Booooo7
Have a tsopped OG Xbox with a barracuda 2Tb hdd, it works fine no problems but I decided that making a clone of the hdd would be a good idea in case the one installed failed. I tried using regular pc hdd cloning software but they don't recognize the drives, I tried using chimp but ran into a couple of problems with my xbox to hdmi adapter but eventually I got it working. Problem now is that it would take chimp to clone my hdd 3 days (doing bit by bit since they are both the same type of hdd) and I'm not sure if its a good idea to keep it on for that long. The hdd is almost full so it will be cloning almost the entire 2Tb, I have it in an enclosure in my entertainment center but its open in front and I've installed a rear fan in the cabinet to help with trapped hot air coming from the xbox. What do you guys think, leave it on for the 3 days or maybe there's a faster way that I don't know about, not a lot of info out there for this other than maybe something to do with fatxplorer but there isn't any cloning options I see in the program, I don't want to stop chimp unless I know there's a better way. sweetdarkdestiny
Create an image of your XBox HDD with HDD-Raw-Copy-Tool https://hddguru.com/software/HDD-Raw-Copy-Tool/ Copy the entire HDD using FatXplorer 3.0 (you can mount mutliple HDD's at the same time and copy the HDD partition by partition) Use a usb HDD copy station.

I'll look into that thanks. Can I just turn off the xbox while chimp is cloning? I don't see any "stop process" options on the screen. Also, my hdd has a lot of partitions, because I use the emustation and chihiro, will the options you mention be able to copy everything like the original, a clone? I don't now for sure but I would not interrupt Chimp. Yes it will clone the entire HDD in all of the options. The USB cloner will do a 1:1 clone as well as HDD-Raw-Copy-Tool. When using FatXplorer you can simply format your new HDD with it and copy each partition by hand. C+E is pretty fast but your F+G will take some time. How ever, you can copy strait from one XBox partition to another on a different HDD.
Booooo7
I opted for the HDD-Raw-Copy-Tool, it worked fine, everything works, thanks sweetdarkdestiny!!
futurepr0n
Not the OP but I am going to be looking to perform a clone/upgrade soon for hdd - Is the Xbox to USB adapter necessary? I read you can hot swap the dvd drive but I guess that sounds terrible doesn't it. Is this option simple as plugging both hdds into a PC and performing the clone? or will it always require an xbox

Is this option simple as plugging both hdds into a PC and performing the clone? or will it always require an xbox Xbox to USB Adapter for what? If you are installing a new SATA hard drive, you need an IDE-to-SATA adapter and a Molex Y-splitter so both hard drives can be powered by the Xbox. There are many ways to clone the hard drive. Using the Xbox or on a PC. Which software and hardware are required to do so is slighy different. if you have the eeprom.bin backup, you can unlock and lock the hard drives as needed on a PC. For a softmodded console, the hard drive has to be locked for the Xbox to boot. When using Chimp 261812 on the Xbox to clone the original to new hard drive, it requires hot-swapping the IDE connection from the DVD to new hard drive or hard drive/adapter combo if SATA after starting Chimp. The adapter must have a MASTER/SLAVE jumper set to SLAVE during the cloning operation then set back to MASTER when installed as the main hard drive. futurepr0n
Yes! thank you - I have the Startech adapter which has been suggested to be best compatible. In the Hard modded Xbox - I have the ability to FTP, but on the soft modded Xbox I am still trying to gain ftp access because the dashboard is Avalaunch and the default u/p was not working. I am going to need to see if i can get in through xbmc or something. Is a Softmodded Xbox HDD swappable at all then or no? What would be the best strategy or guide to perform a hdd swap in a soft mod box?
