About Me

  1. I got original xbox with intentions to only use working dvd drive to swap for parts but up found the existing hdd looked damaged as original owner said xbox was making arching noises. I figured to see if I can get the xbox going again. The machine powers on and shuts off at 1:15(s) that is with a working hdd. I swapped the power supply from a working machine and same thing. The dvd drive does work on a working machine. I relocked the hdd from another machine to this one the hdd was softmodded didn't work. I then reformatted with stock C and E files relocked hdd didn't work. The original xbox powers on automatically when plugged in. The original xbox has a Xecuter 2.6 mod chip. I ran the setup without modchip installed, with modchip turned off and with modchip on - no improvements. Any suggestions as what to do next? What to test for? When on stock dashboard I could not load a disc properly. When on softmod dashboard disc would not load properly. Not sure if there is a ide cable issue? Not sure if the hdd is setup correctly for given bios? Not sure if bios is corrupt. Dvd drive - works Power Supply - works Replaced Hdd Motherboard ? Modchip ?
  2. Motherboard fragged so I bought a version 1.1 replacement with paired hard drive. Board boots. Plays games, etc. Removed leaky clock cap, cleaned board. Soft modded system with Rocky 5. Attempted TSOP, but the files wouldn’t copy. Worked fine with cables soldered in place, but started getting an error on boot. Removed TSOP wires, boots normally. Eventually get Chimp installed and working with composite cables. Won’t boot into the modern interface even though I’m using the latest release. It’s some antiquated version. After some frustration, I figure it out. Chimp reads both drives correctly, both stock and 240GB SSD via a Startech IDE to SATA Adapter verified working with my original 1.0 motherboard. Do a quick clone, clone C and E only, lock to motherboard. Set jumper to master. Will not boot with the new drive, black screen after Xbox logo. Start the procedure over, this time Chimp decides to do a slow clone. Completes overnight, lock drive to motherboard. Shut down system. Come back hours later. Error 7 on boot. Xbox logo, no Microsoft logo, then error screen. Reset all IDE and power connections multiple times, same issue. Examine ports annd connectors for debree. Order a new 80 pin IDE cable, same exact issue. Try booting with SSD, Xbox logo, Microsoft logo, then black screen. Try booting with safe mode, get an error 9 with the SSD, but only once or twice. Reseat all connectors, no difference. Have the EEPROM and HD key so I’m able to mount and browse the cloned SSD on PC with FatXplorer. Appreciate any help here, this is driving me nuts.
  3. I have hard modded xbox with aladin chip is there a guide to installing new dashboard to xbox
  4. Hi guys, i have an openxenium with latest OS and cerbios 2.3.0 mounted on a 1.6 xbox and it works fine. When i place the modchip into my 1.4 xbox it won't boot (it frags). D0 is connected to the correct point on the motherboard. I believe cerbios 2.3.0 is an all xbox version ?. Should i flash a 1.4 bios into it with the launch menu ?. I also have a duo x modchip and That one boots fine.(on the 1.4 board) I am puzzled ,can it be a poor connection on one off the lpc header pins ? Somebody can give me advice ? Thanks.
  5. Hey all. I was given this xbox. I opened it and found this chip inside The xbox had leaking capacitors everywhere and I had to perform trace repairs. When all was done I got it to boot. Right now I pulled the chip. Should I re-install it or is there something better I should get? I know this is an old mod because there is a switch in the back of the xbox I guess for shutting the chip off/on. Right now the mobo and PSU are lying on my bench with every cap removed awaiting new ones. When it comes to xbox modchips I know very little.
  6. I have an Xbox HD+ that I haven't installed yet. I am on the fence. Would the Xbox look better with a Retrotink 5x? I know that I can only have one on this Xbox which would be better? I have other consoles that I would use the Retrotink 5x for also.
