  1. I definitely need to try this, I wasn't aware that it was even a thing. Would the GPU need some sort of cooling mod though? Also, I wonder if there's much point trying it on my V1.0 with the 1GHz CPU and 128MB RAM. EDIT: Am I right in thinking I'd need to have a modchip to even attempt this? I'd imagine a bad value would render the Xbox unbootable, even with iND-BIOS.
  2. Mine was a crystal too, but I fried the hard drive by accidentally shorting it when trying to hotswap the HDD. This was over 10 years ago and I knew nothing about TSOP flashing or console revisions, so I threw that one out and kept the DVD drive at the time. I got another crystal one that was given to my cousin who never used it, so that became my main one instead. Unbelievably, I threw out 3 black Xbox's about 4 years back, as I was trying to get rid of things to save space. I still regret it to this day that I was stupid enough to do that, the only thing I remember is that one of them was missing the DVD drive, and I'm not sure if the others worked either, but they likely could have been salvaged either way. I know the consoles are easy enough to come by for a reasonable price, but I still wish I'd kept them all. Chances are they were probably all earlier revisions that could probably have been TSOP flashed.
  3. This looks pretty nice. I would like to do something like this to my own at some stage since mine are pretty scratched up. The only one I have that isn't noticeably scratched on top is my crystal 1.6, but I always thought the black Xbox looked better. I'm still planning to get a replacement PSU for my other V1.0 and TSOP flash it. It will be nice to have it as a spare, and for some games that won't work properly on my 1GHz console.
  4. For some reason, it's not working in Vice City. Once they've all been changed, the game still runs too fast. It seems to run choppy too for some reason after altering the values. Splinter Cell games work once the values have been altered in other xbe files. I'll quote myself from assemblergames: It turns out Chaos Theory has sc3.xbe and sc3_adv.xbe, I just edited those to have the 1000000000Hz value and that seems to have solved the problem. Pandora Tomorrow has Offline.xbe that also needs the value changed to make the game work. As for San Andreas, I only noticed the first post had a quote which stated that it's usually in Hz, while that's kHz. I just got confused because I've seen that it's in kHz instead of MHz, but it's usually a value in Hz.
  5. I got the V1.0 Xbox earlier today and just used the PSU for my 1GHz Xbox for now. The Xbox was listed as faulty, stating that the power button gets stuck and the laser is weak. I tested the Xbox today, and it's actually the eject button that's finicky, but it still works. I tried Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, which I'm almost sure is a dual layer disc, and it was working fine. It's a Thomson drive, just like my other V1.0 originally had, but I replaced that one with a Samsung. Since that other Xbox seemed to work fine aside from the sticky eject button (which is something that can easily be fixed), I'll still keep an eye out for another power supply, or another cheap Xbox that actually had something such as the HDD fail so I can use the PSU from that. It would be good to have this working too as it can be TSOP flashed also. Another weird thing is that I expected it to have the GPU fan, but it has the passive heatsink too, and was missing a couple of screws. Whoever owned it before me must have gotten the GPU heatsink replaced.
  6. Yeah San Andreas is easy enough. I still patched the default value of 55 C7 B5 2B with 00 CA 9A 3B too just to be sure, but additionally you need to change all instances of 95 30 0B with 40 42 0F. If you have a 1.4GHz CPU, you'll want to replace 55 C7 B5 2B with 00 4E 72 53, and all instances of 95 30 0B with C0 5C 15 instead.
  7. The weird thing is that the menus are fine once those 2 identical mentioned codes are changed back to default, but that makes the screen 640x480 in the upper left. There must be another value somewhere else that can be altered to fix the menus, but the problem is trying to find it, since we don't really know what we're looking for to begin with. When I tried it with Rayman 3, the menus were just stretched vertically, and I knew where to fix that as I spent a lot of time last year trying to make that one widescreen when OgHXD wouldn't work. Maybe the values could be slightly similar to that game, it wouldn't do any harm for me to have a look.
  8. Did anyone ever manage to get GTA Vice City to run properly on a 1GHz or 1.4GHz CPU? I disassembled the xbe to have a look through it, but it doesn't seem to work the same as the likes of San Andreas. I know that with San Andreas, it had a QueryPerformanceFrequency call and it was just hex for 733333 (MHz instead of KHz), but Vice City doesn't seem to work in the same way at all.
  9. I did, I'm sure that can be sorted out somehow also. Anyway, I'm not sure what happened with that other one, but I've tested this one and it definitely boots on my Xbox. TW_06.ips There must be more to it than I think though, it seemed to end up with broken menus again after the Tiger Woods demo, so it must only work until you're in game, then change resolution again. This one is a bit strange, though at least it works better than San Andreas, which seems to be stuck tiled in 640x480.
