Mountaindew117
Hello everyone, I'm new to the site and figured I would introduce myself and start a help thread for a current problem that has come up. I would normally take my problems to the ISO zone but they have long since been shut down by government bodies and pressure. So in looking for a new help forum i came across this site and figured I'd give it a whirl. I have an original Xbox Halo edition, that was soft modded using the Sid soft modding program (soft mod installer deluxe). I have done the install successfully for the mod about 4 years ago and quite frankly that modding platform was old and out dated and was looking for a newer and updated soft mod for my Xbox. I did some research on the web and found that I could use Rocky5"s program to successfully update my Xbox to a newer and more stable soft mod. I was currently running a very old and outdated version of Xbox on my ogxbox. But since using rocky5's program to update my soft mod via the advanced options and selecting update old Xbox soft mods, my xbox now throws a error 13 code on the screen and I can't get into Rocky5's soft mod dashboard on my Xbox. What can I do to fix this problem? Yes my hard drive has been upgraded & I installed a new IDE cable (as the old was damaged). I sadly no longer am able to access my eeprom file that I had backed up on my old hard drive since that hard drive failed. The hd suffered a power surge a long time ago and fried the circuit board that runs the writing needles. So I have no way to retrieve the backup of the Xbox. Also in saying that I can't seem to find out which hd that came stock with my ogxbox, as I have about 40 ogxbox hard drives laying around from other soft mods I have done for my friends and family and I really don't want to try each and everyone of them individually. This wouldn't have been a problem to locate which drive is mine as I had a master copy saved on my hd that failed of each and every hard drive that came out of an Xbox I did with a soft mod matched to the person and the s/n of each drive. But like I stated that information has also been lost. I have a few options I'm going to try from putting in my halo 2 game and trying to do a force Xbox dashboard update on the console to see if that will reset the error 13 code. My second option is to try and see if I can reinstall the old soft mod using splinter cell game save file and see if that will work moving forward. I'll keep an update on this post as I would really like to get my Xbox back into running condition. Thanks for your guys time reading my introduction and any replies you may have to point me in the right direction. Thanks again, Moutaindew117 Edited February 24, 2019 by Mountaindew117
Mountaindew117
update: I have tried the second option that I know of and that was to try to reinstall the old previous mod loading in from the splinter cell game. Shows the linux game save but as soon as I click on it does a restart of the game but nothing else but restarts the game, so that option didn't work sadly. But in doing the second option as I can't also seem to find my copy of halo 2 to try a forced dashboard update, so ill have to be on the look out for the disc, I have the case but no game inside, hmmmm??? Also doing more research, I have came across a 3 method I could try. Not to sure I'm completely confident in doing this option but the option is to tsop the ogxbox and install a new hard drive from complete scratch and to format the drive using hexen 2017 and see if that will do the trick on getting me off that error 13 screen. So I'm going to have to wait for some parts to get in and ill update when those parts get here.
KaosEngineer
Any game that came out after Halo 2 also contains the dashboard updater to MS dashboard version 5960. If that's the version already installed it won't do anything but return to the game's menu. Edited February 24, 2019 by KaosEngineer
nikeymikey
If you can still boot burned discs then the TSOP and new hdd option is probably your best course of action. Once it TSOPed you could try leaving your existing hdd in and booting a disc that will give you FTP access such as HeXen, From there you will be able to FTP across a clean copy of the C drive and also delete any softmod related files from your E drive. Then you can install the hacked dash of your choice and you should be good to go then. Also you should use Rockys disc to null your hdd, this will make it easier in future to replace the hdd as the lock password will be 32 0's If anyone else wants to jump in and correct anything if im a little wrong then feel free

As the algorithm now uses the same seed (HDDKey) for any NULL'd console which was unique before NULLing. The computed password for the HDD used on any NULL'd console will be the same for that particular HDD. A different drive will have a different computed password as it's model and serial number are unique to that HDD. nikeymikey
Sounds like your softmod has failed somehow if you can boot a burnt disc. You will need a working softmod to flash your TSOP. You could buy a cheap Aladdin modchip and install it, that would let you fix things without a softmod... they are cheap enough on eBay. Mountaindew117
OK i decided to go thru all my old hard drives and i found my one that goes with my Xbox (THANK GOD) after trying 22 out of the 40 I had in storage. So now that I was able to find my hd where should I go from here? Should i try to erase the bigger hd to a clean slate and then chimp over the soft mod files? Even if the hd is bad now what do you guys recommend as far as a replacement sata hd drive proffered a 1tb hard drive if possible? nikeymikey
So does the xbox boot to a dashboard now? If so you should softmod it now if its not already and the use chimp to copy the c & e drive over to the new drive.
Mountaindew117
yes its booting and the original hard drive is already been soft modded.
nikeymikey
Ok so you can boot burnt discs now? You will need to use chimp to clone your hdd to the new one. Heres a tut from our very own Rocky5.... Iif you follow what he says and use some common sense you will be fine.
Mountaindew117
Ok all I had to completely restart from scratch. I had to do a factory reset to a clean original ms dashboard and had to do the mod completely over again using all rocky5's mod saves and my splinter cell game. I'm happy to report I'm now running rocky5's version of the soft mod now. My new question is, is there any possible way to save my upgraded hard drive to be able to use rocky's chimp program? I would hate to have to pitch a nice and good 1tb hard drive because I can't unlock it in chimp? I have tried all the options in chimp to unlock the slave drive and it still remains locked, what can i do to reformat the sata drive to save it from being a paper weight. Any ideas would be great. I have it currently hooked up to my computer but it doesn't see it.
nikeymikey
When setting up the drive as a slave in chimp, did you have the jumper settings set to slave? I made that mistake on my first try.
Mountaindew117
yes the jumper is set to slave but still will not unlock with any of the option in the menu
