Looking at that pic I wonder why you would dumb down a working chip and it's not even able to have extra bios banks Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

Yes it can but you are going to pull the Xbox apart again why not re-flash the bios and never need to lock a hard drive again. Also with the cerbios you can easily use a compressed file system and then if your keen fit the entire US game collection on a 2tb hard drive, The cerbios supports UDMA4,5,6 IDE data speeds compared to UDMA2 (this alone should be a good enough reason to not use a soft mod) this equates to faster booting and smoother game play. Having a hard modded system makes for a easy hard drive upgrade to larger HDD if you ever run out of storage ( up to 2 X 16tb hard drives) Yes and I understand you are allowed to have a backup copy of a game if you own the original disk. As I said the DVD drives are all failing due to age and in time even the DVD disks are going to fail. Now that you have soft modded the Xbox why not go the hole hog and add the two links to the mainboard and re-flash the bios chip . Even of you can't solder you can use conductive paint to link the 2 points. Once you have done that you can use Fatxplorer V3.0 beta to format the HDD and install a dash that will work in the Xbox, The you can load the HDD with backup games from the interweb. As an example it will take around 3-4 days to FTP enough to fill a 2tb and under a day to do that on a PC, I dread to think how long to copy from your game disks. Tring to copy from a DVD drive always going to be a problem with a 20 year old DVD drive. Here is a tutorial on using Fatxplorer https://www.hazeno.com/og-xbox-hdd-2tb-and-under Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

The version 1.6 has a PSU that is unique to that board only The 1.0 -1.1 has the same voltages as a 1.2 - 1.4 just the plug is different Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

All the voltages are consistently low so I am putting that down to you meter Can you test the voltages on the Orange, Red, Yellow wires as in the diagram on the top right for a 1.6 Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

When you say the red Xbox sign you mean the X in the middle for the screen is red ? Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

Does too much Flashing reduce the life of the TSOP?
SS_Dave replied to Naif's topic in TSOP Flashing
Yes and No you will need to re-flash the bios around 10 times a day for the next 20 odd years No BIOS (basic input/output system) is the program a computer's microprocessor uses to start the computer system after it is powered on and on a unmodified OG Xbox the bios chip is set to read only until you add the 2 links on the MB Cerbios and other bios files all boot from the bios chip they only look at the HDD for a configuration settings and they can all load from a built in configuration settings if there is no config file like cerbios.ini Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing. -
From the pictures you have posted there is nothing wrong with that trace repair and that is a extremely neat job Have you tested the Xbox to see if it boots to the original bios? Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

Soft mods and hard mods ( Mod chip ) do not work well on the same hard drive and have been know to give a black screen or not fully load correctly I would just use the mod chip all the time. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

What version of Fatxplorer did you try as the latest version will automatically all the know default passwords including the master passwords for some HDD's The latest version is Fatxplorer V3.0 Beta https://fatxplorer.eaton-works.com/3-0-beta/ It's up to version 26 If you have a copy of the eeprom.bin file from the Xbox the HDD is locked to this program can also unlock the hard drive Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

You do realise the clock cap is only running on 2.5 volt and at 3.3 volt you would need a 1k ohm resistor The calculated current draw on a 220 ohm is 1.04Ma (0.0104 amp) or 0.026042 watts Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

I see more damaged boards coming as 75% of new Xbox modifiers struggle to fit a mod chip in a 1,6 or add two solder links to a 1.0-1.4 for the bios chip write enable let alone remove SMD resistors and then solder a wire to a SMD component. The 200ohm resistor is not a complete short and I have read about heaps of people just adding a link in place of a clock cap in the version 1.6 without any damage. What? My daily driver meter is a Fluke 87v and it has a bar graph that's quick but it still easier to see a needle swing on a analogue meter, I also quite often use a CRO in place of the analogue meter. It really just depends on the job I am working on. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

Not enough to cause any problems I read of one person from Facebook mod scene that's had a 1.6 with a LED in place of the clock cap for several years and I have a 1,6 that a has a 220 ohm resistor fitted for at least 12 months and it gets regular use and is connected to the mains power 24/7. A single LED draws 10ma to 30ma depending on the brightness and can run from a coin battery like a CR2025 for hours. Yep while a digital meter is more accurate an analogue meter will give a quick ( almost instant) indication of yes it's X voltage at different points on a board. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

No drives you just need the PSU and Power Button connected to the mother board. Have the board turned on and flashing the LED Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

Bypassing the need for a clock capacitor on 1.6 model Xboxes
SS_Dave replied to Mu.'s topic in Hardware Mods
So will a 220 ohm resister in place of the clock cap and it's even easier to do. -
With the mod chip disconnected and you take a voltage reading from each pin on the LPC port from the top of the board while the Xbox is FRAGING This is looking at the top of the board and with the front of the Xbox facing you. Just let us know what each pin has .. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
