if you boot into unleashx dash, you could also check input function with a keyboard and usb to xbox adapter
-
So you have only booted into xblast and gentoox, not the normal MS Dash, or Unleash, ect? If I remember correctly, xblast, and gentoox are very picky with controllers and prefer OEM one's

I wonder if something similar could be done for the communicator?

Definitely seems doable. I wonder if something similar could be done like what was done to get the ps2 eye toys working on the Xbox

It'd be great if we could come up with some kind of diy solution, like using usb headsets. My software skills are not there yet or I'd try something like that.

Xbox 1.0 Boots 3x then Red and Orange flashing lights, can it be saved?

Have you tried booting with the dvd drive and hdd unplugged? It may not hurt to completely remove the mobo and check the underside and possibly post a picture here. The metal shielding shows signs like its seen a good amount of moisture of some kind -
If you've given up on that box, I'd suggest seeing if someone else in the scene wouldnt mind buying it off you or paying for shipping ect, never really sure what people value things at lol

There has to be some mis-match on the software level I'm thinking. Seems like it's trying to talk to something, and it's not getting the expected response. Reminds me of smc issues on the 360

1.3 Has No Power, Potential Catastriphic Damage?
jjjwelch replied to infernal_byte's topic in Repair
I just came across this thread and was going to tell you to check the psu. I have gained many boxes from bad psu's. For future reference, always check the joints on the power inlet on the psu, the joints have a tendency to crack and become an open circuit\poor contact. -
Isn't the cerbios 2.3.2 still in alpha? Are you using it because you have an hdmi mod? Maybe give 2.3.1 a try if your not using hdmi. I could be missing something here, but I figured it can't hurt to try.

You may be correct on assuming its the capacitors, that has been associated with video flickering you mentioned. You also mentioned it had been tsop'ed and you couldn't update it. The previous owner may have un-bridge the read/write points for the tsop after they flashed it.

Take another look at the ram. It can all test good, and there can still be a slight issue somewhere

Inspect the psu also. I've received boxes where the solder joints were cracked on the power in connector and the psu just wasn't getting power