  10. The pause menu seems to be still broken though, but nevertheless, here's what I have so far if you feel like trying it.
  11. In this line here: 05 00 18 3D 00 80 02 66 C7 05 08 FA 3C 00 E0 01 I'm replacing "80 02" (640) with "00 05" (1280) and "E0 01" (480) with "D0 02" (720), but when I change it to that 1280x720 resolution, it just ends up broken again like what OgXHD does. At worst come to worst, you could still play the game, as it's only the menu that's in the top left, while the actual game is full screen, but it would be better to figure it out.
  12. Here's my progress so far, I figured out where the value is, but now I need to figure out what value the menu should be in order to stretch it to full screen.
  13. Alright cool, I'll have to go through these one at a time until I find out what's breaking the menus. OgXHD seems to be changing 101 values, so it's likely just changing some things it shouldn't be is all.
  14. Nice work! What settings did you use for Tiger Woods 06 in OgXHD by the way? I'm trying to compare values with a hex editor to see where it might have gone wrong. Since the gameplay itself works, I think OgXHD is just changing a few too many values, causing the menus to glitch.
  15. I'll have a look at the others now and get back to you as to whether I see any progress. I'll start with 06 first since that has a black screen on the menu.
  16. That's great that 05 works, I really like that one. As for the blank screens, there's likely a way to fix it, but it could take a lot of trial and error with a hex editor. Also, you could create an IPS patch of the XBE with Lunar IPS. You basically choose the unmodified game XBE, then choose the one you have modified, and finally save the .ips file. That means that anyone who wants to use the patch can just open Lunar IPS, choose the ips file, then choose the xbe they want patched.
  17. Is there much of a difference in terms of picture quality with a decent component cable vs the HDMI mod? I have an OSSC, so I usually set 480p content to line double at 960p. Also sorry, I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I thought it would make more sense than making a new topic just to ask this.
  18. Speaking of which, my donor Xbox with the PSU for my v1.0 with the upgraded RAM and CPU should be arriving probably Tuesday or Wednesday. Mine has iND-BiOS 5004.67, and I use XBMC on it at the moment. Which BIOS would you guys recommend? I've heard mixed reviews on which BIOS version is better to use.
  19. Good point, it would be pretty nice to see the games in 720p. I much prefer the older Tiger Woods games over the newer ones also. Anything from Tiger Woods 10 and earlier are the ones I really enjoyed playing.
  20. It's called OgXHD, but it's very hit and miss as to whether it works, and it tends to break some games. I can have a look at Tiger Woods if you want, I'm actually surprised that it isn't already widescreen, given that it's a sports game. The only game I have managed to manually patch as of yet was Rayman 3 (and Rayman Arena too kinda), but it took a lot of trial and error to figure out how to make it work properly, since objects and enemies near the edges of the screen were being cut off. There is a user named Esppiral from assemblergames who documented a lot of hex edits for games. It would be nice to have a thread on this forum documenting any widescreen patches that are figured out by users too. Hex editing an XBE file using HxD is a piece of cake, since anyone can literally just click replace, put the original code that's written into the top box, and put the new modified code in the bottom one (both will be written). It would be in a format like this and it should be easy to follow: Find 00 00 80 3F Replace 00 00 40 3F
  21. Yeah to be fair it's closer to 7v than it is to 5v. It's unusual that the rails are off by so far though, they're off by roughly 1.5v. The PSU is completely off the rails.
  22. One of my 1.6 models was doing this also, where the HDD stopped and squeezing down on the Xbox made it spin up again. I opened it and it turned out that wiggling the cable resulted in the HDD shutting off, but after tightening the connections on the molex using a flathead screwdriver to bend them, it seems to be working fine now. Oh, and 10.4v definitely sounds very low, I've seen PC's drop into the high 11's, but 10v really doesn't sound sufficient.
  23. I feel the same way and also have the time set automatically, especially since a lot of games use timestamps in their save files.
  24. That's not a bad idea, and it could be especially handy for chimp. I often have to use a PC or another Xbox just to power a HDD when it comes to that.
  25. I need to make myself one of these, I made the mistake of buying cheap crappy component cables before and I'd never do it again. The cable I use now is an awful looking thing with tape all over it and uses a LAN cable for the video. LAN cables aren't even shielded, so I really should sort it out soon. I don't mind breaking another composite cables since they're easy to come by and I already have an RGB cable if I wanted to use a CRT. Same with breaking component cables from a 360, since they have HDMI since 2007 anyway.
