  1. Just a thought, where did the new drive come from, reason is if you pulled it from a Branded pc, some of the manufacturers have been know to put "special" firmware on the drives, which locks the computer owner to staying with them when upgrading the HDrive giving them an unsupported hardware error. HP, Compaq, and Fujitsu have played this game I recall that Sony may have dabbled as well. Normally upgrading the drives firmware to the latest vanila version from the manufacturer fixes things. Normally these drives work fine when not in the intended PC but in the past Ive seen some odd behaviour using them in other PCs , ghosted partitions that can be deleted but show up when partitioning the drive and formatting issues when installing Windoze or Linux, dosent seem to be a problem when the drive is not being used as the boot drive.

    1.6 Xbox

I bought a few some weeks back specifically to use in my 1.6's, yet to put them in but they look like they are legit and are both well made and well packed. Incidently they are also on Aliexpress and are cheaper, probably because the eBay seller is buying them from there and reselling them,
  3. Nice, you are on the road to a bright new world......
  4. Great so at least you can experience both sides of the fun.
  5. Yeah it’s really easy. Personally I remove mod chips unless it’s a 1.6 or a really special mod chip. These days the issue with mod chips and Xbox live is no longer a problem.
  6. Welcome onboard. plenty of top knowledge here, just ask away with any questions.
  7. Im in west sussex, not massively nearby but could help out if nobody is nearer.
  8. Theres enough users here and on the other remaining xbox forums that would buy these, many more than one each. More than a few users on the av forums that use xboxes as media players would snap them up. Even evilBay would likely be a market, afterall how many of us buy our boxes from there. There are quite a few chinese companies who specialise in small batch production, and wouldnt be massively expensive. Many also do component build too. Recently I read an article and watched related video on these places. Many working out of peoples spare rooms or tiny industrial units. The article had 5 boards taken from cad to printed boards made, in less than a week, and was very good quality. Food for though also is still potentially licecencing or selling the rights, there are a few places who sell xbox mods and stuff still, theyd potentially be interested. Quick money and no bother afterwards. Its people like you who keep this scene alive afterall, There should be some kind of OG Xbox scene Kinghthood for you IMO.
  9. I am more than happy to buy as a kit. I spent years working in the electronics industry, spent my apprenticeship learning to work to military spec. Soldering correctly is an OCD thing to me. I hate it when I find commercial electronics not soldered correctly. currently waiting on the delivery of a new rework station as I keep borrowing a friends one.
  10. I am up for these to be produced. I grow tired of my current set up of component cable to external hdmi convertor and its limited monitor compatability. let me know when you are on for production etc, or if you need some one with a odd ball set up to test them. I use a video switcher on one of my screens that my current convertor seems to randomly hate/not hate.
  11. It could be the Smc is broken on the psu. It’s a common thing on pc psu’s which the Xbox psu is a version of, albeit a heavily modified one. You should be able to simulate the power button press by connecting two of the cables in the multi plug. Can’t remember which ones and I’m not at home so can’t check. Basically if the psu doesn’t power up the hd and hold it powered when doing this test it will be the smc circuit on the psu. They can be replaced but most people just get a replacement psu instead. as said there is a way to plug a pc power supply in to an Xbox, google it as iirc for the 1.4 version it’s not to hard to build the conversion lead etc. Might get you out of a hole and help you on the way etc.
  12. So basically you need a uk spec powersupply, as they are 220/240v that said it could be the power button. You could test it with a mulitmeter. there is a way to put a normal atx pc psu onto an xbox. So you could look at that. Its not as simple as just plugging in though.
  13. Pop onto evilbay as there are loads of chips on sale currently, that work in a 1.6
  14. A different tac on this might be to try a correct voltage psu for the box. Someone on here is bound to have a spare that they could mail to you. That way you are running it with out the voltage convertor and if indeed it is the cause youll know fairly instantly. Im guessing that as you are going 220 to 110 you are in the states in which case there are quite a few users on that side of the pond.
  15. It does look clean. Do you have a volt meter ? I would if you can test the ouputs on the powersupply. Obviously being very careful as the whole thing is nor shielded etc. There are pin outs showing what volts should be present where etc. yours is one of the later psu types with a similar plug to a computer. Before that though check the solder on the back of the psu, especially where the mains connector is as the solder cracks under load and use, if there are cracks you just need to resolder it to get rid of the cracks etc. It could be as simple as that., obviously it helps if you have more than one Xbox to play with for testing bits. Where are you based there may be a member near by who could help etc.
  16. They are quite common in the UK too. I have several and my orginal still in its box That said the retro tax has begun to creep in and is pushing prices up. Carboot and garage sales seem to be the best bet as people usually have no clue on values. spraying clear boxes from the inside with clear spray is a winner though.
  17. Didnt know that but it would make sense.
  18. The corruption show when extracting, standard off the coinOps site down load. it works fine i just dont use Dragons Lair, which is a shame as its an iconic title.
  19. I downloaded it getting on for a year ago. The game that has the file coruption is Dragons Lair, there was another, cant remember which that had a file broken and was easy to find the working one on another site. I did down load all the fix files to correct the known errors but this one seemed to be not included. I ended up down loading the offending pack several times, then gave up trying to fix it.
  20. I downloaded massive, took a little while and ended up downloading one or more parts twice due to errors but with the exception of one title it all works fine. The broken title is down to one file and all copies on line I found both in/for coinopps and separate seemed to also be corrupt, so go figure.

