About Me

  1. Hey! I have an og xbox that sometimes refuses to do its job, hopefully i can fix it and also get into learning more about this console and play with it, and have a general good time on this forums.. Cheers!
  2. Please help! I have just installed an new 40gb ide hdd and a pc dvd drive (just to get my modded xbox to boot) I put the OGXBOX Cerbio installer dvd into the drive and it booted to the ogxbox menu It recognised taht i had a new HDD and asked if i wanted to format it which i did (i can now see C,E and F drives) I then flashed my alladin modchip v1.6 with the cerbios bio which worked. but when i try to install a dashboard off the dvd it just hangs and wont do anything, just says please wait and empty progress bars. This means the xbox wont boot unless the OGXBOX installer disc is in the drive as there is no dashboard. Have i missed something? What am i doing wrong Thanks in advance for any help.
  3. Hi all, I have recently acquired a hardmodded crystal 1.6 box from a popular online auction website, which has with a 200gb hdd. I opened it up and gave it a good lean as it was pretty disgusting! Literally spiders inside. It has an Aladdin XT hardmod, I don’t know when it was installed. Current dash is EvolutionX V+3935. I had a good poke around in EvoX settings, it states that it has unknown BIOS. Says the same in Xbox BIOS checker 5.0. I can’t see anywhere to backup EEPROM (I read that this is important) – do I need to do this? There are no options that I can find in EvoX that will allow me to backup. There are various apps, including XBMC, Avalaunch, etc. Should I just delete them? If so, how? The app ‘Xenium’ when loaded states “You have a Cloned Fake Xenium” – what does this mean? I assume that the BIOS is out of date and so is the dash. I read that UnleashX and Xbox4Gamers is the best combo to have. How can I update to these please? Thanks in advance all!
  4. Hey Why is the new cerbios - bios named "hybrid" and is it safe to flash to the aladin chip Reg Finn
  5. Hi (Didn't know a better place to post this) I'm new here, and.... I know basically nothing about modding, but I wanna softmod my system to start out, (1.6) and explore the option later of hard modding (probably on an older revision once I can find one) are there any resources you can recommend for me to get my head wrapped around how to start? I think I have everything I need to softmod now, but I'm still iffy on how all these launchers and stuff work. I'm sure this is ground that's been tread a million miles before me by other noobs, but there is just an overwhelming amount of knowledge out there and no particular place to start, I've watched a handful of videos on softmodding and understand basically how i'll do it, but there are so many variations of each tool/application etc that it's hard to know where to even begin. I'm sure this isn't much info to go off of but I'm pretty lost. After I dip my toes in with the soft modding I'd like to ultimately hard mod a different console, just any recommendations on good resources for absolute beginners would be much appreciated, thank you kindly!
  6. Has anyone seen this? After talking to a well known scene member he says its legit. up to 8tb hdd and .iso supported. From xbox scene forums: "This is a new custom bios with all existing and new features implemented by the team. While we may share some similarities that can be found in bioses such as config loading, custom colors etc, our solution will be different compared to all existing solutions. In addition new tools will also be released to take advantage of some of the features we have implemented. With our custom LBA support we now support hdds up to 8TB in storage size.No more 2.2tb limitations and file corruption.***8TB size limit may be expanded upon again in the futureMore info will be made available in due time Everyone loves a little ISO in their life. So why not add it natively into our bios.No more patching Bioses with hacky ASM, Diskutilities, Dashloader or Nkpatcher. With Cerbios just boot your console select your favorite game and enjoy endless hours of fun.Existing attach.xbe compatible.Check out the videos below of two problematic games working flawlessly as ISO and on 128mb hardware using Cerbios.https://emalm.com/?v=WU9GVhttps://emalm.com/?v=RNwC3But why should I use ISOs over HDD dumps?Well with our custom LBA support for HDD up to 8TB there is no excuse about not having enough space.ISOs do not have file length limitation like some HDD rip games do, so no patching or truncating of file names is required. All DRM checks pass as ISO (Harry Potter).More info TBA" Cerbios Alpha V1.zip
  7. I received a broken 2001 1.0 Xbox for free. I removed the clock capacitor, rerouted some trace rot. After that, it seemed to be working great besides terrible disc reading (even after a pot tweak). I ignored the often suggested thermal paste replacement thinking "don't fix what ain't broke" and bought a new laser, after all, I got the thing for free. It's working great as far as I can tell. BUT the lingering thought of thermal paste wormed it's way into my brain, after all, most people seem to suggest it (sometimes to do it just cuz). The combination of so many people suggesting it, and some of the counter-arguments to it on this forum made me pretty anxious about the whole ordeal. Especially after investing money into this. SO when does one know when, or if they should change the paste? I basically have the oldest OG Xbox possible, and it seems to work fine. I noticed the fan area in the back can get warmish when reading discs - but I've never had an xbox, and this could be normal. I haven't modded it, so I don't know its temps. Should I be worried? or bothered? Should I mod the console just to see the temps, just to be sure? Is the Xbox good enough at knowing when it has overheated to reliably leave it alone until theres a tangible issue? TLDR; I'm overly paranoid about my newly acquired 1.0 xbox, and don't know how necessary it is, or when I should replace the thermal paste. Thanks for any replies! It's much appreciated.

