About Me

  1. Hi guys, first time posting here. So, I live in Brazil and the OG Xbox never got sold here. Recently bought one with a defective 110V PSU to attempt to repair and have currently reached a dead end trying to solve it. What I currently have is the following: ===PSU's PRIMARY SIDE=== - First filter cap (the really big one near) has a reading of approx. 170V. - When powering off, the voltage drains off filter cap normally. ===SECONDARY SIDE=== - No bulging caps, haven't recapped. Shorted VSTB to POW-ON to test and got the following: - 3.27V on VSTB to POW-ON, which I understand is what is needed. - 3.16V on VSTB to VS, which I think is low. - 5.3 on DNA1002D's pin 1, which I'm not sure is supposed to be that high. - 13.5V on the HV end of the optocouplers and little to nothing on the other end, which I think is wrong. - nothing on the pins for 5V nor 12V when shorting VSTB to POW-ON My best bet is the voltage is off on the secondary part of the PSU, maybe because of a faulty transistor or resistor (haven't found the fault) and POW-OK isn't triggering the feedback circuit, but I'm not entirely sure. I'm an amateur at best and know I shouldn't be attempting to repair a PSU with little knowledge, but am taking every precaution possible. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
  2. I bought this modded big boi in 2005,here is the problem,in original Fable The Lost Chapter if i try to load save state my game will just freeze which will force me to restart xbox, game runs fine without loading save states, saving is also okay. Same problem occured in Call of Duty:Finest Hour, loading next map will almost always led to freeze, after restarting xbox map loads fine. Worst problem was in Kotor 1,xbox would just refuse to continue gaming after cutscene in the the Star Forge. I have EvoX if that matters.
  3. I'm bringing up my console collection to the modern ages... Or at least trying to keep them from wasting away in a pile of leaky capacitor fluid. I have a 1.4 OG that was modded with a Xenium Blue chip. Original HD, DVD, etc. Just modded to turn it into a media box back in the day. Prior to the restoration, I would get an initial green light, then flashing red light constantly. I've recapped the entire system, reflowed the LPC to the Xenium, and verified continuity. There was slight corrosion under the clock cap and a few of the CPU caps had bulged. Post-rehab, I can boot initially to the XeniumOS 1.0 menu. I have two old BIOS images available along with "Original BIOS", however when any of the options are selected the eject button LED goes from solid green immediately to a flashing red light. Two spin-ups of what I believe is the DVD drive, no video, no audio. Flashing red continues until a single press of the power button shuts down the system. Eject button works during this time. Component A/V cables will not work display the XeniumOS menu, but RCA cables will. I've seen another post on reddit discuss an EEPROM failure as the potential cause, and I'm starting to think that's most likely it. In the EEPROM tools section, the Game Region is "INVALID!" and cannot be flashed to another region. Before I go down the rabbit hole of procuring another EEROM, flashing, and reinstallation I wanted to see if anyone here had any other thoughts on the issue. I appreciate any insight you folks may have. Thanks!

  5. Good evening, I'm trying to fix an xbox that I've bought online that states the "Your Xbox requires service" with no error code everytime I try to play a game. Weirdly there is one game that I'm able to play. A crappy demo CD with a few games, and I can only play the FIFA 2005! The xbox was unopened when I bought it and I already managed to debrief a few things, the DVD player is fine, the IDE cables that connect the DVD to the motherboard also seem fine (tested the dvd power connector for continuity on each pin). Since I'm able to use the main dashboard I can also access the hard drive, it lets me erase save's , so it seems that the xbox is able to read and write on the HDD. At this moment I'm not sure what to explore further , nothing too weird on the motherboard too, all caps seem fine. PSU doesn't seem to have any trouble too.. Any ideas? I'm lingering towards something in between the PATA and the MCPX.. but it seems like a longshot. Thanks in advance!
  6. Hello everyone. I’ve modded a few Xbox 360s and want to take on the task of modding an original Xbox. I see a really good priced xbox but it’s in PAL format. My question is if I mod it with a stellar chip and HDMI+ will the console output in 1080i? I know the PAL format doesn’t support it. I know if I mod the console it won’t be region locked so I’ll be able to play ntsc games on it. If play NTSC games on the PAL modded system with HDMI will it support 1080i? Thanks for the help.
  7. I bought a modded xbox a few years ago and I really enjoyed it. I got it out to test recently and it stopped working. Got a flashing red light on the power button and got this error message with a white number in the corner. Most of the time I tried it was a 12 but I got 7 a few times. Is there any way to fix this?
