I got these, they were 1.27$ each. they only had 36" in stock but they are 80 conductor/40 pin cables.
-
also learned that the hard way. have you use many of these with success? any ideas on other adapters?
-
I've found most of the cheapos to be buggered. one in 5 actually work pretty well. Your initial load with the cheapo is super slow. I've had them booting faster than that... BUT you read my thread about it zapping a drive and ive recently received 4 that were completely totaled. They ruined a hard drive for me so im really nervous about ever using a cheap adapter ever again. Anyways, i didnt really inspect them until after the damage was done and they are all just horrifying.
-
i mean, in hindsight i guess i deserve a zapped drive... but shucks... i thought we were gonna be just fine!!!

BENNYG THESE LOOKING PROPER
-
NICE ONE BENNYG AND BOB BTW, I would trade you a black if you dont wanna catch any disapproval for painting a chrystal.... heheehhee ill throw in some cash. msg me

This is the kind of thing i was assuming would exist. not that its "off brand" but i guess these sort of solutions are not unique to XBOX
-
like this idea, good info, im going to take a stroll down that path. once i have everything apart ill have to start taking measurements and planning a few orders
-
ive seen this mentioned elsewhere... is now a bit obscure... other ideas? im sure the recommended products that come up under searching Iceberq Pro 4. would fit the bill... buuuuuut.... im not sure

SO!!! I am frustrated. I had been using the cheapo sata/pata converters (ordered several on reports that the odd one may fail), the first xbox i had worked fairly good for a number of months on one and seemed fine. Just recently a second Xbox found its way into my basement... the adapter didnt work well so i expressed this to the seller and i got new ones. Now... This is where it hits the fan. The next one fried an HDD, it went together powered up and the drive started to SMOKE!!! The motor ic chip on the PCB of the drive MELTED, i had just taken it out of a functioning desktop!!! OK, so on closer inspection of the other replacements are LOADED With corrosion!! The CAPS have let go aeons ago!!! the firsts sata connector crumbled when removed from the smoking drive (likely what caused the short) but looking at them they have corrosion all over the place Firstly i need to open facepalm myself till the cows come home for not inspecting these with a fine tooth comb p[rior to install, but christ.. i am the end consumer!!! Secondly.. WHAT THE HELL!!!>!>>!> Im out a drive and am probably entitled to a whole whack more of these bastards... id rather just go out and blast the rest of my HDD's with buckshot to celebrate new years!! so now im going from a 7$ solution up to the 32$ startech solution??? Is there no in between? HUGE DISCLAIMER HERE, THOSE GREEN PCB SATA PATA ADAPTERS.... FUCK IT, i got them from hottestdealsever on both amazon and ebay, they SUCK MEGA DONG and trust me, there is a real threat to losing a drive here, all you guys with big expensive drives heed my warning, these are really really bad. you would never think that the caps were blown out and the thing was this big of a mess. UNBELIEVABLE. . Anyone got any thoughts on this? any way to fix these up or are they just poor by design?
-
Any ideas for heatsink/fan combos that work well inside of a restricted environment? What is endgame in keeping a slimmed xbox running cool?
-

http://www.cablesalescanada.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=480_641_646 Ill let you know how these go... 36" on the way... lots of cable hope they are easy to shorten, and if not ill get fancy.
-
Thanks for that. I have them on the way from another vendor in 36" as well. Nice to know these will work.
-
-an opportunity to learn from people you'd otherwise maybe never be involved with Thanks KE I was hesitant to explore this avenue but basically assumed i knew what was going on with these cables. I'm sure i can fill in the blanks now with google. So in the end, even if the cable IS too long, and IS causing problems they can be shortened. Long cable FTW
-
KaosEngineer, thank you! Good info, I ended up getting 36" cables where i found stock. I read elsewhere that a longer cable is not necessarily a problem, can anyone confirm?
-
Looks very good! Nice work!
-
good advice, havent been clear on length for the stock case. it would likely still work tho? have you got any Canadian sources for 80 wire cables?
-
best source for 80-wire cable? anyone tried this sort of thing? https://www.ebay.ca/itm/18inch-Ultra-ATA-33-100-133-Dual-IDE-40-Pin-80-Wire-Black-Round-Cable-FI-R18K/280862414714?hash=item4164b4577a:g:jVsAAOSw~OVWznhE

I ended up getting it to stick by booting to the microsoft dash. boot with the disk drive ejected. when i changed it from there it seemed to stick. I used Hexen LXHDM option to "rebuild the drive" i guess it does like a full reinstall, works well. Try the way i did it? I use my gut when i navigating french. trying to think on a total translation would just sit me down. UnleashX was making it rather easy to find language settings.

ok! you did it, insight i needed. swapped IDE, first boot straight to XBMC. a bad ide cable and a i just kept overlooking it. very cool. Thank you!!!!!!
