About Me

  1. I am really glad I found this forum website. Last year when I started modding most of the content I found online was so outdated. Somehow I missed this website. Are unopened and unmodded XBOXs becoming more and more rare? Well, I suppose I know the obvious answer to that question - yes. My real question is to the professional collectors. What is your opinion on breaking of the stickers on and opening up suspected rare XBOXs? Do you do it when you get one to inspect for dust and corrosion or is it more important to a collector to keep the stickers intact? Aside from obviously rare limited edition XBOXs what version(s) 1.0-1.6b are the most rare? One would think 1.0 XBOXs are the most valued and desirable. Are 1.0 XBOXs desirable to collectors? Are certain versions 1.0-1.6b becoming more desirable or rare than others?
  2. i got one of those xedusa hdmi adapters for my xboxs today. the picture is the best i have ever seen on my 1.6 but, the wavy lines are horrible on my 1.4. i'm strongly considering removing the hard mod and hdd from my 1.4 and modding another xbox. the 1.6 has the issues with displaying some games in 480p and the 1.4 has the wavy line issue that no one seems to really be able to figure out and fix. so, between the 1.0-1.3, which is the best xbox to mod? i'm looking for the most relaible and the best video/audio quality.
  3. i have a 1.1v and i am having issues with faint wavy lines on the screen that i am trying to make perfect so it will be my main xbox.. also have some 1.0v's that are doing it but to a lesser degree. i really don't want to do a full board recap, especially don't want to have to replace those smds, so i want to find which specific caps that filter the video signal. i have already replaced several caps and messed up one of them that caused a dead short(has been repaired). so i really don't want to just do all the caps. plus, those 1.1v boards have a lot of them. i'd really like to just focus on the problem caps. and yes, i have given a visual inspection and replace the 5 in front of the processors with poly caps.
  4. this is a 1.1v board. i replaced some caps on the mobo and the psu and it was working pretty well but, still showing some intereference in the video signal. so, i replaced some more caps on the mobo and psu to try and clean things up a little more. now, when i hit the power button, it power cycles twice and then frags on the 3rd cycle. i'm really not sure what i did wrong. i do not see any shorts ot burned traces. could some of u look at these pics and help me please? i wanted the pics to be very high definition so that u could really zoom in and look at them but that made the file sizes too big for here so, i uploaded them to imgur. here is the link https://imgur.com/a/f7zlPLT. those silver caps are all nichicon 1500uf 16v(or maybe 25v) poly caps. i have also tried the psu on another xbox and it seems to work fine. so it appears that i did screw something on the mobo up.

  6. So, a couple of weeks ago I got my hands on an og xbox. I didn't know anything about the console itself and the og xboxes in general. I've had experience with different consoles, as well as modding them. I got the xbox for about 10 dollars, and it has an upgraded IDE drive which is 80GB and is loaded with heck ton of games and emulators. The modchip installed is aladin, I researched about it and I think I can only use the EvoX dashboard with it, correct me if I am wrong. Initially it had games on the F drive but the EvoX displayed only some programs located in the E drive. I installed unleashX opened it through the EvoX launch menu and it displayed the games in the F drive, but when I tried to play them they were stuck on a black screen not loading. However I managed to resolve the issue, changing the configuration file of the EvoX to display the F drive directory also and now everything launches. A guy on reddit told me that my board is V1.4 and also I removed the infamous clock capacitor. There is an option in EvoX which lets me boot to the original MS dashboard, but it gives me an error code. Someone told me that I had to put my original dashboard files in the C drive, but I don't want to tinker with it before asking here so I don't f*ck something up. I've attached a couple of pictures so you can get an idea what I have on my HDD. I would really appreciate some tips, I would really like to also install the MS dashboard, and possibly switching from EvoX to a more modern dashbord but I am not aware if this is possible with my current mod chip. NOTE: In the picture of the console opened the clock capacitor is still there, I removed it after the picture was taken!
  7. Hi, I have a revision 1.0 Xbox that I originally softmodded. It is now hardmodded and I would like to flash the original 4034 stock bios back onto the TSOP. I was going to use the method in this post: But I got confused when I saw this warning in the manual (attached). I tried the method suggested in the warning first, and was not successful. Am I good to use the TSOP flasher when my console is already softmodded and hardmodded? To restore the TSOP to stock bios?
