  1. Well here goes I have an OG Xbox with a 1.6 board I was replacing the 5 CPU capacitors the 3300 6.3 volt and I may have done something very stupid I believe there's a possibility on two of the capacitors on the positive side I damaged a couple of via I was having a hard time to clean the holes out because of the large ground plane I don't really have the proper equipment now I see that so I did something very stupid and I used a small drill bit twisted in my fingers I may have ripped a couple of the through-hole via's and I'm wondering after I replace those capacitors does anybody have a reference point of where those positive legs should make continuity on the board so I can test to be sure that I didn't ruin this or have any link or reference information any help would be highly appreciated It's my sons console Yes I'm a moron I have not done this stuff in over 25 years I may or may not remember making this mistake before.... I can take it...
  2. i have replaced caps on probably 8 xboxs. i have video issues with many of them and i'm wondering if replacing all of the caps is really needed? i usually replace the ones in front of the cpu/gpu and any others that look damaged. i ordered a 1.1v xbox that i am planning to mod and hopefully use it as my main xbox. i want it to look and sound the best possible.
  3. the 1.0v is generally thought to have the best video output. i've never heard a definite reason why the 1.4v usually has video issues(often in the form of wavy lines). i have read were some speculate that this is because microsoft lowered the power of the video signal on the 1.4. so, since the 1.0 has 5 caps in front of the cpu/gpu instead of 3, i wonder if adding the extra 2 caps to the 1.4v might give it a little extra power and help the video signal any? has anyone ever tried it? is there any danger to the xbox if the extra 2 caps are added?
  4. i.4v hard modded xbox. i have an hdmi adapter for it. i'm having problems with seeing wavey lines go accross the screen during darker scenes. i've seen this issue before with other xboxs and various video connectors. is there a specific cap on the board that is known to cause this issue? i replaced several of them but not all of them when i modded the system.
  5. The more I check my Xboxes the more I find. Today I popped another open, it's been working perfectly but had some caps gone, different ones to I have been finding though, they're the more solid type caps. The guy I had do my modchips two decades ago seemed to like sticking on heat sinks, maybe to make his work seem premium, unusual place to bother putting one though I think. Anyway, here are the caps that I believe are popped. I'm not even sure what that mod chip is, I was able to put Cerbios 2.42 on it with XblastOS no problems. The board looked nasty around the two caps so I've cleaned that all up with a spray can of electroncis PCB cleaner. Here's the full board, they're the only bad looking caps, the clock caps been removed at some point thankfully. This is a zoom in after the clean up, it came up pretty good I think. Now what caps can I buy to fix those two? Hopefully I can source some locally somewhere to speed up the process. I have these in my Xbox parts collection, will these do the trick? I can't read much on the others but do see they're 6.3v. Thanks in advance for the caps advice and identifying the mod chip. I just noticed it has a Foxlink PSU so I popped it out for a look and found this What is this brown stuff? Scorch marks on the bottom of the case Otherwise it looks OK
  6. Hey all! I have a 1.0 that spools up to boot for about 2 seconds and then shuts down. Does that twice and then I can get it to stay powered with a FRAG 50/50 but never has any detectable video output. Not hard modded. I pulled the five Caps by the CPU and they all checked within limits. Clock cap is removed and there is not trace rot. Power supply works normal with other 1.0 boards. Any ideas? Thanks in advance
