About Me

  1. I am having some issues with a system I am working on hardmodding, and I'd like to save the system if possible. The issue: I have a 1.0 OG Xbox console where the controllers do not work History of this project: This console started off as a non-working console on Ebay that had never been opened. It had hard drive issues so would give an error code 8 on boot. I was able to install an aladdin mod chip, and throw in a new formatted drive an boot into xblast and gentoox to try to flash cerbios. Xblast did not recognize the mod chip, so I tried gentoox also. My controllers do not work in either dashboard. I have an original controller from ebay that was advertised as working, as well as a cheap 3rd party controller from amazon. I do not have another Xbox, so its possible neither controller works. What I have tried so far: All 4 controller ports (If that even works in those dashboards) re capping the motherboard replacing the daughter board (1.0) and controller ports checking traces for continuity near the clock capacitor (there was a bit of leakage but not really any damage), near the controller headers, and general spot checks My question is, what would you try next? I would really like to save this console, but I am running out of ideas on how to repair it. Any advice/insight/knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
  2. Just in case you didn’t know this existed… works great and is functional on Insignia!! https://consolemods.org/wiki/Xbox:EyeToy_Mod_Guide I reprogrammed my eeprom (on camera) so that I didn’t need to modify the chat app
  3. Hello, it's me again, now bringing the port of Sonic CD to the Original Xbox. For it to work, you need to place the game assets in the same folder as the .xbe. There is more information on the github page. The next Retro Engine ports (v4 and v5) should take a little longer to come out, as I need to rest a little and focus on other points in my personal life, but I promise it won't take long to return with the ports. https://github.com/danielgpinheiro/RSDKv3-xbox
  4. I recently acquired this Xbox with a 1.0 board and wanted to try and repair it. After opening it up and cleaning it, I noticed the clock cap hanging on by a thread so I plucked that off. I haven't done anything else to the console and the previous owner doesn't know if it was soft or hard modded. I still get the same error from when I first got it which is described in the title. Below I will attach some photos to show off the condition of the motherboard. Thanks in advance for the help!
  5. When I thought about the idea of starting ports for the Original Xbox, I had (and still have) the desire to port the decompilation of Sonic Mania (RSDKv5), but I saw that this would require an experience in ports that I don't have (yet). So I decided to go in baby steps, to gain experience, so I studied and made my first port for the Xbox, Celeste Classic (https://github.com/danielgpinheiro/ccleste-xbox) After this port done, where I learned a lot, I'm starting a series of Retro Engine ports, which will start from version 1 (which runs Sonic Nexus), next version 3 (Sonic CD 2011), version 4 (Sonic 1 and 2 2013), and version 5 (which runs Sonic Mania). The first port of this series is complete, which is the RSDKv1 for the Xbox, which runs the Sonic Nexus fan game. Who is interested, the link to the repository: https://github.com/danielgpinheiro/RSDKv1-xbox
  6. I have this listed on ebay for $850 but would sell on Paypal or Venmo for $750 since I wouldn't have to pay fees. The CPU is upgraded to a 1.26 GHz Tualatin, but it overclocks to 1.42 GHz without issue. See ebay listing here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/335333381339
  7. I have an unmodded japanese xbox (rev 1.0) with a dead HDD. I also have a working HDD from a USA xbox (rev 1.6) that has a softmod on it. If I extract the eeprom from the xbox with the dead HDD, can I use fatxplorer 3 to unlock the working softmodded HDD, then relock it with the extracted HDD password from the eeprom? Or would the xbox not read the new HDD because the model and serial numbers don't match the original eeprom? I've found one tutorial on how to setup the new HDD with the extracted eeprom but that tutorial uses a spare xbox and will format/clear the new HDD, which I do not want since it's already formatted correctly and has a lot of games on it. Any help would be appreciated
  8. I softmodded a series of XBox OGs in a marathon week but discovered an issue with model v1.6 and dualboot not working. All versions below seemed to work ok. Anyone else have this issue? Thanks
  9. XCAT v1.00 is now out and just waiting for you to start archiving your lost Xbox Live content and updates. I could do a whole writeup but why would I when it's all covered on Consolemods and RetroRGB. https://www.retrorgb.com/xcat-a-huge-win-for-xbox-preservation.html https://consolemods.org/wiki/Xbox:XCAT We have a support channel on the Xbox Scene discord where you can ask you have any questions or list any concerns. https://discord.gg/xbox-scene Download is available on Digiex.net or Xbins. Please check out the Unarchived DLC/TU list to see the simple list of what's missing. https://consolemods.org/wiki/Xbox:Unarchived_DLC Please go forth and Archive your content!
  10. Anyone know where to find the source code for the Xbox version of ScummVM? The last one I recall was version 1.4 or around there.
  11. I just finished my Xbox port of Celeste Classic so thought I would share. This is my first Original Xbox port, so it's not the best port, and it can have problems. https://github.com/danielgpinheiro/ccleste-xbox
  12. Is UnleashX purposely restarting when attempting to add icons to the Xbox games list, or is there a potential issue with the software causing this behavior?