  8. In this well descripted analysis, Markus Gaasedelen has managed to successfully dump the console's secret boot ROM by intercepting the Intel CPU's JTAG functionality with a custom made adapter. Its amazing to see discoveries appear here and there to this very day in 2023, since this can open the full capabilities of the hardware to many hobbyists and hardcore developers. Detailed explanation can be found here: https://blog.ret2.io/2023/08/09/jtag-hacking-the-original-xbox-2023/
  9. Mainly the titel says it. I git a 360 today (pls don't throw old eggs at me for that :D ) which included a 512MB and a 256MB MU and i wonder if it would be possible to get one of those working on an OG XBox. Looks like both have a 5 pin design so there can't be that much of a different (except for the little "spacer" in the middle)?
  10. Hello, I have a chipped Xbox with all the goodies: FTP access, 2TB hard drive, XBOX4gamers as default, etc... I'm the original owner and I never connected it to Xbox Live! I would like to connect it to Insignia but I believe that my dashboard needs an update... My dashboard version is 4817 How can I install V2 Xbox Live for Insignia? I already have an Insignia registration! THANK YOU! and have a good weekend! Also, my XBOX4gamers version is 1.2.122 and I can FTP to it but when I click the URL downloader updater is says no network access but I'm sure that it's connected to the internet! I just want to update the game trainers! any way to do that manually? Thanks again!
  11. I am mostly making this post to see what the best option is for me to enjoy my xbox for a much longer time. Like if my problem is the disc reader, but there are other options to get around even using it in the first place, I'm very open to it. I got a used Xbox a while ago but over the past few months I've been having to reboot games just to play them, and now it's to the point where the console can't even read them. The disc looks fine, but obviously it could not be fine. However, I think it's the drive itself. I've thought about just replacing the disc reader so I can use my games again, but recently I've been looking at mods and I'm curious about a few things. I think it's best for me to show my desires and then get a suggestion on what to do. I am willing to pay any price to keep enjoying the games I love, so cost is a non-issue. But I don't know much about what a modded Xbox is capable of. There's so much info on here, it's hard to digest. All I want is to play Corvette Racing and Sonic Mega Collection Plus. That is my only desire. Is there an Xbox mod where I can avoid using the disc reader and have the games on an SSD or hard drive? How can I verify that the disc reader is the problem, and it's not my discs? I have like ten games and they all give me the same error when I put them in, so I am leaning towards that the Xbox itself may be the issue. It would be cool to easily get more games or just use the discs to download them to whatever storage thing I have on the console. Then I can easily change games without having to get up and put in a new disc and I don't have to rely on a disc reader or having a scratched disc. Is this a thing or am I crazy?
  12. The xbox dvd drive is SDG-605B version B it scratches discs. Refer to discScratches.JPG the scratches are not circular. I am trying to pin point the root cause of the damage. The xbox must of been dropped. The optical pickup head must be causing the scratches but I don't see any raised sharp edges that would cause those marks. The dvd drive reads both cd's and dvd's but they get damaged in the process. The xbox original is TSOP so the only use I have for the drive is formatting the hdd. I thought I would disassemble the dvd drive and compare it to an identical drive. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1B0_VHvgu-ACzN3azkw6Aq4r6GdUQbuLW?usp=drive_link A.JPG is the dvd drive scratching discs B.JPG is a reference drive identical to A.JPG
  13. Hi Guys. Stumbled across this beauty last week and i forgot i owned this. Shall i... Or shall i not.. still works perfectly however concerned about the clock cap itself. Is this a gem i should not tamper with or should i rip its guts out and get modding. I am torn here...!!!
  14. Into quite a bit of a mystery here. Sold a fellow a modded Xbox and he traded in an old busted Xbox to save a few bucks so now I'm trying to fix it. When turned on the Xbox turns off pretty quickly but then restarts immediately, then the same again, turns off and then back on a third time and then stays on and shows flashing orange and red lights (the odd time it will flash red and green just to deepen the mystery). Googling the problem results in many ppl saying it's an 'av pack' issue if the av cable is not the problem but the restarting thing tells me it's more likely a PSU issue or a bios/mod-gone-wrong problem. Pulled everything apart completely, thought I found the problem with a burnt contact point near the plugin. Re-flowed all 4 points just to be sure and no difference at all. Kept googling and found a few encouraging leads including this url https://www.xbox-hq.com/html/xbox-tutorials-163.html#xboxerrorcodes1 and tried jumping that wire from the lpc pin 5. No f*ckin' joy. Also just a side note - the lpc vias are all plugged with solder (see pic) indicating that a modchip was removed at some point. Also I checked the solder points for the Xbox 1.0 TSOP and it looks like they've been done also - but the guy said he never modded that one. Thing is, the further into this I get the more convinced I am that this unit is fixable. Most people will just say eff it and chuck it or whatever but I really like to save old things if at all possible. I have included a pic of the wire I jumped (yellow wire) from the lpc pin 5 as the url tutorial suggested. The same pic also shows a mysterious blue wire that was here before I opened it. Asked the dude about the blue wire and he said no idea, never modded that one. In some of my Googling I found a post saying something about a D0 wire or DO wire described as a 'modchip enable wire', maybe this could be it? Any ideas about how to move forward or what the blue wire is for would be great, my thanks go out to anyone who has any ideas that might help,
  15. I have just found an Xbox v1.1 during a unit clearance so I have no idea of the history. The unit powers on for a few seconds and powers down again, it is flashing just orange and the fan is at full speed. The 5 3300uF caps by the power supply connector have been swapped but no other signs of soldering that I can see on the LPC port or anywhere else. It had a leaking battery cap but only minor. I have removed it, washed the corrosion of with vinegar and then isopropyl but no change. I can't see any broken traces and I have belled the long traces underneath on the front edge (I have read these area common failure) but they are OK. The advice online seems to be that it is a mod problem. Clearly it hasn't been hard modded. It may have a softmod gone wrong so perhaps putting in a modchip might be a good idea so the XBOX has a known working BIOS. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks...
