  1. Past hour
  2. It’s always 40 pin, but 80 wire, as opposed to 40 pins with 40 wires.
  3. Lol, no. It's a small bunch. Some in the UK.

  6. The Insignia Discord server is your best bet for reaching them. https://discord.com/invite/CWkdVdc
  7. Pretty much any IDE cable will have the two ports you are looking for, so I wouldn't worry about that part. 24 inches is ideal, since you wont have a long ide ribbon snaking around and requiring more folds than you really should have. However, if you don't get one of the ribbons designed with Xbox in mind (like those two listings), you will need a ribbon a bit longer since you will have to double back behind the DVD drive. Those listings are examples of the special type of orientation needed for a perfect fit on the console, since the IDE design there is both backwards and mirrored. Just something to keep in mind. Yes, there is a "Master" and "Slave" position on an IDE cable. These are designated on the ribbon in standard spots, if the specific cable supports it. However, normal IDE cables will have the "Motherboard", "Slave" and "Master" positions in the opposite order, so Cable Select will not work. Your HDD SATA adapter or physical IDE drive will need to be set to "Master" manually. The DVD drive is internally set to "Slave". This is reinforced here, by the master himself.
  8. Oh, well I hope you can understand my confusion about booting. Why is hooking up a chip pointless? I was asking about a chip because it'll give you the ability to try a different bios since you cannot reach a point currently where you can launch XBlast, just in case IND was having an issue with something and you were able to get further with it. At any rate, I hope the cap swap helps. Good luck, sir.
  9. When I say disc boots I mean the drive reads the disc as if it is going to boot then fails after the flubber, same as the HDD does. I know i am no further on, that was the whole point I was making. Hooking up a chip is pointless, there is at least one cap failing and that is likely the issue here. I am going to delete this thread in the morning as it hasn’t really helped me in any way and won’t help any one else by being left here. It’s just the same question being asked over and over, and the same answers being given by me.
  10. Any of the Insignia devs hanging around here? Additionally do they have any dev journals / blogs, twitter accounts, etc. worth following? I am fascinated with their efforts. Incredible work.
  11. Okay, so in my search for a suitable replacement I am requiring the following criteria... - 24" - 40 or 80 pin How do I ensure I'm getting search results that have 2 ribbon "ports?" (They are referred to as master and slave, right?) Anything else I'm missing? Thanks
  12. I have a spare skeleton faceplate
  13. Not sure. Guy I got this from explained he got it like this. Still looks cool though.
  14. I was wondering if I was crazy to have that reaction. lol. Yes. you are no more booted than you were before if you're still hanging at the same point. @nikeymikey, are you able to hook up a chip to the LPC with Cerb on it and see if you get any further?
  15. Then it doesn't boot. Caps were my second suggestion above. Hope that's the issue and it's an easy fix.
  16. All that may be true but I've never had any issues with the standard 80 wire cables myself. Never fiddled with any jumpers on my HDD's either.........
  17. Where's the rest of the Skeleton box?
  18. UPDATE: Have just dismantled the console fully after noticing graphical artifacts during the flubber animation and it seems I have a dodgy cap next to the CPU, tell tale brown residue on the top of one of the 3 caps in that region. Will get to replacing those once I source somewhere in the UK that sells a set of the correct spec caps. Cant be bothered looking up the specs and sourcing them one by one myself
  19. Yes, disc boots but then hangs with black screen after flubber. Retails disc or burnt installer disc, exact same result.
  20. DVD drive is a 100% confirmed working drive. (I have tested it in an another console that had no drive of its own and it works perfectly.) Installer Disc boots but fails after flubber with a black screen. I am going to put this one down to caps and put the console on the scrap heap until I can get a set of caps and do the replacement. To recap: DVD drive confirmed working perfectly in another console. Disc boots and fails after flubber with black screen. Indios.cfg read fine from hdd, dash does not boot hangs at flubber. HDD also confirmed to be working fine in another console. Working HDD’s from other consoles also failing with exact same issue when booting in problem console.

  22. Try booting without the optical drive connected.
  23. I second @MadMartigan here. Try booting Cerbios disc. You should be able to flash with it if you can boot it. Also, please try using another optical drive, especially if you can't boot the disc. Yours may be on the frits and causing a hangup issue on the IDE bus that is locking things up at boot. I've seen it happen.
  24. Maybe I'm overlooking your answer so sorry for asking multiple times now. Have you tried any installer discs from cold boot? I've had luck booting them a few times in the past when nothing else would work.
  25. I want to flash Cerbios (that was the whole point of getting this console out of storage today) but cannot get any further than the flubber either by dvd or hdd. Thats why my original question was whether it could be capacitor related.
  26. What happens if you swap in a known good DVD drive? Do you have any reason for the IND bios? Maybe try flashing Cerb and see what it does.
