  1. I agree. Im not a big fan of it but I do think it is a move in the right direction. 85$ vs 160$ and no forced Stellar usage.
  2. It is right there in your own words. You have claimed several times users need to install their own dashboard with the Rocky5 softmod. Bowlsnapper even pointed out to you why this was wrong. If the softmod didnt install a dashboard, none of them would boot. The dashboard is installed during the softmod process.
  3. It is still not a stand alone mod like the original design. This new version will require a "legacy" board $25 in place of the stellar modchip plus you need the XboxHD+ $60 so that would be $85 total for this new HDMI mod instead of $160 if you were forced to buy the Stellar. I think many people will be happy with that. I'm not a big fan of the 2 board solution but I can understand why this route was taken. Instead of making 2 different versions of the XboxHD+, you make just one and allow the users to pick the Stellar modchip if they want it or if they want to use their own modchip you buy the legacy board. I think that is a good compromise.
  4. I dont think you even read your own comments in this thread. In every reply you have claimed users need to install their own dashboard. That is simply not accurate The Rocky5 softmod installer does not require the extras disc for you to have a dashboard. UnleashX is installed by default during the softmod process. If you want to install a different dashboard you certainly can but this claim you need to install through another disc to make it work is inaccurate.
  5. Rocky5's softmod installs UnleashX as a dashboard. The simple white look is a custom skin.
  6. Thanks for the info. It looks like that seller has some mixed reviews. Good to hear your modchips worked.
  7. Thanks for the info. Using your method didnt you need to use a Lattice programmer to get the modchip to work? Thats a good solution but Im guessing most people will want a modchip they can buy and drop into their Xbox without having to worry about programming the modchip. Still, its helpful for some Im sure.
  8. Thanks. Appreciate all the work you put into these various things.
  9. So which seller on AliExpress is selling the Aladdin modchips that can be flashed directly from the Xbox? That information would be more helpful than pinning a topic where no one knows which Aladdin modchip can be flashed. I dont think that other thread has much clarity on which Aladdin to buy because some work with printed text, some dont. Some work with the extra diodes, resistors, transistors while some dont. Pinning a topic like that doesnt seem helpful because it still doesnt answer the question of which Aladdin to buy. A better solution would be to find a source who is selling Aladdins that work and let everyone know. That way you support someone who is selling good Aladdin modchips vs someone who is not. Of course there is no guarantee the person selling the good Aladdins doesnt start selling the bad ones at some point.
  10. You dont need to remove the DVD drive. The DVD drive check just disables the check for it on boot. As these Xboxes are starting to get older, the DVD drives are starting to break down and not work. In some cases the Xbox wont even recognize the DVD drive is plugged in so on boot the Xbox will give an error 12. DVD drives can be fixed. Often the issue is the DVD drive needs a capacitor or resistor replaced on the PCB board. Broken lasers will cause an Xbox to not be able to read games but it should not cause the DVD to not be recognized by the Xbox. That usually points to a PCB issue. If a DVD has PCB issues I dont think I would want to keep it connected to the IDE however as that may cause other issues. Yes people have removed their DVD drives and moved their hard drives in order to better cool the Xbox. Here is a project NeMesiS has been working on.
  11. A TSOP flash is a hard mod and is much preferred over a soft mod. With a hard mod either by TSOP flash or modchip you never need to worry about locking a hard drive. This makes it easier to install new hard drives, pull the old one out and write files to it, etc.. It is just a lot easier to deal with when you dont need to worry about locking and unlocking. With a hard mod you also have the ability to ignore the DVD drive check. As these Xboxes are starting to get older the DVD drives are having issues. One problem that can happen is the DVD is not recognized by the Xbox and the Xbox will throw up an error 12. When this occurs, the Xbox is stuck because it wont load your dashboard because it doesnt detect the DVD drive. Even if you have a softmodded Xbox you will be stuck because the Xbox doesnt make it far enough in the boot process to load the softmod off the hard drive. With a hard mod you can disable the DVD drive check so even if your DVD is causing issues the Xbox will still boot the dashboard. A TSOP flash is more of a permanent solution. Sometimes people mess with files on their hard drive and screw up their softmod. With a TSOP flash your Xbox is still going to be modded even if you wiped your entire hard drive.