  16. Greetings, I am encountering a problem on Xbox. The Xbox app does not detect the gaming service. I have no idea what could be he issue. Could anyone please help?
  17. Trying to rip my DVDs using a 2nd hand BenQ I picked up from eBay and flashed with 0800. XBBC recognizes it and unlocks it successfully but whenever I try to read the disk it crashes after reading ~500kb. No error, it just closes. Anyone can maybe give a few clues? Thanks.
  18. Requirements: Single CAT5 ethernet cable. PC with an ethernet port. Xbox console. Configuring the network adapter: Connect one end of the ethernet cable to your Xbox and then the other end on the back of your PC's ethernet port. Go to 'Network and Sharing Centre' and select the first current Wi-Fi connection. Select 'Properties' > 'Sharing' and check the box labelled 'Allow other users to connect through this computer's network'. If there is more than one connection in the drop-down list, then select 'Ethernet' and click 'OK' twice. Next, select the ethernet connection. Select 'Properties', check the box labelled 'Internet Protocol Version 4' then select properties. From the properties window, make the following changes: IP address: 192.168.0.1 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Default gateway: 192.168.0.100 Once you've made the following changes, click "OK" twice. Download WinSCP or FileZilla, any client will do, which will be used to connect to your Xbox. Setting up network configuration on Xbox: (This section will only be focusing on setting up FTP for UnleashX, your dashboard may follow a different setup). From the UnleashX dashboard, select 'Xbox Admin' > 'System' > 'Settings' > 'Network'. Make the following changes in the 'Network' section: Type: Static IP address: 192.168.0.2 Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.0.100 DNS 1 & 2: 0.0.0.0 Press 'B' once, when you are asked if you want to make changes to the configuration, select 'Yes'. Go back four times using the 'B' button, then scroll down and select 'Reboot'. Once the system reboots, the new static IP address will show up in the bottom-right corner of the screen. Connecting to your Xbox: To confirm that everything works, open up the FTP client of your choice that you have installed. Enter the IP address of your Xbox, set the port to '21' and click 'Connect' or something similar in your client. When asked for both a username and password, the defaults are 'xbox' (no quotations).
  19. More precisely, fix the executable that loads poorly GPU-rendered images at 720p?
  20. Can XBOX games be read in RAR format or do they need to be ISO format in order to transfer over by QWIX? OR can they be transfered over in another way to FTP and keep in RAR format and the XBOX can read it?
  21. Hello, yesterday I was using XBPartitioner 1.3 to edit the partitions, but the tool was on the HDD and I wasn't using the HeXEn Engineering Disc. After i rebooted the Xbox it gave me error 16. I tried burning the files for the HeXEn disc but it wouldn't boot into anything and just kept giving me the same error. Earlier today I tried to connect the HDD to my PC and it gave me a password screen for the drive. I tried both passwords from the hddinfo.txt I have from my backup of the drive but it didn't work and said "HDD is locked." What should I do now?
  22. Hello where can i find xbox isos, i know vimm.net but it's it any other good sites out there.
  23. Hi, I have an Xbox which I believe is 1.0 (fan on the GPU). It's one I've had for a while and used to be working, I had it softmodded and at some point it stopped working so I just put it in a cupboard and used a different one. Recently I thought I'd try to fix it. When I opened it the clock cap had of course leaked, but the corrosion didn't seem too serious. I removed it and cleaned up with no change. The symptoms are as follows: On power on, green light, it shuts off almost immediately, tries again, turns off again, on third boot it stays on and the light flashes green/red rapidly Optical drive won't open No video output No change when IDE devices disconnected I have tried a PSU from a known working system with no change, and cleaned the board thoroughly with IPA. Does anyone have any other suggestions that might help me out with this? Thanks!
  24. I got a lockable hard drive I wrote the Xbox dashboard files to the hard drive but when I tried to lock it and then put it back in my Xbox .my Xbox came up with error six so I checked the hard drive password again and they were the exact same.
