  1. my switchboard is like the first shown. i love those full X3 set-ups. hoping to run into an LCD some day. Wonder if there is any generic product that can be used.. ive butchered all ym fancy texas instrument calculators trying to Frankenstein one in.... just kidding.
  2. case closed (as soon as case was opened) was plugged in backwards... someone in a rush!!!
  3. I have a curious situation with a v1.4 and an X3CE installed. It seems to have troubles on controller ports 3 and 4... i found plugging a wireless controller dongle into port 3 does nothing (in xbmc) and port 4 "blacks out" the video. the console doesnt reset or anything... just switched to black screen... has something been modded or is something broken? very curious indeed
  4. ive been considering this screen for replacement on my intec xbox portable screen (the intec has a terrible screen installed)
  5. you are a bad ass mother fucker sorry for swearing
  6. ive watched this Again Floydzabarber im curious to know if it will have any effect on xbmc with "full codec support": anyone else get certain files that just dont like the xbox? is it plain and simple HD thats the issue?? or is it certain encoding? i use it at times to stream from upnp device. works nice especially with a media server. will it handle the heavier stuff a bit better with more ram?

    New To Modding

Just jumping in, I had some bad luck with cheap sata-ide converters, buy the startech adapter, I had bad luck (fried a drive) The startech product seems to be the best. it also has a built in molex splitter which simplifies life when cloning the drive) the model name is "ide2sat" Ive used some very cheap ide cables i found on a canadian site http://www.cablesalescanada.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=480_641_646 they only had the 36 inch cable available but it works just fine and its kinda nice with the added slack... ide folds really well, get creative with cable management. Another thing ive had happen was a bad dvd drive (i like to use the hexen disc) it wouldnt read anything. so i left the stock dvddrive connected to power in xbox (connected ide cable to pc drive powered unit using startech splitter), with a disc in the xbox drive (tells xbox its reading a disc) and the hexen disc in the pc drive it booted the software and i was able to finish my install Rockys softmod kit works really well and the instructions are clear... (im not sure he includes the drive explorer software in the kit) you will need a usb drive that is smaller than 4GB which i had a hard time finding... you can make a xbox-usb adapter if you have a donor female usb (typically the end of a usb extension) What i did was sacrificed a third party controller for the controller port cord BUT when i had made the xbox-usb i had the male end left over from the extension cable so i soldered that onto the end of the gamepad cord... well!! now i had a pc game pad and if you simply connect the male usb end to the female xbox-usb end the gamepad stilll works on the XBOX!!! very cool.
  9. Just clarifying... X2 will be fully functional on no drive?
  10. informative response. love your view on refurb. makes alot of sense from a marketing view. i would never call a new dvd drive a refurb but then again what do you call it. Thanks for that. So ive 99% got a 1.0 which i am very pleased with. The date/serial number sticker on this one also looks alot different than anything ive seen. Looking closer now that you mentioned the dvd drive. this one was manufactured in 2005... BINGO thats the refurb. there is no way an xbox manufactured in 2002 had a dvd drive manufactured in 2005. thats not even math. thats just that. Thank you very much.
  11. which is highly unlikely if the fan connector is direct to mobo? . any potential insight into what could have been refurbished in this unit? were the V1's susceptible a power failure at one point?
  12. OK, if it has the GPU fan, is it DEFINITELY a 1.0?
  13. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00EOJNGC2/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Looks like the startechs are on sale. save 10 bucks. time to strike!!
  14. This is exactly why im here. Man, these little tidbits go a mile. I wasnt comfortable with that being lit either, i mean its fine... its a tiny LED. but WHY does it need to glow red at night. Thanks for that. Very cool. I cut my L-trace and did not ground D0 works great
  15. Thank you kindly for this thread, I successfully TSOP flashed my 1.4 on the weekend!!! used ind-5003 67 Stupid me didnt realize you need to softmod it then tsop it, which is just SO MUCH FREAKING FUN!!!! really it was, so far this seems even better than a modchipped box. Why? some kind of placebo thats making it emulate better.