  13. Hi everyone, new to the scene and the OG Xbox in general (had a 360 and One for many years). Bought an OG Xbox a few years ago for cheap to play some og Xbox exclusive games that are either not backwards compatible or are buggy on the 360's software emulation. I got as far as softmodding it to Rocky's v1.1.6 (this was in end of 2019 when I did this). Then I burnt the extras disc and my Xbox wouldn't read it. Then left the Xbox as is and did some other hobbies and life happened and put the Xbox in a closet for four years. Recently pulled it out and want to continue where I left off. My main goal is to upgrade the HDD to copy my games to the hard drive and play off it. To do this I need the extras disc to get Chimp onto my xbox. My Samsung drive, while sometimes is reluctant to eject the disc unless there is a disc inside, reads the games just fine. However when I burn the extras disc using Img burn (4x speed is the lowest I can go), using either the iso from Rocky's GitHub or the "Build XISO"bat file, nothing seems to work. So discs I tried where Staples CD-RW and Staples DVD-RW. Both of these where pretty scratches. So then I tried three times with Verbatim CD-Rs, flawless discs brand new no scratches, the Xbox still will not read the disc. Again, it's the Samsung Drive so it should be able to read CD-R. My next step is to buy a Verbatim DVD-R, Staples has a pack of 5 for $5.99. If that doesn't work the only way to do it would be I guess to FTP. Was wondering if a USB would work as well. Lost the generic 4gb 2.0.usb I used four years ago to softmod but ordered another one from eBay should arrive within a couple of weeks. But why is the extras disc giving me so much trouble? Can anyone chime in what I could be doing wrong? I also forgot to mention, I have a 1.6 Xbox produced in May 2005, TSOP is not an option, and I am not confident in my soldering abilities to install a mod chip hence the softmod.
  14. XBOX original dvd drive(sdg-605f) not working. Problem is with dvd drive capacitors. I dont know how to connect them. Please help me in understanding the capacitors connection. And 1 more thing is tht can I use other capacitos whose values are slightly c?
  15. Electric

    Noisy video

I've bought a v1.1 128mb Xbox from ebay years ago with an LCD. However the seller for some reason removed the bottom metal RF shielding. I wonder if there is a way to fix the video without buying a donor xbox (due to high shipping costs). More on the condition of the xbox: - Tsop flashed with a modified Xecuter X3 bios and I am afraid to change it. - It is a PAL unit (not sure on what psu) - Wasn't serviced except for clock cap removal and changed the HDD to a startech CF card adapter. - Changed to 80wire ide
  16. I’m no doctor but I think I might have diagnosed what was wrong with this one. It’s the worst that I’ve seen, but quite sure it’s pretty tame compared to what some of you have seen…so it got me thinking it might be a fun / gross discussion…what’s the worst condition you’ve seen…bugs, rodent remnants, fire, utter destruction. Share pics if you have them!
  17. I've written some firmware for the RP2040, thanks to a bunch of TinyUSB drivers created by Ryzee119 and the OpenStickCommunity, that supports pretty much anything the original OGX360 supports, apart from the 360 keyboard for Steel Battalion. On top of those I've added Sony Dualshock 4 and Dualsense support, and will be working on Switch Pro/Dualshock 3 once I get my hands on those. By default it's setup for the Adafruit Feather RP2040 USB Host board, but it can be compiled for the normal Pico as well, though that doesn't have a second USB port for your controller so you'll have to solder one to GPIO 0/1 (data +/-). The firmware can be compiled and used for - Original Xbox - Nintendo Switch - Xinput (not 360, due to the security chip) These are all the devices that are supported currently: - Original Xbox Duke and S controllers - Wired Xbox 360 controllers - Xbox 360 wireless PC adapter (clone and Microsoft, syncs 1 controller) - Xbox One/Series/Elite controllers - Dualshock 4 (PS4) - Dualsense (PS5) - 8bitdo v1 and v2 wireless adapters I've posted source code and compiled .uf2 files on Github: https://github.com/wiredopposite/OGX-Mini I'd also add that Playstation controllers are recognized by USB vendor and device ID, I'm not positive if there's a better way to do that, but those need to be manually added to the program to work. I need more of these IDs so if you're aware of some list somewhere, or your aftermarket Playstation 4/5 controller isn't working, just give me the VID/PID and I'll add them. I also need these for Playstation 3 controllers once I get around to adding support for those. This is the Adafruit board, no soldering is required for this, you just need a way to connect USB-C to your Xbox's controller port:
  18. Hello everyone. I have not done anything with my original Xbox 1.6b since I softmodded it over 15 years ago, and recently it stopped powering on. I've tried googling and researching, but the loss of Sickmods (and others that I probably don't know about) has made it difficult to find information. Attempts So far: Eject or power button does nothing. Replaced the 5 main caps that are known to leak (I'm pretty sure I did this 10 years ago as well, but had parts on hand so did it anyways) I have replaced the transistor near the clock cap (q7c2) I'm pretty sure its the power supply itself, (Its the Samsung Tuscany one) so I have been trying to modify an ATX supply to use to test. On the earlier versions of the XBox there are lots of information and adaptors, but not the 1.6b. The pinouts I have found for the 1.6 xbox (See below) show it needing 4 lines on 5Vsb, and only one standard 5V line: I'm pretty sure this is backwards, and it should be 1 standby line and 4 regular, can someone with more experience confirm? The other question is regarding the N64Freak adaptor board diagram: From what I have read the 1.6 uses 5Vsb instead of 3.3Vsb, can I omit the LM3490, the 33uf cap, and the link to the ground plane like so: Thank you in advance for any help you are able to provide, and if you have any good tips for a guy who is 15 years out of the scene, let me know.