  8. Project Gotham Racing is by far one of the best racing games on the original Xbox, at least in my opinion. I was recently talking to someone on YouTube, and the idea came to mind of how the game could be reverse engineered to make it playable on PC natively. As some of you may know, PGR 1 still has several rendering issues on emulators to this day, especially on CXBX Reloaded (with several serious texture and sound bugs) and Xemu (where the game runs but there are several Z-order issues [which generally cause problems with structures becoming invisible from certain angles, making us see things we shouldn't] and the game tends to suffer from abysmal power and sound issues where cars sound louder than usual) which are the main emulators for the original Xbox. And although backwards compatibility exists, it (Project Gotham Racing) is non-existent on latest-generation Xbox consoles (Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S), and on Xbox 360 it tends to suffer from the same performance issues and FPS drops. This would be one of the main reasons why it would be interesting for me to reverse engineer the first PGR in order to port it to PC and make it natively playable on that platform. The second reason for my interest in reverse engineering the game, is the lack of interest I see in PGR games prior to PGR 2 or PGR 3. Because when talking about the franchise, often times the first Project Gotham Racing, and sometimes its spiritual predecessor, Metropolis Street Racer on the Dreamcast, are never mentioned or are not of interest to many people. So my reasons are: - Lack of interest in general for the first Project Gotham Racing game - Being backed by terrible performance and functionality on emulators and backwards compatibility Now, to that people: I'm not at all, in any way, shape or form, asking for a native PC port of the game or anything like that, I'm simply making this post to get your thoughts on a native PC port of the first PGR, and also learn a bit more about original Xbox game reverse engineering.
  9. Hi there everyone so anyways I just upgraded my Xbox HDD from 8GB to 1TB last year. But here is the thing, what should I do about it now? Should i hook it up and play with it in the new year? + Should I get a xarcade tank stick for my original Xbox? (Just wondering)
  10. Hello everyone! This is my first post, so apologies if it’s formatted incorrectly. I’m currently having a tough time trying to diagnose what could be causing my Xbox to output a wobbly video signal as seen here. I’ve tried -swapping power supplies -replacing the 5 caps near the cpu -giving the board and console a deep clean I’m thinking maybe it’s a grounding issue? Or perhaps the video encoding chip is about to die? Honestly I’m at a loss. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thank you guys.
  11. New user here, so my apologies if I've posted this in the wrong sub-forum. What is the best utility boot disk for an (modded) original XBox, please? So that if your Xbox won't boot because of a problem with the hard drive, then you can download and burn a disc image containing things like an XBox file manager, a utility to lock/unlock the hard drive, (re)-install a specfic dashboard (such as Evo-X), etc. Then put this disk in your XBox, boot up, and you then get access to the utilities so you can fix the problem just using the botable utilities disc. I vaguely remember Slayers and Hexen, but not enough to decide which to use now, plus there might be better or more useful such utility discs nowadays. So what would anyone recommend please? Also, another question, if you'll allow me. Say you have a working original XBox, and it boots up from hard drive properly, to a working dashboard, and you can then load your games and emulator from hard drive. Basically, everything is working fine. But you want to try a different dashboard, then if you were to copy everything from the XBox's partition to a temporary folder on the, say, F: drive, such as: F:\XBMC_bootup_C_partition then if you installed a different dashboard, tried it, and didn;t like it, and wanted to go back to the original, XBMC dashboard, then if you just deleted everything from the partition, and copied every file back from the 'F:\XBMC_bootup_C_partition' folder back into the partition then would the XBox be returned to it's former boot-up state, and everything would work properly, as before? Thanks for any answers.
  12. On the XBox, some commercial games could run third party fan-made mods (provided the XBox was modded), which was amazing. I remember games such as Morrowind, the Grand Theft Auto games, Star Was Battlefront 2, etc, supporting this. The big limitation was memory, of course, as the XBox only had 64 MB of RAM (which was also used for video RAM), but I have had my XBox upgraded to 128 MB, so I was wondering in anyone had released a patch for any of these games to allow the game to access more than 64 MB of RAM, and so allow more mods to be used with applicable games. Also, or course, fan-ported games such as Duke Nukem 3D (using 'XDuke'), Shadow Warrior (using 'ShadowX), Doom 1 and 2 (using 'Doom-X'), and I think ports of Quake 1 and 2, etc (I don't like the Quake games, so I can't speak from experience), can use third party mods, and with these ports being written specifically for the XBox, then they would see more likely to maybe receive 128 MB support upgrades. Have any of these ports been upgraded, to allow for the support of more demanding mods.
  13. The silicone wire is rated for 200 C and the Kynar is rated for 105 C. What is best for soldering traces, modchip lpc etc... What is your experience when using one or the other?
