drive with all that. Normally I partition the drive so all of the partitions, flash drive, and DVD equal 2.0TB. I never run into problems with this configuration. This goes for any larger hard drive as far as my own testing, I am using a 4TB Seagate in one of mine. I would try to get a 3TB, but if the 4TB is cheaper it is fine. As a note, I have never tested to see what happens with partitions over 2.2TB. and have mostly used Seagate hard drives.
  9. What is it you want accomplished out of your new system?

the 7200rpm seem to work the same as the 5400rpm. I have used a wide variation of drives but have not exclusively made timing comparisons except CoinOps load times. they seem to boot about the same. The main diference I noticed is the 7200rpm builds more heat. I try to use the 5400 or 5900 rpm drives because they run much cooler. Of course this is my experience but I did make a lot of Xbox builds. I was building 2 a month for the last 2 years.
  11. I apologize for not testing. I have personal things that I need to focus on for a while'
  12. More awesome work N64, this is very impressive! I can also help with testing, and would pay for the board, I have dozens of working boards and can test on any version, except the v1.5 (illusive). I have enough soldering experience to make you proud.
  13. I second the poor commercial electronics soldering, seems like every time I open up equipment I find myself re-flowing everything. Of course the RoCH compliant solder does not help. I bought several rolls of the good solder just before they stopped selling it years ago. I just don't let my kids lick the circuit boards any more lol! I have been working on electronics since the VCR was the new thing out. Got into the Xbox as soon as we realized what we had in our hands, never moved onto other systems. I did install a 1Ghz into an Xbox years ago, or I should say that I bought the re-ball stencil kit and had my local shop do it, Rework stations were so0 expensive then. But every XBE had to be separately patched, it was a pain. I sold the board and moved onto the 128mb RAM upgrades. Successfully RAMMED 100's of boxes over the years. Used to eBay them, but I no longer sell anything. Kept 8 Xboxes that I will complete and keep as my collection. I have one of N64 Freak's 1Ghz 128mb motherboards and this guy does GREAT work. !!
  14. Great job! I will test this out tonight for sure
  15. the RAM upgrade in my experienced opinion, is the most beneficial mod on this machine. Benefits of upgrading the Ram (memory) from 64mb to 128mb: *Emulators (PS1, N64, MAME, GBA, SNES, NES, Genesis and any other) run smoother and run a lot of games the 64mb Xbox cannot. *Enables play-ability of some Sega Chihiro games. *XBMC, UnleashX and other dashboards run faster without lag. *Video player runs clean and extra RAM allows playback in HD. *Allows streaming videos via home network reliably. *Speeds the operation of the LINUX operating system.

    XEcter 3

your dashboard must have LCD support, I have always used XBMC. it does need to be enabled in XBMC options or only the backlight will illuminate.