  7. I bougth broken og xbox 1.6 for repairs when i try boot xbox he blinks green lights three times and then flashing red/green .i open up and see that xbox was modded with super aladin modchip live when i delsoder wires from modchip xbox boot up with error code 05 so i redo soldering on xbox and i saw that there was not cut trace u7c1 so i cut and xbox begins again fraging here picture of soldering lpc and modchip what do next did i need buy new modchip swap or console is not fixable https://ibb.co/JsmkYR2 https://ibb.co/yFBtCPR https://ibb.co/pdxkJRN
  8. I softmodded and then tsopped my original xbox. Before doing this I made a custom component cable which worked great with all my games and the stock dashboard. In one of the menu's during the softmod process the screen went crazy (kind of looks like a sink issue, the screen is squashed and scrolling across rapidly, impossible to tell what is on screen). I plugged in the composite cable and finished up the process and then TSOP'ed it. Now when I boot with the component cable the bios flubber animation works perfectly but the screen goes nuts when I get to unleasheX despite changing the video settings to NTSC-M, no to 480p-720p-1080i- enable pal, no to faster refresh rate. what could be causing this? EDIT: SOLUTION FOUND because the xbox restarts when video cable is reconnected I had to write down the button presses required to get to ms dashboard while using composite, then swith to component, follow the button presses, stock dashboard worked, go into settings and disable all high resolutions, and then restart. everythings fine now and I hope this helps others with the same issue
  9. There is a "homebrew" outrun arcade game, but its ripped from shenmue 2 files, ugly looking ferrari-like car, and audio tracks are in .WAV format. Found that 2005 outrunX exist, but cant find to download, question is this a proper port, or just the same version from shenmue 2? Cannonball source port for arcade version does exist, but not yet compiled for xbox. I guess source port needs to be rewritten for xbox compiler to work, watched MVG video about compiling xbox games, SAD. There are loads of source ports that would be happy to run on xbox. Some of them actually reached xbox, like openlara.
  10. Hello!I am trying to softmod my original xbox.I tried to do it using this clip:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbSb7BFRQNo I did everything in the video correctly. So the problem is:I dont have ide ports on my motherboard so i tried using ide to sata adapter and when i plug it in my pc and turn it on,it shows in disk management as not initalized, but when i tried to use xplorer 360 it says could not find fatx drive.I tried with 2 hot swap techincs, setting compatibility to win xp sp3,running it as administrator, tried different programs. But nothing works.I dont have xbox friendly usb drive and i also dont have any game that has save game exploits.Sorry for bad english.
  11. Hello, my name is Kris and I wrote the Xbox repair guide 2.1 around 17 years ago. I have thought about updating it (my grammar was atrocious!) and wanted to get feedback from OG Xbox fans. On top of the grammar, I wanted to reshoot the videos and pictures to today's standards. I also saw the suggestion for a PDF version, so that's gonna go on the list. Any other suggestions? There's a lot I have missed since getting out of gaming so any help would be appreciated.
  12. This is my second mod and I cannot for the life of me understand why the mod isn't working. Perhaps another modder would be able to help me out? The Xbox already had a softmod and boots up in UnleashX After the mod, the boot animation is showing the EvoX logo. Updating the bios is no problem, installed updated EvoX M8 plus bios Trying to boot from a Hexen, OG xbox install disc or Slayer's disc is not working. OG xbox installer DOES work in the softmod Trying another hdd gives an error 13 (160gb and 250gb ide, and sata 500gb drive with green adapter) I tought the problem could be a problem with a solder joint or a short as a result of my soldering error. Went over them with multimeter, does not seem to be the case. I'm at a loss right now trying to figure out what the problem is..
  13. i have some time today to clean my xbox then i noticed something missing inside the controller daughterboard… browsing on ifixit took it a comparison.. is it the reason why my 2 controllers not working?? Thanks in advance

    Xbox repairs.

Greetings! I am in possession of an original Xbox from the late 90s to early 2000s and I require some assistance before proceeding with its disassembly. I attempted to turn on the console by pressing the power button, but to my disappointment, the light failed to turn on. Moreover, the fan only turned on briefly and shut off immediately after releasing the button. This issue persisted even after multiple attempts, and eventually, the console stopped responding altogether. I tried holding and pressing the power button but to no avail. Could you please help me identify and troubleshoot this problem? Alternatively, any guidance on the repair process would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
  17. Hello, Some help would be really appreciated. I really don't understand why it occurs. But it's the second PAL OG XBOX 1.6 that "dies" after doing the modchip : Open Xenium with LPC Rebuild. I have successfully followed this tutorial (and the solder joints look good): - 1st one working fine during a week after Xenium mod chip LPC Rebuild + Version 2.3.5 Make MHZ then sudden black screen and after Flashing Red and Light - 2nd one working fine after Xenium mod chip LPC Rebuild + Version 2.3.5 Make MHZ: Then died after one hour same symptom Flashing Red and Green. Is there a way to fix this Red and Green issue? Tried different power supplies did not make a change. Seems to be an issue for the motherboard?
  18. Hi, someone with a OriginalXBOX MODDED could send me the "FIRST CHECKPOINT SAVE GAME" of the game "RENT-A-HERO ENGLISH VERSION"? The important think the game is ENGLISH VERSION (and NO JP VERSION) and the save is on FIRST CHECKPONT (when you in game put the creamcast on tv and do the first save, after the prologue). I really hope someone give me the saves i need. THANKS.
