  1. Hmmm, if your power supply was already on its way out, i'll keep my fingers crossed in the hopes that a new one may fix your issue... Although i can't imagine why it really would from a technical standpoint. I've seen weirder things happen though!
  2. I guess with a tool like that, filesystems are irrelevant. Just raw data. That thing's fuckin rad.
  3. I'd say chimp. Ftping 1tb of files sucks and will take days.
  4. When I enable 720p in the launcher, shit howdy it looks nice, but its being stretched to widescreen... And I HATE that. Anybody know a way to force 4:3?
  5. Good info, dave. I have personally always been bothered by the fact that the xbox never had a ground. Always seemed like a stunning oversight. And i've had ground loops in my audio with my component to hdmi converter and it drives me nuts!
  6. Right on, man. Glad to hear it.!
  7. That was actually one of my first thoughts... But i assumed you had already checked. Lol. Well, now we know why its shutting down. Now we need to know whats up with the fan. Hopefully it's just the fan motor and not the power going to it.
  8. Good point. That board still needs to be inspected though. Alfredo, it's impossible to give a solid answer. A failure could happen in numerous places causing various outcomes. Hopefully a look at the board will give us some clues,
  9. I was gonna suggest a new box, but i wanted to see if we could save it if he has any sentimental attachment to it. Also, if we figure it out, it may help people googling similar symptoms in the future.
  10. nah. It doesn't work like that.
  11. While its open, take a nice, high res pic of the whole board. Get as close up as you can while getting the whole thing in frame. But also a close-up of the clock cap. Please.
  12. You may be dealing with trace rot. Could you take a pic of the area around the clock capacitor? That water combined with that cap fluid may have fucked your shit up.
  13. Also, i would clean the components and contacts on the board with alcohol in case there are any shorts. Are any of the cable ends corroded? Was the console totally submerged?
  14. @alfredo2 I could be wrong, but i dont think you have anything to worry about. There's no reason for any surging. Also, i'd swap a different power supply into that box and see if that remedies your shutdown problem.
  15. There you go niko. Try soldering to the end of that trace. If he bypasses the break in the trace, it shouldn't cause a problem, right? Unless it goes somewhere in addition to the lpc? Good find with the trace diagram, sweet.
  16. Sorry man. Didn't mean to be a dick before. Are you the one who did the soldering? If so, i would take it to somebody who is used to doing stuff like this. Have them repair the trace and then complete the lpc rebuild. I know you may want the satisfaction of doing it yourself but you dont wanna' destroy your box. Or, just get a 1.0-1.4 xbox on ebay for like, 20 bucks, solder the pin header into the lpc and the d0 and be done.
  17. Dude, I feel you on the comma shit. I was recently in a situation where there was no internet or networking but I had all my discs with me. I was trying to pull a bunch of genesis and snes roms off the discs that me and a friend wanted to play, and I was getting so incredibly pissed because almost all the ones we tried had filemames that were either 40,000 fucking characters long or used like 15 commas to separate every god damn continent a single cartridge ever touched... Or BOTH. ... I updated my discs after that, just in case. I have enough stress in my life, man. Anyway, glad it worked for you! That tool is a godsend.
  18. That's unfortunate. That openxenium is looking better and better.
  19. Got it. Thanks for the info. Why on earth are there such strict hardware requirements for the flasher?
  20. I guess if he wants to keep the chip and has the means to flash it reasonably easily, then I would still at least use the m8 bios to bypass the error 16. It just seems like he's got enough difficulties/obstacles to deal with already. Just trying to provide an alternate solution. Didn't mean to ding the xbit. Although I'll admit that I'm unfamiliar with it. Must've come around before my time, so to speak. Edit: After a bit of research, it seems like people have a LOT of difficulty getting the xbit software to interface with the chip...even with the right setup. Id rather stab myself in the eyes. Lol.
  21. Christ on a camel. That soldering job makes me want take a shower. That is some thick-ass gauge wire. Anyway, if that trace is severed, you're gonna have to scrape the coatings off both ends and solder/bridge the gap... Preferrably with much smaller wire. If you are unable, ask a local guy who can solder. No biggie.
  22. I would just get a new modchip that you can boot into and flash over the network, like an openxenium preflashed with xeniumos, and then flash the newest m8 .67 bios. It'll ignore the dashboard clock disagree you're dealing with, save you a lot of headaches and get you rolling.
  23. I believe xbmc has an ftp feature that can be enabled that automatically truncates filenames and makes them suitable for fatx on the way in. settings, network, servers, "auto fatx limiter". Also, look into a pc tool called "fatx file renamer". It'll rename a batch of files all at once. Looks to be exactly what you need.
  24. I think that if i settle on a particular group of settings, i won't have to worry about CL so much. I think I'm more into it just to be seen if it can be done or made to happen, even if just proof of concept. It would be pretty neat.
  25. I hear you. X2 5035 will probably end up being the practical option.