  9. i, like many others, started having problems with my xbox after replacing the thermal paste. graphics glitching, freezing, frag'ing, and sometimes it would just go into a coma on me. it appears that the problem is that some of the solvent for cleaning the thermal paste gets underneath the gpu chip and causes a short. 1st off, i do not recommend replacing the thermal paste on these consoles but if u already have and are now having problems then here is how to fix it. get a bottle of 91% rubbing alcohol with a squirt top on it(i suggest a quart bottle), hold the motherboard on it's side, and squirt the alcohol all over it. be certain that plenty is going under the gpu. next, take a hair dryer and dry the board very well. be careful not to get it too hot. a good rule of thumb is that if any part of the board is uncomfortable to lay your hand on and keep it there, then it is too hot and should be allowed to cool. next, sit the board in the xbox, hook up the psu, connect a tv and power on the system a few times to be certain that it appears to be working before full reassembly. BE CERTAIN TO REAPPLY THERMAL PASTE AND HEATSINKS BEFORE POWERING ON! i'm not certain that it will overheat the chips without the heatsinks for a quick test but it isn't worth the risk. this fixed my xbox that i was concerned i had forever killed.
  10. As title suggests... a new announcement was made today that the new xboxHD+ boards will no longer require project stellar to work. https://makemhz.com/products/xboxhd-legacy
  11. Hello Everyone, I am new to this forum and honestly to any forum of this type. I never really got into modding but have had the urge to do so now. Modern games dont do it for me. Either the constant attempts to take all your money, the games feeling repetitive, or beloved franchises being completely disrespected. I spent so much time complaining about games that i decided that i wanted to go back to a time when i actually enjoyed games. The orginal Xbox had every genre i could imagine and had many entries within the same franchise come out on it unlike what we see now where we are lucky to get one game in a franchise in a generation. Even though i played a ton of the original xbox there was so much i missed out on and i am looking forward to experiencing those things as if they were new. I am just glad i started my collection of games a really really long time ago and never got rid of them. Any good tips on where to pick up games where everything including the manual are intact but are not going to spend a fortune? Any recommendations on where is the best place to download games?
  12. There is a new program called Pandora by Team Resuegent You can use Pandora to browse and download files from xbins. No false positives anymore with auto-xbins and the windows virus scanner. It supports windows, osx and linux You can find the program here: https://github.com/Team-Resurgent/Pandora
  13. New splash screen. Several colors. splash.7z
  14. I found my old Xbox OG in a cupboard and decided I fancied getting it out and playing some old games I had. It boots up to the old dashboard I had (Avalaunch 0.49.3) and games play etc. Reading the latest on the new features of the Xbox OG Modding scene, I see I can now put much bigger HDDs into it as well as some other features such as Cerbios CCIs etc. I'd like to update my BIOS but I can't get into XeniumOS (XOS) to flash the Cerbios .bin - The OpenXenium BIOS utility by MakeMHz says I am on an older version and need to be on 2.5 at least, but I cannot get there either. I've read that powering on with Eject can reboot to XOS or holding the white button (small problem that I don't have the original controllers anymore and am using a Brook Wingman XB2, so maybe that prevents the white button [Left Trigger] being detected at startup). Its such a long time since I did all this I have forgotten everything I learned back when I modded it LOL My aim is to have all my games on a single HDD and use xbmc4gamers|xbmc-emustation as a nice menu system to choose.
  15. I purchased an XT+2 from AliExpress with the purpose of reprogramming it for XBlast purposes (RAM upgrades n such), but I found that this chip I purchased included an NPN transistor on the D0 line to properly drive it (rather than using the pin on the Lattice CPLD directly). The Jafar chip uses this same method albeit using a MOSFET of some description but the effect is the same. This seems like a new development, I haven't seen anyone else have a chip like this and I imagine most of the new ones produced going forwards will be this way. But it shows that the producers are taking steps to bring the modchips forward into the modern day. Here is a closeup of the board, you can see the added transistor.
  16. So I pull this thing apart, and this is the solder job I see on an X3, no less: Fuck. @fox Old faceplate... New faceplate, with salvaged switch panel and a piece of double sided tape cut to size since the switch panel was being held on to it's front panel with a piece of fucking tape. I'll remove the clock cap, and redo the soldering job. May do a 128MB upgrade as well, since I have no control panel for this one.
  17. OK, new modder confused here. I've been spending my time fixing up dead and half dead boxes, and thought I'd see how setting up a new hard drive works with a hardmodded console. I used the OG Xbox Install disc to TSOP to Evox m8+ nodvd, wiped the stock HDD and installed UnleashX and the default apps, and it boots fine. However, now when I swap a different drive to set up (either a 10GB drive from another Xbox, or a WD 80GB drive) the box fails to boot from DVD. I've tried with two different DVD drives, but it's always the same... even the seeking sound the optical drives make are the same (they keep going forever in an identical repeating "pattern" until I switch the console off - no, not impatient, waited for 5-10 minutes). When I switch back to the original HDD, the system boots up fine from it, and also boots from the DVD drive - and the DVD drive sounds "healthy" again compared to previous attempts. I tried powering the bigger new HDD with an external power supply, since I noticed it was pulling more power on the 12V rail (thinking maybe the old PSU is just at its end), but this makes no difference. I've also tried jumpering the drive to cable select and master+slave, but still nothing. The original drive is a Seagate, both replacements were WD. Is there something I've overlooked?