  19. Hi everyone! After much hesitation I decided to replace the capacitors in my Xbox 1.6 ... well it didn't go as expected. The 3300uf caps were a pain to desolder for an unknown reason and I lifted 4 pads in total (the positive of C1F2, both pads of C1G10 and the positive of C6G3). So, initially I didn't know that I made such a disaster and the console FRAGged with alterating green/red light after attempting to booth two times with green light and also no video. Troubleshooting I noticed that the dvd drive didn't want to open unless I unplugged it from the IDE cable and that no error was showing even with only the motherboard and psu connected. As adviced by some kind guy on Reddit I checked the joints of the 3300uf caps and I discovered what I did with the pads. The same guy said that in order to repair the traces I had to connect the positives of C1F2 and C1G10 toghether an then to one of the legs of the coil above (L2F1); the negative of C1G10 to ground an finally the positive of C6G3 to the positive of the cap next to it (C6G2). Done all that the Xbox doesn't boot anymore. When pushing the power button there is a soft buzzing noise. So I decided to check the voltage of the 220-240V Delta PSU. I found that the voltage doubled: orange is 10.3V, red 10.3V and yellow 0.5 in stand by and 24.8V when pressing the on button. I also tested the transistor next the clock cap and it says 6.3 V. What can I do? Please help me, I don't want to lose my cherished xbox. Thank you in advance!
  20. I have a v1.4 that doesn't seem to be getting power at all, zero response from power/eject so I've tried a bunch of stuff: - Replaced 3x 3300uF 6.3V, 3x 1500uF 6.3V, and 2x 3300uF 10V caps, all the big ones - Checked continuity on those 4 lines that usually get rotted, 3 were good, rebuilt 1 and confirmed continuity with the top of the board - Reflowed the 20 pin ATX header - Tested with 2 known good PSUs - Tested with 2 known good front panel PCBs I haven't seen this behavior (or lack of) before and had it not be bad caps, but if there's something to be tried short of an entire recap, I'm unaware of what that would be. Anyone have any ideas?
  21. Hello everyone, this is my first post in this forum and glad to join this group. I got one OG XBOX and had DVD issue, need someone to help me how to fixed. The problem is when I press XBOX console DVD eject button, the tray will open and eject DVD disc, but when I press again. (make DVD to read), the tray will open again and eject DVD disc, that means this console can not read disc, DVD drive is keep eject. I followed youtube clip to tear-down DVD drive and try to maintain & clean all parts, eventually, I found the root cause, when DVD drive tray insert, DVD tray is no lift to correct location, so drive is no detect. But I ready clean all parts, this issue can not be solve. How to repair or need to check other parts? thanks a lot
  22. Hi everyone! I come to you with the following problem. I have an XBOX 1.1 in which no controller port works. The console is unmodified and has not been opened before. I took it apart to replace the clock capacitor. Before the replacement, the ports did not work either. There is a picture and sound. XBOX asks to set the time but it is impossible. I have two controllers. One original and one non-original. The non-original one I tested on a PC and it worked there, the other one I haven't tested yet. The other controllers I do not have. I checked the motherboard looking for broken paths, but I did not find such, however, I will check again. There is corrosion around the clock capacitor. Especially at the components R7G1, R7G2, R7G3 and Q7G1. It seems to me that the corrosion is only superficial, but I would prefer to replace these components. I found information that R7G2 has a value of 1.1 kOhm (SMD code 112) unfortunately I could not find anything about R7G1 and R7G3. Q7G1 is npn transistor - MMBT3904LT1. The question is whether these components are related to non-functioning controllers //edit I forgot to write, there is a voltage of 4.95V on the power pins, in the controller ports
  23. This is going to start out as just being copied directly over from my thread on BitBuilt about the project. https://bitbuilt.net/forums/index.php?threads/xboxpsu.3387/ The xbox has some mildly odd power requirements. It uses the same 20 pin Molex MiniFit Jr connector that an ATX PSU output, however the pinout is completely different. As it stands, the typical solution is to use a PicoPSU, a small ATX PSU, a modify it to work with the original xbox. PicoPSUs can be had for around $15, the power supplies for them can be had for around $10. It's a very inexpensive solution. Traditionally when this is done, the Power OK and Power On lines are ignored, the PSU is set to always on, and the wires are run all catywumpus to get to where they need to go. While this solution works, it's definitely a hack, and I believe we can do better. So what are the xbox's actual power requirements? While I haven't actually cut up a power supply and tried to get the xbox to full load while measuring the current draw, I have a V1.1 PSU here that handily has the power requirements right on the label. Max Output Power: 96W DC Output: +5V -- 13.2A +3.3V -- 4.8A +12V --1.2A +3VSB -- 0.045A I hope it's safe to