  1. Well it only works on smooth plastic, not textured kinds like xbox cases. It's about polishing with sandpaper and micromesh pads. If you're dealing with light to moderate scratches on smooth plastic, not deep like someone ran a knife across it, you can polish it back to a basically like-new appearance. You just sand the plastic gently with a series of grits from 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500, 3000 .... in that order. Higher grits than 3000 will make things unbelievably shiny btw. One of the plastic lenses on my infrared safety glasses that I use for forging was scratched bad and when I polished it up to 3000 grit it was already clear as glass again. Pic below is a jewel polished to 1500 grit. I also gotta point out to only use brand name sandpapers/pads, like 3M. I gambled on some cheap off-brand sandpapers last year that are prominent on the different merchant sites, I think the brand name was ADVcer, that were alleged to be 4000 to 15000 grit but they were a scam. You probably knew about basic polishing though.
  2. okay, if it were scratches I had tips ready
  3. Same, they sound dumb. More modern terms and slang though...too many of those have a downright Idiocracy feel to them, and I don't care to live in a world like that, or at least to be exposed to it. Those get filtered. There's enough stress in a day without the news or a blogger or someone talking to me like I'm a retard. Didn't wanna derail things with a rant but it seems OP's problem is practically solved, so yeah... I had no idea other people hate that dumbass word. No joke I was genuinely taken aback.
  4. yeah it's foxreplace, I uh....have problems I remember somehow editing XBMC to change it to applications, but on topic I fudged a softmod like OP once and the dash fix for error 21 with halo 2 didn't work, I wonder how he fared
  5. that odious contraction actually became one of my trigger words, I can't believe other people hate it, too I have a word filter add-on always running these days
  6. well holy crap, how much did that cost?
  7. a third world country calling itself 1st world
  8. when I saw the OP I thought to myself "how big's it gonna be, like 50 gigabytes?" are those rars parts of one large file or are they individual game/emu packs and usable independent from each other? downloading 57GB would take a month
  9. wut I saw like a dozen old threads this past week saying it does resize them
  10. alrighty then, I'll try those eventually (no fresh discs yet)
  11. I just mean its optical drive is so old and picky it won't read a disc that has a little tiny scratch. There was admittedly no use in mentioning that part. I don't even know how to find cerbios by the way. Is xbins still an irc channel or did it move to that trendy discord thing? I don't know what discord is but from the stories I've heard I don't think I wish to know.
  12. no, I see now that my earlier post was confusing, sorry for that the behavior I described (after the installer part) is with the chameleon removed from the xbox I will figure out how to fix this
  13. I don't know if all that is necessary yet, I can still run discs (if they're spotless), so burning a rescue disc or something seems to me the logical next step. But thanks for the offer.
  14. did all that, now this xbox is borked the installer pop-ups were saying that everything went well, the system rebooted, the flubber animation did its stupid thing, then I get a black screen with solid orange front panel lights okay, I'm going to bed...
  15. no, it's not of course there's an argument to be made for "proper" tools, in any area, not just electronics -- they cut a lot of crap out of the process, they usually don't come with as high a learning curve and can save you time (very important when one gets a little older and starts seeing how short life really is), not to mention the quality of work is usually better, and certain jobs are practically impossible without them but I wouldn't call using simpler tools a "crapshoot," ultimately it's your choice if you don't wanna deal with them I wish I had expensive tools, my stuff is primitive as hell, couple months ago I made a large leather sheath that anyone with a shop could crank out in a day but it took 2 weeks, the dagger in it took a month, there were other things I wanted to do with that time
  16. I don't know enough about electricity, shorts or flux in general to say. I know my flux was shorting the leads on my second ram upgrade. It was apparently only conductive enough to scramble the signals, not destroy anything, but maybe more conductive fluxes exist. Maybe yours?
  17. yeah, just tried that with sid 5.11, it tells me something like "modded files already present" and refuses to work, then I accidentally clicked on delete ms backup and hobbled this xbox with error 13, lol I managed to get the second xbox's disc drive working somewhat and reached the menu on mechassault but upon clicking "run linux" it goes to a black screen and hangs there, and trying with its hdd copy of splinter cell results in a freeze, this was not helped by setting the xbox's date/time as I've seen recommended on other websites so...back to work
  18. Is this even something you can do? Or would I waste my time trying? I have two xboxes waiting to softmod>tsop, the disc drives in both are fugged so I can't use my mechassault disc. I'm wondering if the softmod can be performed from a digital copy of the game on the hard drive + hard drive copy of the exploit game save, all while running on a modchip.
  19. hahaha, 1mb/s here, 1.5 on a good day I think my parents pay $60/month
  20. the lid on it looks like someone got inside, uh oh