  19. Hello, I have had a1.4 xbox with a duox modchip (v1) and I'm a little confused about how I can flash it. I bought this xbox pre chipped 15+ years ago and I've never touched anything past keeping exox dashboard updated. I took it out of storage after a good few years, I would guess I've not used it bar the odd nostalgic game session (It's part of a setup in my living room with an OG xbox a 360 and a series x on shelves) in around 10 years so I have no idea what the latest best things are. Also the xbox came with an 80GB hard drive installed. I have purchased a xbox-HDMI adapter (powered by usb) because my TV has 3 hdmi ports and that's it. literally nothing else. This works. I have an issue with my dvd drive in that the band need replacing, can't get more for a another 2 weeks. In the meantime is it possible to flash the chip without a disc? some places seem to say I must have a dvd and others allude to not needing a disk. I've been researching this for hours and just decided to ask on here. it works ok but I didn't flash the bios so I have never done it before. I was looking at increasing the capacity further but may need a bios flash. in avox settings the BIOS is unknown. So in short, what is the "goto" Bios and dashboard nowadays? Is it possible to do without a DVD drive? Could I do it by stripping the xbox DVD drive putting a disk in and reassemble? If I desperately need to? Bit drastic but I can't do anything for a few weeks. A bit of a bonus question. I had a game of FIFA 2003 last night and it played strange. Like it was sped up. Best description is like an emulator running at 1.5-2x speed. Some games don't boot. I don't know where to start with testing it. If anyone has an idea I'd appreciate it. EDIT: So I've backed up using evox. FTPd it to my PC. I noticed a bios folder. It has 3 files "EvolutionX M7 Bios.nfo" "EvoxM7_ef.bin" and "EvoxM7.bin" I can guess which previous version was. Can I just replace them and flash latest bios from evox launcher then?
  20. This is something I came up with to make reballing the interposers a little easier. Should fit most top sections of these reball jigs, might need slight massaging with a vile and/or sandpaper. this is for 1.6mm thickness pcbs, you could also fit pcbs in there that already have passives soldered onto them. incase you have to try and salvage a failed attempt at the mod. Xbox cpu interposer jig v5.stl
  21. I have a 1.6 revision board which shut down in the middle of using it. I have tested the PSU which is working correctly (have tried in another system also). I have traced the problem to this MOSFET - Q2F1 not outputting 5V.Can anyone guide me on a replacement? The numbers on it don't give me a good guide on an equivalent/compatible one.
  22. My other post was in the wrong sub, here's a fresh one. Sorry about that. There's a pre-v1.6 Halo Edition that just went up on the Arizona ShopGoodwill, with the matching controller. I'm not bidding on it, figured I'd let people know. There was one a few months back that went for over $500 on there. The prices for stock xbox's on that site have skyrocketed since last year. Used to be no more than $40 for a parts unit. https://shopgoodwill.com/item/190290748 Sorry about that, I'm new to posting to the site, I'll be more careful. But to tell if its a v1.6 or not, if the A/V port is all plastic, its not a v1.6.
  23. So I have a 1.6 Xbox that I softmodded with UnleashX few years ago and it's been great. Last week I was playing it just fine, got tired and turned it off for the night. Couple days later it wouldn't boot up at all, id hit the power button and it would attempt to boot for like half second then turn off. Opened it up to see 5 capacitors bulging on the bottom right of the motherboard under the CPU/GPU area. So I ordered replacement caps and installed them and now I'm getting a FRAG with no video output. I've been trying to diagnose for few days. I've swapped out the power supply with known working 1.6 PSU, I've tried swapping back to my original HDD from before the softmod all to no help. I've checked voltages at PSU connector, my issue seems to be the inductor (L2F1) isn't getting the 1.7vdc it should be getting from researching on this site. I've checked the transistor next to the L2F1 and getting 5vdc on one side and 1.7vdc on the other. I've checked the transistor (Q7C2) and getting 3.3vdc at the collector. Any help would be appreciated as I'd hate to make it a parts xbox thanks. Edit: I mightve connected a older revision PSU (1.1-1.4v) without noticing in a attempt to rule out power supply. But have since checked two different 1.6v PSU with no effect.
  24. can I use bridge of power supply outside classic xbox 1.6 . how can I use it with jamma .
  25. Hello Fellow XBOX Gamers. I am looking for the latest version of DOSXBox for XBOX and believe it might be v13 as seen in photos: DOSXBox 286/386 PC Emulator port for XBox v13. Forgive my ignorance but are we not supposed to mention GAMES or ROMS as I am looking for some place to find some GAMES 2 PLAY. Does any one know of such a place? Tanx.
