About Me

  1. Recently found an xbox in my mother in law's basement and getting back into modding it as a hobby. Nice to be a part of the site.
  2. i found the new xbox360 dvd belts are a perfect match for the samsung drives on these og xbox's but i haven't found a good one for the thompson. anyone know of one?
  3. Hi there, Xbox owner since the latter days of the consoles life, still have my first owned box, shes a bit tired and needs some love, after running an old softmod for the longest time, I've decided to take the plunge and give it a refresh with some new software and a hardmod. I know I'm very late to the game but if I can breathe new life into my old machine I'll be happy! Just thought it would be good to pop my head up and say hey instead of being a serial lurker.
  4. Hi, New member here and will hopefully be a first time xbox owner soon A friend is sending me a mod'd xbox to add to my collection, I have never owned or done any mods to one before so lots of learning on the horizon for me. This seemed a good place to come for info and help if required so here I am! My friend has done a bios mod to it, removed the clock cap which I understand are suicidal on these and replaced the Drive band so that saves me some work He has advised that I need to get a Hexen disc which I believe I can download from here somewhere and after that I guess there's not much to do until it gets here and I can start tinkering One thing I would like to do and maybe you guys can point me in the right direction is change the main PSU. The reason being its a US console and I am in the UK, Obviously I can run it through a transformer to reduce it to 120v but I was thinking if I could find one it may be worthwhile swapping out the entire PSU for a 240v one. Is that possible? Anyways see you on the boards
  5. i, like many others, started having problems with my xbox after replacing the thermal paste. graphics glitching, freezing, frag'ing, and sometimes it would just go into a coma on me. it appears that the problem is that some of the solvent for cleaning the thermal paste gets underneath the gpu chip and causes a short. 1st off, i do not recommend replacing the thermal paste on these consoles but if u already have and are now having problems then here is how to fix it. get a bottle of 91% rubbing alcohol with a squirt top on it(i suggest a quart bottle), hold the motherboard on it's side, and squirt the alcohol all over it. be certain that plenty is going under the gpu. next, take a hair dryer and dry the board very well. be careful not to get it too hot. a good rule of thumb is that if any part of the board is uncomfortable to lay your hand on and keep it there, then it is too hot and should be allowed to cool. next, sit the board in the xbox, hook up the psu, connect a tv and power on the system a few times to be certain that it appears to be working before full reassembly. BE CERTAIN TO REAPPLY THERMAL PASTE AND HEATSINKS BEFORE POWERING ON! i'm not certain that it will overheat the chips without the heatsinks for a quick test but it isn't worth the risk. this fixed my xbox that i was concerned i had forever killed.
  6. i was ftp'ing games onto my new hdd when filezila suddenly error'd. when i went to check my xbox the dashboard said i have 0mb left(i had over 2,000gb on this partition) on e drive and games management said i only have 3 games installed. i deleted the games and the dashboard was saying i only have 3,000+mb's free. long story short, i kept messing around with trying to reformat the hdd and put about 1024gb on 2 partitions but the dash board would only show that i had a little over 3,000mb on each partition even the partition wizard was saying i had 1024gb on each partition. what the heck is wrong with this thing? i'm currently erasing the hdd in my pc and writing all 0's to it. then i intend to try it again but i have no idea if this gonna fix it. btw, i have an aladdin chip(5004 f and g bios), 80 wire ide cable, and 3tb barrcuda seagate drive.
  7. Hi, new to the forums. Happy to be here. Trying to learn as much as I can about the OG Xbox since I just recently bought one online that came modded already.
  8. Hi I'm new here. I have been collecting consoles for some time now new and old.. And I still have the most fun with my original Xbox. I have decided to mod it. To install backups mainly and enlarge the HDD. I've done a little research and seems simple enough generally. I came here looking for Hexen install disc image. Which I've found but doesn't seem to be an actual DL link.
  9. Yo, Inno here. 23, finally got an original Xbox after not having had it for, like, 16 years or so. It's nice being able to explore the library of the original Xbox after all this time. Hell, being able to hold the controller in my adult hands and actually play games with it is a neat experience. I'm not huge on forums, but we'll see if I finally have a forum that I can stick around in without losing interest. Here's hoping I poke back in here for as long as I play Xbox, which I anticipate is a long time to come.
  10. Upon bootup my xbox goes as far as to displaying the XBOX screen and then freezes there, if I try to eject the tray the screen goes blank and flashes for a moment before bringing back up the XBOX screen. I've received no error and have yet to put in a recovery disc
  11. HI, I bought the Halo 2 jewel from Chimeric system and would like to know if I must use super glue or is there another way to fix it nicely? The top case is ready with original jewel removed, I used sand paper and added a bit of spray paint to cover any scratches. Thanks,
  12. i don't know where the original is and that samsung belts seem to be slightly too big. anywhere know where i can get a new belt?
  13. Hi, new here. Hope to learn some tricks.
  14. Always been an avid game player about two weeks ago I purchased a original Xbox and decided to try to do some modding
  15. does anyone know where i can find those little things that hold down the plastic brackets?
  16. i found some new lasers for phillips drives and bought some. these were brand new because i had to desolder the esd protection solder points on it. i replaced the laser in a drive that would not work at all and now it is working. however, it won't read any disks that have any kind of serious damage. my old samsung and hitachi will play them fine but they have to be almost perfect for my phillips to read them. i have heard about how phillips turn the laser strength down in an attempt to prevent the from reading cd-r disks(fyi, i'm only trying to read official xbox disks). my question is, should i adjust the pots on this new laser so that the laser is stronger? i've heard that will shorten the life of the laser but i'm wondering if they were even turned up high enough in the 1st place?
  17. Greetings all, been into Xbox for a long time but only just getting back into it after a bit of a hiatus. Love modding them and doing case mods.
  18. Hi! I didn't know this forum until today, but I've been around the Xbox scene for lot of years. I hope I can help and learn from this community
  19. Greetings! DNA64 (aka viral_dna) and also known as `DNA` on the old #xbox and #xbmc IRC channels where I was an OP and Dev. I joined the scene before the release of the system which I picked up on launch day and immediately began disassembling and dissecting the console. Some of you may remember me, or know me from other scenes, I've been in a great many of them over the last 20+ years. I'm currently involved in the Classics systems that have been recently coming out. But the OG XBOX holds a special place in my heart, in fact, it's the only XBOX that does so. Sadly a great deal of my postings and guides have been lost after some of the best forums out there went under. I look forward to sharing some of my work with you here and possibly creating new guides for those looking for help.
  20. where is the best place to get roms to put on the xbox?
  21. any help i can get would be great . going to try softmodding for the first time

  23. I won't bore anyone with the standard, introductory post, other than to say thank you to everyone on this and other forum who has helped me with my xbox repair and softmod instructions.