  14. Did find this mod in a dead Xbox v1.6. Have no clue what version or what card this is Anyone seen these?
  15. Hi, i have a Xbox 1.6 and i want to add some fans, 1 for the back, 1 for the CPU and 1 for the GPU. Can i just use a 3-way splitter? or will this draw to many (milli)amps. I know some pc motherboard will allow up to 1amp but others only 0.5. If it is to much i can always solder a extra 12v + ground cable from the psu directly and a extra signal wire from the fan header for fan control. That should also work. Pleas let me know, thanks
  16. anyone know what this once was? There is nothing connected inside.
  17. Not the XBOX logo font, but the one used for "NOT FOR RESALE", "Version 2.5" etc... Anyone out there know which font it is? Thanks in advance to any of you legends out there that come up with the correct answer
  18. Hi! I've had this xbox since childhood, my dad bought it modded 20 years ago and he then upgraded the hdd and dvd drive. Now i have no idea on what modchip this is, i'd like to start fresh with this xbox, remove all the ancient media player stuff my dad put on it, and just play games. If someone knows what this is i'd really appreciate it. My idea was to remove this modchip and softmod it, upgrade the bios, and the hdd. The issue is that I dont know if it's possible to just remove this thing. Will it still boot? Even with the custom hdd? If possible i'd also consider keeping it, if i can upgrade bios and hdd. I'll follow the easiest route. Thank you in advance, all the help is appreciated! Othern images l: https://postimg.cc/gallery/GGqWxLR
  19. Loose cable from modchip, where should it be?
  20. So out of curiosity I just downloaded the "Origins" 2Tb build, mainly to see what all the fuss was about and why people seemed to like it so much. But also I thought I'd see if I could maybe make use of the actual dash files and make a more reliable build using it. However, I just wrote the image to a hdd and so far have been checking it out on my PC with FatXplorer and tbh it is an absolute mess. Duplicated folders, little to no sense in the hdd organisation, random music albums (Papa Roach among others) and even a random movie (Central Intelligence) are just the start of the chaos. No wonder it has such a bad rep. I will try and make some sense of things dash wise (how it actually all fits together and works) as I do think there is some potential to MAYBE make a semi decent build from it. Maybe I'll call it Phoenix Origins No promises tho as tbh it is pretty much a bonfire of files all over the place, HeXen installer disc remains, files for a softmod along with configs for x2, IND and other hardmod stuff form years ago. Also anyone out there that has worked with the barebones origins XMBC skin please feel free to chime in with any hints/tips/anything regarding how to get the most out of the skin. It will be useful and appreciated EDIT- I am aware of the history of the build and how it was leaked before it was finished etc but in reality it seems miles away from being finished as it really is an "Absolute Casserole" of folders and junk un-needed files.
  21. Don't think it was ever used. The drive/card packaging was never opened, don't think the DVD's have ever been taken out of their cases. Did plug it in and it fires up, but haven't done anything else with it. I also have an old modded XBox that has been sitting in a closet for many years, recently pulled it out to play with my kids and we started reading online about replacing the cap's in them. It still works but we'll do that soon, but then I remembered we have this thing just sitting in a box. What would you do? Sell it and let a buyer open it up and fix...open it up ourselves ASAP before those cap's kill it...do nothing? Only thing I don't think we'll do is send it back to Microsoft
  22. I was given an xbox without a hard drive, when I turn it on, this screen appears. I'll buy hard drive. What else do I need to do to get it working again?
  23. So peeps, The metal RF sheilding in your xbox's, do you keep yours, throw it, paint it or something else?? I used to throw mine away if they were rusty but just recently I have painted a couple and I am pleasantly surprised with the results. Here one where I used a Canary Yellow... Will be adding a yellow ring of light to this one and swapping out the power leds for yellow too. This box currently has red leds in the control ports too. Might change those to yellow too....
  24. i have an original Xbox TSOP MODDED with xbox media center for gamers as well as an lcd temperature display installed any idea what temps i should be seeing while i game?
  25. Hi, I have a 1.4 revision Xbox which is modchipped with a generic Aladdin XT Plus2, it was modified many years back and was working normally when put away, Now when I turn it on, I get 1 green flash followed by red flashing of the LED. It does not matter the modchip I use which are all Aladdins, and have been proven tested/working in other consoles. The power LED initially flashes green once and then red. No video/audio on TV. I should add, it is only the left half of the LED that is flashing. I suspected it was due to the trace rot repair, but reversing this did not help. It was working normally when put away. The console powers up without even the front panel buttons connected. No solder splashes that I can see. Attempting to reverse the mod entirely (removing D0 point grounding and chip) I get FRAG.