  18. hi so rather that downloading the massive version i opted to add stuff to the lite version only problem is when i added say n64 or psx roms/isos to the correct folders it doesn't reflect in coinops what am i doing wrong?
  19. Hi am new here and to xbox modding. I would like to request respectfully that people doing modding tutorials especially youtube please think of us noobs by 1 think of person tutorial geared towards and if possible do different or modded stages tutorials ie: noob, novice, experianced 2 proper instruction from beginning to end no off in another tangent causeing confusion especially to noobs 3 clear and precise information, eg: this xbox has a chip name of but no hard drive, new hard drive etc 4 proper working links if links are being provided. Thanking all you valuable people in advance
  20. Hi all, just checking in to let you know that a new theme was just wrapped up. If you use XBMC4Gamers you can download and drag/drop to your build. This theme (like the others i've done) will be found on the downloader. It's not there yet, but the files can be found here: https://github.com/Team-Resurgent/Resurgent-Skin-XBMC4GAMERS. On this build i added additional root/programs menu icons so hopefully will cover most of the categories you guys use. Folder names supported when you add source. 128MB Ram Apps/Applications Arcade Collections Dash/Dashboard/Dashboards Demos Emulators Games Homebrew Movies PC Games Ports (uses same icon as PC games) Proto/Prototypes Ram Xtras (uses same icon as 128MB Ram) Vault (uses same icon as Collections) here is also a video preview for you.
  21. Hi all, First of all, I'd like to thank Rocky5 and all involved in the softmodding tool, that really is a painless way to softmod. 18 years ago I was reading unofficial magazines on Xbox mods and was baffled by all that's possible and I'm glad I can start doing similar stuff thanks to you! I'm seeking help in the following problem, I posted this on Reddit but maybe you guys will have a better idea of what's going on here. I have seen several topics with the same problems over different boards but have yet to find a solution. I hope you guys don't mind. I've been stuck on this for the past few days. I'm trying to clone my hard drive (Seagate ST310211A, the 10GB one). I've tried using a WD3200AAJS, which was listed as working on x-pecs by multiple accounts, but haven't had luck as it returns Error 11 (missing/malfunctioning dvd drive). I know for a fact the drive is fine because when I plug everything back together with the stock drive, the console boots properly. Now, the WD is rated for 0.68A at 5v and 12v, so I looked up the current rating for the stock Seagate, which is here : Since the WD was quite a bit higher I took another hard drive I had lying around (Hitachi HTB-DS7AE100(B) ). Now I hadn't seen anything telling me this drive would be lockable or anything but I gave it a try nonetheless. Chimp recognized it fine and the clone went smoothly and it locked okay. The drive is rated for 0.42A for both 5 and 12v, so I thought it'd work better now. Still no luck as I get error 11 again. I do have a new 80 wire 40 pin cable, and am using the startech adaptor. The cable works fine with the stock drive, and the startech adaptor has good reputation, so I'm really at a loss here. Jumper switched back from slave to master (forgot it once and had error 7 this time). Can it be the hard drive drawing too much current and not leaving enough for the dvd drive? Dvd drive tray opens and closes even with error 11, everything's plugged in tight. I'm really at a loss here so any help is greatly appreciated, even if it's just 'buy this HDD, it works fine with the startech adaptor' !
  22. https://www.retrorgb.com/retro-fighters-wireless-xbox-controller.html Pretty cool they’re finally releasing wireless controllers for the XBOX. It seems a pretty good controller and cool to see that hall sensor sticks becoming more the standard. Pre-orders are open between 15th March til April 1st. Shipping is in October. I’m grabbing a pair
  23. Hello everyone, Sorry if this is in the wrong place but as the title says, I'm relatively new to the OG Xbox, it's an awesome console but seems to be pretty complex as well. I have a softmodded 1.6 Xbox. The first issue/question I have is when I turn the console on, it boots in 4:3 and SD even though it's connected with a Chimeric HDMI adapter, also in some guys like 007 Nightfire, it's pretty blurry almost like it's running in SD, is this an issue with 1.6 Xboxes? If that is an issue with 1.6 consoles, whether it's because of the Xcaliber encoder or whatever, what is the best revision to use on HDTV's with HDMI adapters like the Chimeric one or the Xedusa? Thanks to anyone who can help!

  25. Name is subject to change. This uses the LPC port (no rebuild or soldering necessary). Current state, it can backup your eeprom (eeprom.bin) to SD and/or write an eeprom.bin to your eeprom. hoping to have it decrypt the eeprom and give you plain text Xbox keys (for insignia registration when manual registration is released) or to just keep as a backup in case a corruption or hdd failure POC Video thoughts?