assume that further revisions of the xbox had similar or lower power draw. Regardless, this seems like a good starting point. So, how do I plan to accomplish this? With 4x LM2678 Regulators from Texas Instruments. http://www.ti.com/product/LM2678 Why 4 regulators for 3 voltages? The LM2678 is a 5A regulator. I need 13.2A on the 5V line. Having looked at the specs for the PicoPSUs that seem to work just fine, they're rated for 8A on the 5V line. This leads me to believe that 10A should suffice, so I'll need two regulators for 5V. I'll also need a 12V regulator, as I plan to run this off of an easily obtainable laptop power supply rather than needing to source an 8A 12V supply. I will also be designing a smaller footprint alternative that runs off of 12v for when space is of the highest concern. I'll likely also break down the xbox's power requirements even further at some point to see if I can't design a PSU that allows for aggressive trimming, but that's much further down the road. -------------------------------------------- I've designed the first iteration of the 24v board, it's 60*32mm. Now that it's done, I don't like it for a variety of reasons. I'm going to try again, putting the low profile components on the backside of the board and the tall components on the topside of it. Maybe I'll be able to squish it down a bit more in the process. -------------------------------------------- There, that's a little better. 27.5*49.25 mm -------------------------------------------- Oh, hey, I worked on this a bit. I ditched the 12v regulator and changed it to 12v in. I also had to source different inductors, which are sadly larger, so the whole board got a couple of mm wider in the process. 26.5mm*57.2mm I think I'm gonna actually order this one, and see if it works. -------------------------------------------- I've since looked at the most recent revision and noticed a couple of flaws in it. I've repaired those flaws, and I'm gonna sleep on it again, look at it with fresh eyes tomorrow, and probably order it.
  24. hey everyone thanks to a bunch of people in discord, i managed to wire a wii2hdmi adapter to the xbox for hdmi and audio, works great and there is a difference between it and composite, i dont have a good way to screenshot it, i tried doing a live stream on twitch but was having connection problems so it does not look to good, however if you want you can check the videos here https://www.twitch.tv/ironsniper1/videos and here is the diagrams, the one with the top of the xbox av port is if you completely desoldered the av port and are replacing the av port with the adapter and the bottom is if you are leaving the av port and just soldering in some wires to the port and adapter
  25. Hello everyone, I am reaching out to the community for some help. Long story I had a working HDMI mod with Open xenium on an Xbox. I wanted to try the ram upgrade. I had the Hynix ram stock, tried to replace them with Samsung, ram error and could not get that board to work again. I used a working spare board from my stock Xbox and just brought the open xenium and Makemhz HDMI over. I rebuilt the LPC using Amtech flux and my hakko soldering iron with my Kester ledded solder. I get great joints with these in combination and using an amscope for seeing what I'm doing. A mistake I think I made because it's been awhile, I removed the AV port and did both the LPC rebuild for the open xenium and HDMI board at the same time. Like I said it's been awhile and I may just need to patch the bios right? Problem is I am getting solid green on the chip and HDMI board (btw I used a new flex cable and use precision micro soldering pen to get those joins solid. I tested with a multimeter getting continuity and 33 ohms across each. No bridging or issues I can see under the scope with the ribbon cable, connector or the packages. I rebuilt the lpc again and still persists. One issue I should be honest and mention is the pin I took out for the lpc pins second one on the back left (was on some install guides to remove the pin). The hole pan was burnt off. Completely my mistake had the iron temp set way too high for another project. The trace going from that to a via on the front side of the board had been disconnected. That via goes to the back of the board but then it goes to the lpc where the pin is missing anyways. Basically I don't know if this is the issue. I am not getting a short that I can tell. Do I need to reflash my open xenium since it was working and setup on the old Xbox or is the issue that disconnected trace from the burnt out hole to the via, or is it something else potentially, can I test something with my multimeter? Do I just need to somehow patch the bios. Idk how now with the old av port missing. Audio works when I disconnect the open xenium but no video. I tried my testbench HDMI monitor. I tested my crt with an adapter that adjusts an HDMI signal to be adapted to composite. I tested on my TV upstairs and computer monitor with three good known working HDMI cables. I get no video when xenium is plugged in. I get no frag and can't see anything under the scope or infrared camera for chips going bad like the encoder. I've attached a short video showing the status of the lights. Any help is appreciated, thank you. https://youtu.be/Q00fV6C5C7c
