Which AV cable are you using?

High-definition 480p, 720p and 1080i are only available when a high-definition capable cable or adapter is connected to the Xbox.

I use component to hdmi connection, and befor start any game I can use 720p but not when I start the game

it works on 720p, only when I start the game it turns to 480i

A LOT of games do not actually support any higher than 480p, some do but the list is not very long.

Take a look at this link..

https://en.everybodywiki.com/List_of_Xbox_games_with_alternate_display_modes

According to that link there is approx 50 that do 720p there are a lot of specifics listed for some of these the "support" it too. Some only have 720p in the menus and gameplay is 480p (SEGA GT Online does this), some are just upscaling 480p etc

Retail games don't use extra RAM.   You can hack some of them to run 720p but it usually makes them run too slow or you run into game breaking bugs as you play like a freeze or extreme slowdowns.

128MB is mostly useful for some homebrew and leaked unreleased games.  The XBox devkit had 128MB so the leaked unreleased games sometimes need 128MB.  There is a Half Life port that can use 128MB.  Some emulators like MAME might benefit but I'm not sure in what case they benefit.

Some games can be patched to run at 720p and also to use the extra ram if its available.

@hussen Check out this link fopr a bunch of patches for games to run at 720p.

https://www.jayxbox.com/retail-game-modification/all-xbox-patches/720p-patches

Not all of them will work, I have been going through and testing them recently but have only got as far a "C" so far. I can say that a few games are running great at 720p with no issues. A lot have issues with the HUD being off and menus/loading screens and cutscenes being 480p still and only displaying in the top left corner of the screen, but the gameplay is fine if you can look past those issues. Some may be fixed with further investigation.

Yeah I have tried a bunch of those patches. There is a thread on emuxtras full of patches too. Maybe the same patches.  And there is a patcher program that they probably used to make most of them.

Here's a Google Sheet that I have bookmarked from years back

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1HpxKGQ6wVTRevUdQ6_4rkuyF_ZugOgc2C4tXnZxBZCk/edit?gid=0#gid=0

One problem example is Call of Cthulhu.  For the first hour it seems to run well enough but eventually you get to an area that runs unplayably slow at 720p. Maybe 5-10 fps.  I'm not sure if anyone ever substantially plays these games in a patched state. :)

JMP files are used here

https://www.jayxbox.com/retail-game-modification/jays-magic-patcher

IPS files can be applied with Lunar IPS app (attached below) or online

https://www.marcrobledo.com/RomPatcher.js/

With both of these solutions you will need to provide the original default.xbe from the game you are patching.
