It does work with both chips. So far I’ve tried all available methods(protection on and off) within FlashBios with a couple of different bios. Im only allowed to boot from bank 2 so I do switch to bank 1 when trying to flash also. I’m having a hard time tracking down the two that are supposedly on the HDD already. Still digging through some very old downloads I’m finding. I will try to reflow the connections when I have some extra time. My most recent attempt seemed to be taking longer to respond so I had my hopes up. Nevertheless it failed with this error. Im assuming it says Unknown flash! Edit: That was when I tried Slayers again just to see.

No clue how to fix this. It’s only with this Xbox. This is probably the cleanest Xbox I have ever opened. The inside was immaculate with little to no dust at all. It was definitely a well maintained console or sat in a box for most of it’s life. The switches seem to work fine as the behavior of the Xbox changes with each switch so I don’t think that’s the issue here.

I’ve tried the bios listed on the HDD as well as M8, M8plus, x2 v1.0. I’m not sure if you’re suggesting the bios’ listed in your pic or not. The reply is informative, but a bit vague still. I’ve tried in both on/off protection with dip switch to be sure wiring isn’t backwards as well as testing the switches and each mode works as intended aside from not having a bios.

Just picked up a really clean console from Goodwill with a well installed xecuter 2.6. Unfortunately I can’t get anywhere with it. Stock dash will not load when chip is off. Throws an error 16. I’ve tried locked and unlocked. Neither get passed error screen. With the chip on and in bank 2, it will boot in flashbios 3.0.3, but will not accept a bios in any way. There are two that appear to be saved on the HDD also. Every way I’ve tried so far either fails or says “bios update found… Halting!” And then nothing. Chip protection is off during all of this also

Are the games on retail discs, burned discs, or downloaded files?

What was the original dash you were using?

I have indeed found many similar cables on Amazon, eBay, Ali express, and so on. They’ve all been around 150mm or longer. In this case I’m needing a 70mm and wasn’t quite sure the others I’ve found would compatible. Edit: It never hurts to ask. The one time I don’t, someone would have had a whole bin of these things lying around.

I don’t think I was suggesting Sega did. Even still, there would indeed be different Roms for each region. Those Roms would be labeled with the letters as I was saying above. We are still talking about the Xbox though and not ways of modding other retro consoles.

Not really. Different parts of the word have different restrictions and use different video/audio tech. Another reason each region had to have different Roms was censorship and (I’m not joking here) intelligence. In the early days Japan didn’t think the western market was smart enough or to put it nicely, had less attention span and games were changed from tiny details due to censorship to even entirely new games with the same name. Best example I can think of is Super Mario Bros 2. Western market got a completely different game in Doki Doki Panic. Which we got many years later renamed The Lost Levels

Dump the sports games, keep the silly ones. Those really start to add up if you count them all. Your current exclusion rules seem very fair to me.

yes there different Roms for each region with a lot of games. This is indicated by (U), (E), and (J) in the title of the Roms in question After a certain point in time, some manufacturers stopped spending money on region locking and just embraced the region free concept. Edit: If you’re speaking of a lockout chip, then yes the original NES has one that can easily be disabled be removing one leg of the chip.

I have no die what Daphne is, but if it's a game system requiring roms then you'll need to install an emulator before you can add any roms for Emustation to recognize.

Yes Kekule made the ones with the SMD LEDs. The kind in my picture are for one normal 3mm LED.

This I am aware of and have done it many times with all of the necessities. They’re old pc drives I want to wipe clean and use for Xbox repairs. Looking for an alternative power source to running a y-splitter from an Xbox to power said drives for hours as mentioned before. Edit: It’s really not a necessity at all. I just have a bunch of cables and AC adapters lying around so I thought I’d look into it.

I wasn't sure where to put this thread, but it is still Xbox related. I have a box full of IDE hdds that I'd like to sort through without having an Xbox run for hours to power them. I've been trying to find a guide or video tutorial on converting a 12V wall adapter or a usb device(if possible) to power the IDE drive. I e found one video that is pretty close to what I want and it suggests using a regulator and switch. I'm hoping for a simpler solution as I have a ton of old wall adapters lying around.

I have lots of these. I used 240ohm resistors last night with 3mm leds intended for 3V drop at 20mA. They were not very bright so I ordered 100ohm resisters as advised by the calculator at ledcalc.com I used 240ohm since I already had some. Am I wrong in that the 100ohm resisters will make the leds brighter?
