  1. This thread will demonstrate how the xbox jewel can be removed, and in a pair of follow-up posts how a hole for it can be made on the xbox cover, all in a very low-tech manner. I'm not confident enough to call these tutorials, but they may be helpful. First: removing the jewel. I grab a couple feet of dental floss and stuff it under the edge of the jewel with a card or what have you. Then I dribble some rubbing alcohol down there, because in my experience rubbing alcohol acts as a mild solvent on the adhesive pad thingy underneath. Whatever helps. By the way it was another modder, not me, who invented the floss method. I start flossing while keeping the arms of the floss in that letter U shape. I'm going to add more alcohol in a minute and re-position the floss at the other side of the jewel then continue working it. After a while the floss approaches the middle of the jewel and it starts to bind, that's when I add some mineral oil to lubricate everything. Pretty much any type of oil will do though. The whole mess starts to look like this... Getting farther in, the floss wants to bind again despite the oil. I don't want it to snap. I lift one of its arms to a 90 degree angle and slowly work the floss back into action. Eventually the jewel is off. This took maybe 10 minutes.

  2. I guess I could just hand paint the button labels, let me know if you come up with a better solution. I'm very much a noob.

  3. Once again, only my opinion: I don't see what the point of simulating an XCM is. I would honestly rather have a unique, pure Xbox shell that nobody else has. I say it's perfect the way it is. XCM was meant as a fresh replacement for an old shell. You HAVE a perfect shell. I say keep it.

  4. I'm not sure, you could try the Pico firmware and see. If there's an issue with that board, it would be routing for gpio 0 and 1 not being impedance matched, so if it doesn't work you could also try putting 27 or 22 ohm (or around that) resistors in series on the data +/- lines before the USB A host port and see if that helps

  5. I've dozen dozens of 'homebrew' Doom WADs on the Xbox of one sort or another and not really had any serious performance problem, at least nothing that you would not expect. But if you're just wanting to play Doom I/Doom II and their various iterations (Ultimate Doom and the Doom II Master Levels) on the original Xbox at its best then get Doom: Resurrection Of Evil which includes them as bonuses. It is a fantastic package if you buy Doom III and Doom ROE, you'll be all Doomed out if you play through everything they contain. If you have a Xbox360 then the remastered Doom III BFG edition has all that and an additional set of Doom III missions too.

  6. So, back in the day, I was very addicted to Amiga Demo. When I discovered that there were demos even on Xbox, I started to download them to my Xbox. I remember 'Doomsday' by Complex and 'Complex' by Doomsday. You can easily find the first one, but the second one is only downloadable as a video. I searched on my old Xbox hard drive with no luck, but maybe someone here remembers them and can find a copy of 'Complex' by Doomsday? Also, this is my first post here https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=10586 https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=12093

  7. I only have the video as well. I grabbed the whole collection off of Rooftops emuxtras repo. He explains that Complex and Statement are probably lost forever. He made a _resources folder for them all as well.

  8. Take another look at the ram. It can all test good, and there can still be a slight issue somewhere

  9. Even the "DVD" and "Xbox" logo made it. However, these supports are fuckin KILLING me. They left crap all over the inside of the casing. And the resin got cloudy for some reason. I have a ways to go here...

  10. I agree. This looks unique, rather than simulating an XCM case. Not saying you shouldn't, but that's my two cents. It looks like something MS did. I think It's pretty rad! Very nice work. @GaminGuys
