  1. Yep. Samsung drive from 2004. I did put in a new belt because I had the typical stuck tray issue. I will try to remove, clean and replace it again. I was thinking maybe there was some some way to "reset" the drive if it was somehow not registering that it was open.
  2. Hi, I've just cleaned up an old xbox to keep around as a spare. I've cleaned and lubed the drive mechanism in the DVD drive, all is moving smoothly and reading discs perfectly. The only problem is that, when opening the tray, the open/close button light keeps flashing while open, and after a few seconds, the tray closes by itself. It's not stopping me from playing games, but I'd like to get it back to working as it should. Does anyone know if this sounds like something that's easy to fix? Thanks very much. -Bob
  3. Looks like I had an issue with my Xbox live login in that prevented most games from playing. I managed to get the compatible games working, but apparently Black Stone is no longer on the list.
  4. I just got a 360 and am hoping to get my original Xbox games working. Thus far, only Halo will play. I tried Deathrow, Quantum Redshift, and Black Stone, but they won't run. I did think they were on the compatible list. This is a used console, so I don't know if maybe I am missing an update of some kind.
  5. I'll be looking into trying a mod if I can manage it. I suppose I might buy a 360 as well to take advantage of backward compatibility with some of my games.
  6. Can you direct me to a part number for the laser lens assembly so I can get started on planning to repair the drive?
  7. Hello. I'm a new poster here. I have a 1.6 version xbox that has notoriously gone through phases where it gives the disc read error for any and every disc including audio cd. After giving up on the system for days or weeks, I can return to it and it suddenly reads all discs again. Most recently, it was not reading anything AND the sticky tray finally quit working, so I removed, cleaned, and replaced the belt. Not only did the drawer work fine, but it started reading discs again. So now, once again, trying to play Deathrow, the drive tried and tried to load the game, green light was flashing, then the disc read error appeared. At this point, when I try any disc, I hear three quiet "click" sounds from the drive when the tray closes, and the disc error appears very quickly. It's almost like it has switched to some default mode where it just "assumes" it won't read the disc. There is very little to no drive activity first, before the error appears. Is there some form of memory in the HDD that is forcing the error to occur without even attempting to load the disc? Can I somehow "clear" this memory? I am skeptical that the drive has failed, since as I said, it works brilliantly for long stretches of time until it just decides not to.