  16. ok, im not sure on this. but cant you use chimp to clone specific partitions. take the original drive and clone it to the 2TB, then set up your partitions (identical to the other drive f&G or just F etc...) then chimp over ONLY the partitions you dont want to painfully FTP, (retain the original drives) Personally i find when working with anything experimental my best friend is the original master drive. In the past i've just cloned whatever is present and start making whatever changes i feel fit on the new drive. (ive found several cracked out soft mods that ive rescued via that method) changing anything on the stock drive scares me... i got a little gunshy after unlocking a master hdd.... so young, so dumb. And when i began to edit my post i realized... this brilliant man is trying to take advantage of the incredible speed increase SATA brought to the world. IM done, just delete me.
  17. i have never done this permanently But i have encountered alot of people mentioning it does work, BUT certain things will have it hang-up a bit. any experience on that? I noticed my X3 box will boot without a dvd drive and seems to work fine but it was only during a slim set-up where i was using the dvd drive for flashing on the other console that i noticed it would boot without (never did an in-depth test) and most recently a TSOP flashed with ind-5003 booted without a dvd drive i did that for shits a gigs and actually had the 2nd hdd connected ready for chimp-clone and it booted like that. (boot animation was choppy and sound was off) WEIRD I've seen alot of talk about potential issues (corpse you can chime in and stop me in my tracks with evidence of a fully functioning tsop no-dvd) it is a fail-safe to have the original pcb on board because i can 100% vouch for that set-up. i had anything and everything working with jsut the board attached and the "tray closed" emulated (tape) Ive also read about the prospect of bridging pins on the power connector to have the best of both worlds... this is very interesting to me. I will tell you why. I have a bad dvd drive on my X3 BOX, would not read discs, i had a crisis where i needed to recover my dash... i was able to boot hexen using an LG DVD-rom drive using my pc PSU and the ide connection from the xbox drive. So i had the power connected to the stock drive and the IDE cable connected to the pc drive which was powered by an external PC PSU. It read the disc way faster but i understand you cannot use these pc drives to read a game disc. All of the above is booting into xbmc or unleashx or something like that, ive never been able to set-up multiple hdd in some kind of linux box configuration. I have no clue how to do that. using file manager was supposedly one of the largest caveats for the "no-dvd bios" where the system would slow to a crawl. Again, cOrPsE I have never tried it. But this may prompt me to do so. Would be nice to put closure to all of this. I would like to have an option to temporarily (or externally) connect the dvd drive when/if i needed it while never needing it otherwise.
  18. What you're trying to do is eliminate the dvd drive? Remove the pcb from the drive and also retain the pcb that has a small switch on it that senses open/close.... mine had a small motor on it which i just snapped off the pcb by hand,.. ended up breaking hte pcb a bit on removal and it still worked. There is a switch on the board that if taped down basically tells the other board "the tray is closed" then your xbox doesnt think its open. Some mod configs allow booting to other dash with tray open... obviously you lose this functionality. so ya, basically with this method you have no issues because all of the above is retained inside the xbox and looks like a realdrive... when i was doing that it fealt wrong like "theres got to be a better way" and in the end i just took that route, the nice thing is you can always go back and with the above case mod (i did the exact same thing, cut from the drive line and then mod/cut internals accordingly) Id like to try again one day with a 2.5" drive and an even more streamlined case, maybe even custom case. but until i find another box with a dvd drive that i deem too far gone, im not going to do this... honestly, the xbox is the only thing in my living room that takes a disc.... i access content via network only.
  19. elaborating further, what does the boot look like after this soldering job is done? how do we proceed with unsigned code? "flashing the tsop"; is that done with hexen? which bios works best for 1.0/1.1 VS 1.2-1.5... any difference at all?
  20. This does sector by sector cloning of Xbox formatted hard drives? The description of the product from the link you sent doesn't mention sector by sector offline cloning. fair enough, but the fact remains he has successfully cloned about 7 drives.
