Xenium Blue FTP access to EEPROM backup

Oh, has this box been fun :/

Started with no power at all, won't even blink.  Opened it, 1.6 with Xenium Blue in it, bulging caps abound....bleh.  Recapped (quite the adventure), but unsure of the work.  Box powers up now, but red-lights with E09, HDD access.  HDD sounds fine / feels fine, so it's either 1) IDE cable, 2) craptastic recap work ("recrap"?  haha), or 3) incorrectly keyed HDD.  Tested IDE cable, not an issue, same results.  No way to test recrap, IMO.  Working towards incorrectly keyed HDD, but don't have backup.  Here's where the fun starts.

Hitting the eject button activates the chip, boots to Xenium OS 2.3.0.  Great, EEPROM tools:  backup EEPROM:  to the chip itself.  Setup FTP / Telnet / all that, but ALL clients are showing empty when connected.  How can I download the EEPROM backup off the chip itself?  Have looked at disabling passive mode, etc. but can't get anything to work / show downloadable data.

Remember when responding, no HDD access.  Disk tools is showing "Lock Hard Drive", but doesn't work.  "Format partitions" gives "Failed to format partition".  Can't tell if it's recrap, HDD is actually dead, or just incorrect key.

Any help appreciated, this has been quite the adventure so far.  Also, if anybody in the San Diego area is doing Xbox work, PM me, zero interest in shipping.  Several boxes on hand with various problems, including corroded traces, which I just can't handle at this point :/

Why lock the drive at all? Hardmodded Xboxes don't need the drive to be locked. Skip the lock entirely if possible.

Error 09 is "Hard drive parameters are missing or incorrect". It's not a common problem. If the Xbox couldn't detect the drive at all, it would show a different error code (E08). If it wasn't locked correctly, it would give error 06. I don't think it's related to locking. XeniumOS failing to format the drive is also suspicious.

Is your HDD a SATA drive? Are you using an adapter? If so, what kind? And are you using the stock IDE cable or an 80-wire cable?

Do you have the ability to hook the drive up to a PC? Are you confident the drive isn't dead to begin with?

Also, XeniumOS is outdated at this point. Once you get your HDD working, consider upgrading the firmware to PrometheOS.

Hmmm...

Not SATA / adapter, just replacement IDE with tested 80-pin.  Will pull the drive, test, echo back, sure.  Also, "Disk Tools" showing "Lock Hard Drive" implies to me it either is unlocked, or the chip can't talk to it.  Tried locking it as a means of verifying communication, like I did with the "Format" command.  So, incorrect key is E06...haven't looked at the full table.

Any thoughts on retrieving the EEPROM backup from the chip itself?  This is primarily what I'm interested in here...once I have the EEPROM, I can hook it to the PC and (eventually, it's a process...) do whatever I want with it.

Did you try to lock the drive after backing up the eeprom to the chip? GoTeamaScotch has provided some great info and I'm assuming you mean that you tried a known working, "40 pin IDE" cable.

What do you mean by all clients are empty during FTP? You should be able to log right into the drive using Filezilla. If you're using the correct settings and IP address.
