About Me

  1. Today I worked on taking apart controllers and cleaning them up. I figured while I was at it I would go ahead and take apart and clean up my remote power button and USB adapter mod too. I made this probably about 12 years ago. I took an Xbox Live communicator apart and replaced the circuit board with a simple breadboard from Radio Shack. I put a USB port where the volume knob used to be and a switch under the mute button. I modded my Xbox with the yellow wire remote power button mod so I wired up the switch as the remote power button. The nice thing about modding this communicator is that I can plug it into any controller and have a remote power button without modding the controller itself. It is also great for softmodding systems by plugging a USB drive directly into the communicator instead of making a USB adapter cable that I would have to search for whenever I work on modding a system.
  2. I have an xbox v1.6 that i had modded with the white X2 duo GS probably 12 years ago that worked flawlessly. Well i put it in storage and took it out maybe a year ago and the HDD died and i could not get it to boot from either of the banks on the chip, both just make it turn on and off. The xbox is softmodded now with a new HDD but i really want to get this chip working again. does anyone have any ideas to get a bios back on it or why it might have just died from not being used? i also have two other xbox systems, one of them v1.4 that i just did the tsop flash for the first time using this page and that worked great and i have another that is either 1.2-1.5 that is softmodded but not yet tsop flashed. can i use them to flash it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Not really an Xbox mod, but when I do v1.6 softmods a rigged ATX PSU comes in handy to clone your hard drive without having to power it from the Xbox. You can cut off the entire harness and wire up the two wires to a toggle switch rather than having a wire hanging. It also works well to test your LEDs before hooking them up! 3.3v, 5v, and 12v. Anyway. Enjoy!!
  4. Hello, I have xbox ver 1.6, delta power supply gives 4,3 volt instead of 5v and the same drive hdd does not start. 12 volts is ok Capacitors have been replaced, but they are still the same. Do you have any idea what to check. The capacitor is 5v but on the output is already 4,3 volts
  5. I have a board I wanted to get out there in the scene but right now I’m getting out of the Xbox scene so I’m just dumping all my board deigns - OXControllr is a baord that slips into the controller port and gives you full usb and a power button if you have done the power button mod OXControllr v2.zip 31BDF9E9-7C05-471B-AC92-47031FF3A7F3.MOV
  6. After cable recall, Xbox's still frying The fix isn't in By Andrew Orlowski, 19 Mar 2005 (TheRegister) 14 million games console owners are still at risk of waking up to find their Xbox has become an ex-box. For when Microsoft issued a safety advisory for Xbox customers last month, it failed to address the underlying problem. After several reports of consoles catching fire, Microsoft urged 14 million console owners to send in their old power leads for a replacement. But hardware experts point out that the power cable was never at root of the problem: it simply made the existing problem worse. The meltdown, and subsequent fire risk was actually caused by wear and tear on the power supply used in early models of the Xbox. The replacement cable featured a trip, which cut down the risk of your house catching fire, but left unfortunate gamers with a fried console. The cord has an interrupter switch that acts like a conventional fuse, tripping power to the unit. Microsoft's decision to limit its liabilities, rather than address the root of the problem, has led to a particularly bizarre situation. Customers who don't need to participate in the program are being shipped an identical cable to the one they've got. Microsoft last month advised console owners to unplug the Xbox from the mains, and claimed the risk is only 1 in 10,000. Ryan, an Xbox modder in Northern California who has disassembled the console, confirms that solder on two prongs holding the Foxlink power supply in place wear out. The problem affects versions 1.0 and 1.1 of the power supply. The design flaw was fixed in subsequent power supplies. I will pop open my case when I can, I know i have a Foxlink PSU
  7. I believe my Xbox is a 1.6 - it has the Xcalibur chip. Correct? I purchased a new power cable for the unit. It still does not power up. I ripped it apart and it looks like there is a short on the power supply board. Does anyone know where I can find one for sale for the 1.6? or how to fix this? Picture below. Hopefully the pictures are clear. What else could the issue be??? Your help is appreciated! I am planning to update and revisit this project from 10 years ago. Current Mods - SmartXX mod chip with 180gb HDD. (Nothing special)
  8. Curious question in a furious rush i harvested 2 ram chips off a working board, now id like to re-install these and get it working again because as far as i can remember this unit worked just fine prior. the replacement ram came from a friend with a broken console. one chip had 2 twisted pins which laid down pretty nice with gentle persuasion. now that they are installed (2 on the bottom) the unit will not power on? power button does nothing, any ideas how ram affects the power process? could this be a separate issue? very interested to hear thoughts/theories. the extent of my troubleshooting was testing a working consoles psu on this board which yielded identical results (power button does nothing, i can 'hear' the psu working there is a subtle discharge sound). i have 1 more chip to try in place of the twisted one. there are no bridges on the install and contact is made on each pad as far as continuity is concerned.

I have an issue with my Xbox. it seems that the power button is not functional. does anyone have a wiring diagram for that circuit or know what pins to read on the wire bundle?