  12. While I would recommend a TSOP flash for your 1.1 and 1.4 it is not needed for either of those or your v1.6 to run Cerbios. You can launch Cerbios as a BFM BIOS on any softmodded Xbox. From the Cerbios v2.3.1 readme: "To Launch Cerbios As A BFM Bios, Simply Copy The Pheonix Bios Loader Folder To Your HDD ALong With A Copy Of Cerbios Bios File Renamed As Cerbios.bin, Copy BootAnims Folder & Cerbios.ini to Root Of C Launch Default.XBE & Let The Magic Happen. Console Should Reboot Into Cerbios
  13. Sounds like he is asking about UIX but its possible he could be thinking of something else. It is hard to understand the question sometimes
  14. If you are talking about patches to the original MS dashboard that would be UIX and the different variants of it. UIX and the Lite/Ultra Lite variants are based on the original MS dashboard and have patches involved to change the behavior of the original MS dashboard. I dont use UIX as Im a bigger fan of the more modern dashboards so I cant tell you all of the various quirks UIX has but I know its not a completed dashboard. https://github.com/MrMilenko/UIX-Ultra-Lite https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UkiaQZAqEys https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlFVf--V0Ac
  15. Im not sure who runs the https://back-ups.me/index.php site but that is where the various CoinOPS builds and addon packages were initially released before those releases got spread through other outlets. It looks like ToniHC has released his 2TB and 4TB dragon builds there as well so it doesnt look like you need to donate to download those torrents. I would encourage anyone that wants either the 2TB or 4TB dragon4gamers build to use a VPN even though its a private torrent.
  16. I would give it a try but ToniHC wants you to be a patreon supporter. If you look in his youtube video description "I only share this pack with emuxtras patreons and my patreons"
  17. Never tried either one but I know ToniHC did some things for Coinops and has been around awhile. I would bet the 2TB build is pretty good. I was never a fan of the 2TB Origins build. Very unorganized and a bit sloppy.
  18. Are you using a USB adapter? and what kind are you are using? The problem with some of these IDE to USB adapters is often times they just dont work well for locking/unlocking IDE hard drives with xboxHDM23usb and FATXplorer.

    files fail

You could try WinSCP to transfer the files and see if it makes any difference.
  20. Yes, the automatic Safe Mode a nice feature. If for some reason Cerbios didnt detect a wrong UDMA mode, you could also boot in to safe mode yourself by powering on the Xbox with the eject button. Its a really good BIOS although Im still not a big fan of the logo.
  21. His soft modded Xbox hard drive is 2TB. His hard modded Xbox is 4TB. Im guessing there are a good number of files that need to be transferred over to the new 4TB. I do think connecting both to the computer would probably be a good idea since SATA would be the quickest way to transfer but it is nice to have other options for transferring the files.
  22. I think people generally have a harder time with a direct connection from the Xbox to a computer. You may want to try connecting your Xbox to your router and see if that will work for flashing the BIOS next time. This is a longer video that deals with installing the Xenium but I have it marked at the time it deals with flashing the Xenium so this may be helpful: https://youtu.be/ICRS3yHICKQ?t=1833 There are a few ways you could do this. The fastest might be to remove both hard drives connect them to your computer and have FATXplorer transfer the files between the hard drives. You could also maybe just connect one, save the files to your computer then connect the second hard drive and transfer files back. You could also FTP files to your computer but this would probably be slower. Last you can connect an Xbox directly to another Xbox but you would need to use a crossover cable. I believe the Avalaunch dashboard has a boost mode for this but its been such a long time since I have done an Xbox to Xbox file transfer I dont remember the steps. Im sure someone else on the forum knows the fastest way to do an Xbox to Xbox file transfer.
  23. Im not 100% sure on all the various reasons but I know some of these bridge chips used in these adapters/docking stations dont support ATA pass-through commands and USB 3.0 adapters dont seem to work at all for locked IDE drives. Although most people are using SATA there are times where you might need to read/write/erase an old IDE drive. People still use the hotswap method to softmod their stock Xbox. USB IDE adapters with the JM20337 chip are known to work with IDE drives which is why the Startech USB2SATAIDE and Warmstor are good choices USB 3.x for SATA drives tend to work better but even then you can have issues with those not working. I bought a cheap off brand adapter I tried to use for a SATA drive and it wouldnt work. I ended up spending more money to get the Sabrent DS-UTC1 and it works fine. I think the biggest part of what determines if a adapter or docking station will work is what kind of bridge chip is used in the adapter/docking station.
  24. When I first joined this forum I had a ton of trouble trying to get a USB adapter to work and spent hours on it. Turns out it the adapter was just not compatible with XboxHDM 2.3 USB nor FATXplorer.
  25. The software doesn't need a SATA port on the PC at all. You could set up the hard drive using an old IDE computer because you would be using the USB port not a SATA or PATA. The fastest and best solution would be a SATA connection as it is much faster but USB can work albeit at a slower rate. Something I didnt mention in my earlier post that may useful for others that may read this thread that do not already know, not all USB adapters/docking stations ect... are compatible with FATXplorer. If trying to use an IDE drive, the best solution would be to find a USB 2.0 adapter with the JM20337 chip like the Startech USB2SATAIDE or Warmster adapter use. If setting up a SATA drive, the recommended device is the Sabrent DS-UTC1 docking station that uses the ASM235CM chip. Hope this helps anyone that may look to try setting up a hard drive with FATXplorer
