A lot of the chips were like this inc Duox, Aladdins etc. Wasn't a concern for small boards... for example even Xecuter had a 'wire install' kit with the chips to stick it over to the xbox shield in the day. Yeah I remember that. I installed an x3 in 2004 and I remember going, "what the hell is THIS?" I thought at the time that somebody was insane for wanting to do this, but seeing what the chip's positioning was on the motherboard, it really wasn't that bad an idea to relocate it.
