Advanced Xenium Programmer

Working on open sourcing this. Like the original programmer… but gives more visual feedback (made this before my chip version I released).  Can program both XOS and PrometheOS. Works nice!  Will be a bit because I have to revert things back from changes I made for chip version.

Agree.  Pics will help.  0,0 indicates it’s not talking to flash.  Either CPLD and/or Flash needs reflowed (or more solder)…. Or you have a bad flash

I forgot about the CPLD being the cause of flash issues. Sometimes the CPLD will tell the software that it is okay and even flashed but as soon as it, in turn, tries to manage the logic of flashing the flash chip, (because a functional CPLD is required to flash a bios by addressing the flash) it falls on its face. I have cured flash issues by not looking at the flash chip but by focusing on the CPLD which, in many cases, ended up having bridges or improperly soldered pins once I decided to focus on IT and not the flash chip.

Something important to keep in mind.

Thx for the support guys.

Here is the picture 👍

(I did reflow all components)

can you take a close up, sharp, picture of the right-side pins on the CPLD there? I could swear that even though the pads and pins are well saturated, some pins are not making a connection. Some from a side angle of those pins would be good too, if you would be so kind. :) Have you checked for continuity on all the pins, especially those ones?

Thank you. I can see that the chip is SLIGHTLY misaligned, and in most cases, as long as it is closer to one set of pads than the other, this is not an issue. However, the pins that are 4 and 5 down on that row from the top look like they just MIGHT have a slight bridge that could be overlooked. It's hard to tell without a scope. Are you able to test

1. For continuity on all the pins

2. For shorts between the pins, especially the pins I mentioned here?

I tried every command, and flashing only OnlyFlash did fail of them all

I'm asking are you able to check for continuity AND shorts with a multimeter tool? This will tell you if there is either a problem with the soldering or a problem with the chips themselves.

I can’t tell if it’s just in the picture or not but it does look like there might be a bridge where Bowl mentioned. Also looks like maybe that whole right half of pins could use some more flux and a tad bit more solder. The joints look a little dull. Like maybe a cold solder joint here and there. Again it could just be the lighting on the picture though. If you get continuity then I’d say it’s fine. I think you said you reflowed already. Thought I’d mention it just in case. :)
