  1. Hey all. I have a recent acquisition of an OG Xbox with a Samsung DVD drive that is properly jammed. It's a Samsung Model SDG-605. The front white tab is completely loose. I've tried to pop the tray loose via the small white tab on the bottom of the DVD drive and cannot get this thing to budge. I reviewed the disassembly guide here: https://web.archive.org/web/20050406225941/http://llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/Samsung_DVD_Complete_Disassembly.htm Is there any way to get this tray out without getting it fully extended? Any ideas / suggestions?
  2. Sorry, but I have to annoy you again... I once again bought a cheap ogxbox at a flea market. So far so good. Unfortunately, the box now has an error that I've never had before... and I don't know how to fix it either... When I turn on the box, the box starts to "pump". The LEDs flash alternately. go off and then on again. Fan stops and starts again, screen is black, hard drive is clicking and turning. After 5 - 10 seconds, the box is stable, the fan is running, but the LEDs continue to flash in all colors. Despite this, no error code is displayed even after a long period of time. When I press the eject button now, the DVD doesn't respond at all. If I then start the box via the eject button, the error pattern is the same at the beginning, but then the DVD is opened and the box then boots normally. Then I can even turn off the box completely and turn it on normally. Everything works as it should. If the box was switched off again for some time, the problem starts all over again. The box is a version 1.4 with TSOP patch, but the box also has the same quirks with modchip and original MS BIOS. I've changed pretty much everything that can be changed. IDE cable, yellow DVD cable, DVD ROM, hard disk, power supply unit ... the CPU/GPU cooling paste has also been renewed and the clock capacitor has been removed ... I don't see any signs of wear on the board, and the capacitors still look good... As always, any help or hint is appreciated... Cheers and Thanks
  3. I have just repaired a v1.1 Xbox that had a leaking clock cap that killed the ADM1032 thermal management IC. I do not believe this second fault is related but it may be. The Xbox started fine and ejected the disc when I pressed eject. When I press eject again it goes back in, waits a second and ejects again, all the time the eject button is flashing green. Additionally, if I press the tray in manually it goes in but the motor does not respond. When the tray is out the eject button does go solid green. I have read the clock cap leak eats traces on the front edge of the board that eject the tray function but they all bell out OK. Any ideas? Cheers.
  4. OK, I'll try to be thorough here. I have a 1.2 XBox with an X-B.I.T. It had been stored in my loft for over 10 years. When I attempted to use it, the 120GB IDE HDD had failed. I re-installed my original XBox HDD which I must have also modded back in the day, and everything worked fine. I got a replacement 120GB IDE HDD and set it up as new using FATXplorer with the C and E file from the link mentioned at https://www.hazeno.com/guides/fatxplorer-2tb-preload Now, my XBox will happily boot from any disc that I put in the DVD drive, but when I boot to the UnleashX dash and pop a disc in the DVD tray in order to copy it to F:, the tray shows as Empty. It doesn't matter what disc I put in, it always shows as empty. Subsequently, if I launch the MS Dashboard from UnleashX, when the MS Dash loads I get the standard "Your Xbox can't recognize this disc. Make sure it's an Xbox game, DVD movie, or audio CD. Also check to see if the disc is dirty or damaged. Remove the disc to continue." I have iND 5003.67 and evox M8 Plus 137 flashed in the X-B.I.T.
  5. Hi, I've just cleaned up an old xbox to keep around as a spare. I've cleaned and lubed the drive mechanism in the DVD drive, all is moving smoothly and reading discs perfectly. The only problem is that, when opening the tray, the open/close button light keeps flashing while open, and after a few seconds, the tray closes by itself. It's not stopping me from playing games, but I'd like to get it back to working as it should. Does anyone know if this sounds like something that's easy to fix? Thanks very much. -Bob
  6. Hi Friends, I'm here to ask your help again. My friend ask me to repair his xbox. When I opened it I seen the following. Xbox 1.6 with an MSI DVD/DVD RW drive. The dvd drive was soldered to the eject button's board. I do not know this type of DVD MOD cause I always use LG 8163B drive. So the plan was the following. Soldering in an Aladdin XT modchip and change this unknown DVD mod to other --> LG 8163B (it was tested in some other xboxes and worked well) and change the HDD to a bigger one. Okay, chip soldered in, works well. DVD drive changed to 8163B, and here is my problem, the eject button won't work. I can open the DVD tray only with the eject button of the 8163B. I not tested the eject button before the changes. I checked the traces on the motherborad with multimeter, everythings fine. I checked the Poweron/Eject board, there is no problem with it. So, if someone has any idea what I have to try to fix it, that would be great. Thank you in advance.
  7. Hi Everyone, I picked up another XBOX on eBay that was really clean never been opened. It has a strange issue though, if you power on it will take about 1-2 minutes to boot to the dashboard. If you power on and open the disc tray during the start-up animation it will boot straight away. I opened the XBOX and the clock capacitor had leaked so that got removed and 3 more capacitors had popped so they got replaced today. The motherboard has been completely cleaned. The disc drive works fine once powered up and games run no problem. Anyone had this issue? Is the disc drive on its way out? Thanks in advance
  8. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1N4Oes8MeRA Very good and useful video about how to remove the Xbox's disc tray bezel/faceplate but at between 30 - 45 secs the guys says: "........................... you're going to think you've broken it but you didn't" or words to that affect, repeated several times. Well..............................................guess what: I tried this with the spare dead disk drive and thought I'd broken it.............................and I had. The shower of black plastic pieces was a good indication. What broke were both the retaining channels each end which slide down over the edge of the tray front not the locking tabs as you might think. I believe I understand what went wrong; when I pulled the tabs clear of the bottom edge of the tray I continued twisting the bezel just that little bit too much. What you should do is when the tabs are just clear of the bottom of the tray stop pulling out/twisting up the bezel any more and change to pushing it straight upwards to slide it off the tray. Once the tabs are clear of the bottom edge of the tray and you start to push up they are actually lodged against the flat tray front surface behind the bezel and from that point all you're doing is sliding it up and off. No more twisting or pulling out is necessary. The little crack you may here is, or should just be, the bezel pinging back into shape as it is under tension. If that is accompanied by a small shower of plastic then you've done it wrong. In short: you do need a bit of firm physical persuasion initially but after that be gentle. Bezels do break.
  9. Does anyone know how to manually eject the tray on this Philips drive? If looked everywhere and can’t find anything about this particular drive? All the other versions had the little white bit on the bottom of the drive the released the tray, not this one tho.... someone must know how it’s driving me mental!!!!
