DiiTr0n
Anyone tried doing a tsop flash on DVD dongle. Thinking that it enabled dvd payback with i/o and it has a bios. Would be great for 1.6 consoles if it worked. I'm sure some files on dongle would need integrated into custom bios Edited April 22, 2023 by DiiTr0n Misrepresented
KaosEngineer
IIRC, it contains an XBE file that the Xbox runs to play DVD movies, not a BIOS.
DiiTr0n
The xbe is loaded on a hardware bios chip.Something tells me security flags aren't there Edited April 22, 2023 by DiiTr0n
KaosEngineer
Like any other XBE file on an original game disc, the XBE file contained in the flash memory of the DVD Playback Kit dongle contains a signed security certificate that allows it to run on the Xbox.

The dongle is an odd case. Is there any documentation on it so I can know better how it works?

Not much. Check the little bit of information at XboxDev's dump-dvd-kit github repo and Xbox DVD Movie Playback Kit @ xboxdevwiki.net.
nikeymikey
I'm surprised that this avenue hasn't been explored before. Maybe it has and nothing useful was found... But maybe not lol

The dongle seems to contain a TSOP chip, which I'm assuming is split to serve multiple purposes: flash storage, RAM, etc. Very, very cool about the licensing reasons for containment.
mr.kitten.k
Sorry to revive an old topic, however it's a route in curious about now that endgame is available. If we could flash to the dongle an endgame based habibi signed Xbox, we have a way to BFM fairly easily. If space allows then even add in tsop flash tools ?
