  1. Yes the metal cage is connected to the negative side of the board. As the Xbox has a 2 pin power connecter that can be connected either way around it's not grounded anyway the only items in most houses that are grounded are electric heaters, cookers/ovens, hot water heaters and that type of appliance or any small item that has a 3 pin plug at both ends like this. The chance of damaging the board from static would be extremely low so as the others have said don't worry. 2. Try using a DVD-r (I use Verbatim DVD-r) as DVD-rw is really a hit and miss with Xbox drive even when they where new. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  3. I would spend a little bit more and get this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B096JWV3HS/ref=sspa_dk_detail_4?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B096JWV3HS&pd_rd_w The iron looks a better one and uses the Hakko tip's, it also has a temperature display. The solder sucker (Desoldering pump)also is better Other items you should look for are 0.8mm 60/40 solder ( Not lead free), Flux paste Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  4. When you fitted the Xblast lite mod chip did you connect the D0 from the main board to the modchip or directly to ground. Can you upload some pic's on the main board and PSU Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  5. The only caps you need to worry about is the 5 near the heatsink/power connector. The red circles are the ones that need to be replaced. The clock cap on the one I tested is not grounded. I would not worry about changing the cap's in the PSU and if you touch the metal cage/shield before handling the main board that will discharge any static in your body. Unless you commonly get electric shocks around where you are working on the Xbox I would not worry about damaging the board from a static. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  6. All the caps that are circled in red and yellow have the negative lead connected to ground. The caps with the red circles need replacing and even if only 1 or 2 look bad change all of them. The caps with the black/grey arrows occasionally need replacing as well. Lastly the gold coloured cap in the purple star is the clock cap and if it shows any sign of bulging like the caps in red it also needs replacing. 7. If you include the SMD and ceramic caps I would say of the 100 plus 75% would be grounded. The main board is reasonably well protected from damage from a static discharge, If you are prone to getting a electric shocks from touching stuff in your house then I would recommend you touch a grounded device before you handle any PCB's. 8. The 2004A you have will work fine but you will need to trim some of the PCB to make it easier to fit. When I made mine I ended up using the smaller LCD as it was easier to fit and in my view look neater. Small LCD Full size LCD This is the front panel that I used to practice on. You don't use the small PCB supplied with the LCD and you use a Arduino Pro Micro Leonardo as the interface from the Open Xenium it the LCD. In the GitHub that Ryzee119 put together there is a link to a PCB maker that will make the blank board for you or you can connect it up with wires like I did by following this diagram from Ryan's GitHub. https://github.com/Ryzee119/spi2par2019 Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  9. Tries to Boot 3x then FRAG (Christmas Lights) Usually due to a failed or improperly installed modchip or the IDE cable being plugged in upside down somewhere. Check modchip wiring and IDE cables. If you did not do any soldering, it could be a bad PSU What happens if you boot with both drives disconnected? 12. I tested the X2-5035.67 and Ind 5004.67, Ind 5003.67 patched bios files and both Outrun 2 Beta and Ghost Squad load the start of the game Xbox specs: 128meg ram, internal wii2hdmi, 3tb HDD, Open Xenium, Version 1.4, xbmc4gamers dash. 13. You could try spraying some contact cleaner or even use isopropyl in the switches and work then back and forward a few times. Also check the soldering of the LPC rebuild. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  14. Short answer is NO a soft-mod / stock bios needs to see at least a working board from a DVD drive. If you reflash the onboard bios on a 1.0 - 1.4 or fit a mod chip on any version 1.0-1.6 then you can remove the DVD completely. 16. What dash is the Xbox running? Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  17. It should be fine, You can also try the Ind5004.67 or the Ind5003.67 patched as both have a option to use the extra ram in the config file. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

It sounds like it still has the stock hard drive and the mod chip was fitted purely to play backup's (copied disks) and they had good taste in music. I did quite a few like that in the early days because that cost of a HHD was out of reach for some teenagers or the did not what the parents to know the Xbox was modded. You could try burning the OGXbox installer to a DVD-rw but I have found that a lot of Xbox DVD drives will not read the DVD-rw disk's, I also tried making a CD boot disk but the only drive that would load it was a PC DVD drive and even it would load and then lockup at random times. I am guessing you plan on fitting a larger hard drive any so you could use FATXplorer beta to format the new HDD and install a dash to it, once it's done fit the new HDD and then the Xbox should boot from it. You will still need to reflash the modchip as the bios that's on the mod chip will probably not support a large HDD. But once the box is booting from a non Microsoft dash updating the mod chip will be easy. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  19. No Only a small number of apps use the extra ram anyway. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  20. I would try the faulty DVD drive and see it it boots past the error 11. If it does then swap the boards. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  21. Error Code 11 Problem: No DVD drive found. Cause/Solution: The Xbox cannot find the DVD drive. Similar to Error Code 10, this is usually from a loose/faulty cable. See solutions for Error Code 10. Note that many non-retail BIOS's can configured to skip using a DVD drive entirely. Error Code 10 Problem: DVD drive timeout. Cause/Solution: Similar to error codes 07 and 08, this is usually caused by a loose/faulty cable. The Xbox seems to know the DVD drive is present but it times-out waiting for the drive to become ready and respond to commands. Check the yellow cable running from the motherboard to the DVD drive. If all else fails, replace the DVD drive. Error Code 07 Problem: Hard drive timeout / HDD took too long to become ready. Cause/Solution: The Xbox seems to know the HDD is present but it times-out waiting for the drive to become ready and respond to commands. This is probably due to a loose connection or faulty wire. See the solution for Error Code 08. If you're using a SATA to IDE adapter, it's possible that the adapter you're using is not compatible with the drive you're using or isn't compatible with the Xbox at all. Try another SATA to IDE adapter / HDD combination. Some "green" drives are temperamental with certain SATA adapters. This error may also be caused if you have a SATA to IDE adapter and you are not using an 80 pin IDE cable (by default, they are 40 pin cables). Or, the console's DVD drive is bad preventing access to the hard drive via the IDE bus. Swap the DVD drive with one from a different Xbox. They are all interchangeable. Error Code 08 Problem: No hard drive found. Cause/Solution: The Xbox can't find the hard disk drive (HDD) while booting up. Try the following: If you are using a SATA to IDE adapter, you will need an 80 pin IDE cable. By default, it will be a 40 pin cable. Make sure the IDE ribbon cable (flat grey cable) is securely connected to the HDD, the DVD drive, and the motherboard itself. Check the IDE cable for signs of damage. If the cable looks like it has been scraped or has evidence of any damage then replace it. Check the HDD's power cable and make sure it's securely plugged in. If you can wiggle the HDD power cable around and make the Xbox work at certain times, then the leads coming from the power supply are loose and the power supply should be replaced. Take the HDD out and make sure the jumper is set correctly. There should be a diagram printed on the drive's label that shows how the jumper should be connected. Make sure its set to Cable Select (CS), Master, or isn't present at all. If the drive is set to Slave then you will run into issues! If all other cables are in fact securely connected and not damaged, you can try replacing the IDE cable anyway. It's possible that it is damaged in a way that isn't visible and IDE cables are cheap to come by. If all else fails, your hard drive is probably to blame and is faulty and needs to be replaced. Is it loading the Microsoft Dash board? Is it the same with Bank 1 and 2? What happens if you boot with the chip disabled? Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

What dash is the Xbox loading to? You will also need a cat5 or cat6 network cable. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

FTP is sending the files from you computer via a cat5 and you home network so no cd/dvd needed. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