  7. Dear all, sorry to bother you with a maybe stupid question again, but i want to give a last try before i send the mainboard to hardware heaven. I have got a org. Xbox v1.0 times ago and I was able to set up the Box by TSOP the Box and also by installing bigger Harddisk and XBMC accordingly. All was working well for month and than the journey starts. First, the Box stops working after some time in the middle of processing. I copied some games from Samba Share to the Box. Copy process starts regularly and after 1,5h Box crashed by "no video signal" and without finishing the copy process. When the Box crashed, Box didn't reboot or didn't change the color of the LEDs. So okay ... things can happen ... So I try to switch on the Box again, disconnect from power and switch on the box again ... Green/Red error ... Shit ... Waiting for one hour, try again ... Box starts regularly. Start copy process again ... again after some time ... Box crashed. This time i was able to restart the Box directly after the crash and i check the temperature of CPU und GPU and both shows normal temperatures below 58°C. Okay, changed the power supply ... Same issues ... I changed Harddisk and DVD ROM, furthermore I was able to refresh the BIOS as well also tried another BIOS version. Furthermore, i installed a Modchip in the Box ... But no success. The 4 powerlines on the mainboard are checked as well, same for the rest of the mainboard ... all looks okay. During the next weeks the box crashes more often and much faster than before, so i decided to replace the power caps on the board ... Long story short ... no success same issue. By now the box didn't work properly ... Try to start 3 times ... than turns to Green/Red Error again. Also I replaced two other caps next to the GPU but no success ... So, now I'm lost ... Hope someone has an idea for other some other tries ;-) Thanks for all ideas and hints Kind regards
  8. Hi all, I replaced the three CPU capacitors with new replacements and now the Xbox doesn't boot... just a dark screen. I'm going to assume I must have burned the contact points when removing the old caps. Is the motherboard a brick? russlb
  9. I have a v1.4 that doesn't seem to be getting power at all, zero response from power/eject so I've tried a bunch of stuff: - Replaced 3x 3300uF 6.3V, 3x 1500uF 6.3V, and 2x 3300uF 10V caps, all the big ones - Checked continuity on those 4 lines that usually get rotted, 3 were good, rebuilt 1 and confirmed continuity with the top of the board - Reflowed the 20 pin ATX header - Tested with 2 known good PSUs - Tested with 2 known good front panel PCBs I haven't seen this behavior (or lack of) before and had it not be bad caps, but if there's something to be tried short of an entire recap, I'm unaware of what that would be. Anyone have any ideas?
  10. I've heard that you can replace the 5 1500 uf caps on a 1.0 and 1.1 with 3 3300 uf caps anywhere. I have been trying to fix a 3 boot fragging 1.1 with bad caps. I replaced it with the three capacitors and it still frags. When trying a modchip sometimes it fragged and sometimes it became a coma console (green light no video). Do you think this fragging is caused by the capacitors being the three 3300 uf caps? Does it still need to be the 5 1500 uf caps?
  11. Hi, I have a 1.6 XBox with the 5 caps near the power supply bulging a bit, now I want to replace them but I don't know which caps to get. I am currently looking at this set: https://www.digikey.ca/en/products/detail/panasonic-electronic-components/EEU-FK0J332L/9921194?s=N4IgjCBcoEwKwyqAxlAZgQwDYGcCmANCAPZQDaIMALDAJwAMVIAukQA4AuUIAyhwE4BLAHYBzEAF8iAdnhIQqSJlyES5SmADMjCKxCdufIWMlEYjWvMXL8RUpAqbt9AAQBWgGIt2XSCACqwoIcAPJoALJ4GDgArvx4ppT00pbQCujYtmoOIABsAHSaLgBq3vq%2BAUGhEVGx8YkAtBBp1pmq9hRg9CwSvUA Are these good quality ones that will work no problem on the XBox? Sorry if this has been asked for 1000 times but I've not been able to find a post that has exact cap specifications because I don't want anything to go wrong. Thanks.
  12. I've 3 xbox with the soldering pads are destroyed there is just the hole...so there is a chance to solder the leg of the caps to another place? Thanks...
  13. Hi fellow kids. Just wondering if I should recap the power supply in my og Xbox?
  14. the 3 main caps behind the heatsinks, can they cause damage? i recently saw 3 of those caps have around 8,000uf(they're suppose to be 3300uf) and i'm wondering if that can damage a processor? it's making me wonder if i should recap some xbox's just to prevent damage.
  15. i hard modded a 1.4. i have replaced the clock cap. i still have some stuff to finish up on it and i was wondering if there was any reason to replace the 3300uf and 1500uf caps on it? the xbox seems to work fine so, if i did change them, would there be any benefit?
  16. i've never seen a youtube vid where the smaller capacitors were replaced, only the bigger ones. do the small ones not go bad?
