A new drive belt is not going to solve your problem.
  4. Replacing every capacitor on the Xbox really is a fool's errand. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
  5. Why would he try to remove the modchip in the first place?
  6. I would go out on a limb and say if you replace those 5 bulging capacitors, your problems will likely be solved. No need to do a complete diagnostic....just tackle one problem at a time, then re-test. Bulging capacitors are a common problem.
  7. Please take your Xbox to someone with experience in electronics repair.
  8. There was probably an Xecuter chip inside that didn't come with the external bank switches, so they used this dip switch.
  9. Replace all the bulging caps with 3300mf 6.3V capacitors.
  10. The RAM chip on the top of the board, nearest to the AV port.... On the side oy that RAM that's closest to the AV port, there are two pins in the middle of that row that might have a spec bridging them. It appears that way in two separate pics....
  11. If your chip is wired properly and it functions, you should be able to cold boot an installation disk like Hexen or similar. To be honest, that soldering looks rough.....
  12. We believe in you, Snapper. Good work.
  13. If the caps haven't had current running through them or have been in charge/discharge cycles, I'd say they're in good shape....with the tiny possibility that they've dried out....which is rare.
  14. You don't split 1mb BIOS files. You split the TSOP chip with a BIOS flasher. If you want a 4-way BIOS option, you'll need to wire your XBOX up for a 4-way split and flash 4 individual 256kb BIOS files. Not sure why you'd want 4 different BIOS options though....
  15. That soldering is a nightmare....
  16. It will boot burned disks and boot disks like Hexen's or OGXboxInstaller....it just won't work on retail disks.
  17. A NAS drive on your LAN running Samba would be so much more practical and accessible by other devices....
  18. Yes. With a chipped or TSOP'ed system, you can boot disks from an IDE drive. You'll need a molex power splitter and put the drive in SLAVE mode (Try CABLE SELECT second if SLAVE doesn't work).
  19. See if you get the same behavior with a UDMA2 BIOS. Also, have a look at the motherboard caps. Maybe take a pic.
  20. I wouldn't buy gear like this from anyone other than a reputable seller.