That is it in a nut shell. The reason for the whole Classic Roms downloading black market in the first place can be summed up thus:- Original game no longer available, or hardware is unobtainable as was specialist systems -ie Arcade cabinets. Games originally released to a limited market through small numbers or teritorial releases in specific languages. Games just nolonger available retail and uncommon on the second hand markets. As above but available but just so highly priced that most gamers cant or wont pay the prices asked. Gamers given an easy way to run games on one platform that doesnt require massive knowledge on hardware or software tweaking. No need for a games/livingroom full of games consoles as would be the case for native hardware and disc/cart use. Irronically its our need to "gotta have them all" that drives up prices of "rarer" titles and fuels the Roms market..... Classic Chicken and the Egg syndrome. I suspect most of the beef the games and console co's have is with the out and out pirating of still in retail titles as that is where they see their hard earned cash being ripped off.
  22. What error code do they produce ? if you have the factory HD and can remove the chip from its header does it work with the standard drive installed.

When I was in Japan I was talking to one of the many second hand game store managers he was telling me how many of his fellow shop owners were hearing that the console manufacturers and software houses were really interested in eradication of the second hand market, as they saw it as loosing them money. Ironically in Japan chipped consoles were widely seen as bad sport and it was much more regular to see people with say a japan issue console and then a european one and then also the us version so they could play all the games. One shop in Shinjuku that i used to buy playstation games in had a waiting list for Uk Ps2 consoles, and couldnt sell the japanese ones. At the time I could buy a second hand Uk ps2 mint retail for £30 and the same thing as a japan version for £120. The store manager said if i could hook him up with uk ones he would give me jap ones as a straight swap limited editions inc, also a list of uk titles that he would take as many copies I could buy in Blighty and ship over. Never did get the deal set up as the local stores got sus about me wanting to buy all the stock, shipping wouldnt have been an issue as i have friends over there and had relatives working for DHL. Bonkers thing was as the OGxbox tanked over there xbox stuff was practically given away, I bough boxes of hardware and just posted it to my Uk address, and gave lots of it away to friends and as swaps for games and car parts. Sad thing was if they had actually made the classic reboots able to say connect to old carts to eaither verify ownership or play natively the old games. A simple you own it heres the encrypted version from Nintendo servers, straight to the SD memory or such, would have opened up the whole market. MS did to a certain level take this aproach with 360 games on the XBone, it could have been so much more though, than just a few titles that you need to insert the 360 disc to prove ownership to then download the XBoned version.
