Yes you could replace the choke filter with a link were the red and black wire are on the board I have not seen a choke filter fail that looks as good as the one in your photo in any of the PSU's I have worked on in 40 years, But there is always a 1st. Is the filter open circuit? Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

I have been using Kynar wire for trace repairs in a large verity of electronic PCB repairs for longer than I care to say and it's prefect for Xbox trace repairs and for LPC rebuilds on a the 1.6 boards. What happens if you load a audio CD? will it spin up within a second or 2? If it is still slow to spin then I would try changing the caps on the drives PCB. It it starts playing the audio cd then you probably have a failing laser pickup. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

Also the heat shrink is meant to be there as when the part explodes it keeps it in one piece so it remains a short circuit. I have seen scary posts of people saying to just move the Varistor's and also to remove the safety cap that's across the mains input. Yes and looking at that photo you will need to replace both and you will find F1 (3.15amp) is also blown You can test them with a OHM meter and if you get a short circuit they are blown Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

No it stays. That is not a transformer it's a choke filter Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

It is a DuoX2 just the lite version was a single bios chip. Check the solder work on the bottom of the main board for a cold solder joint. It your not sure post a photo of the bottom of the board where the modchip is attached. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

The DuoX2 came from the factory with 2 bios files one of the files was for 1.0-1.4 and the other was 1.6 ( purple shield on the top left of the screen ) but would work with all versions. I have had some here where the small switch on the mod chip fails and I have found spray some contact cleaner in the switch and then move the switch several times fixes it Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

Is the tray opening and closing easily? If not replace the rubber belt at the front under the tray as if the tray isn't closing properly the drive will not check to see if a disk is present. It would be extremely unlikely to be a failed motor Have you cleaned the laser pickup lens with a Qtip and isopropyl? Also on the Samsung drives there is a row of resistor banks next to the 40 pin IDE connector that could have failed and the other possible failure is the SMD capacitors on the PCB. When looking for a replacement DVD drive it doesn't have to be a Samsung drive as all the OG Xbox DVD drives are interchangeable. Also keep this in mind when looking for a replacement drive If you can find a Xbox that's un-modded you have a better chance the DVD drive is in better condition, I find the ones that are soft modded ( or even chipped) with the stock HDD generally have a worn out DVD as they have played copied disk's most of there life, Ones that have had the HDD upgraded will tend have a better DVD as the game's has mostly been played from the HDD and not the DVD drive. Best to hard mod it and don't worry about the DVD drive. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

With the age of the OG Xbox's you maybe buying another one with a dud DVD drive. I have been repairing DVD and CD players for over 30 years and none of the service manuals ever said to adjust the pot's on the laser assembly, and any adjustments that are recommend you need a oscilloscope and a reference DVD/cd. In all my time working on Xbox's and reading 1000's of post's adjusting the pot is a short term fix at best. In my experience the laser failure is due to reading damaged, dirty, scratched disks or sometimes burnt disks that were burnt at maximum speed. In my view hard mod the Xbox and forget the DVD drive. Messed up TSOP flash EvoX splash screen than black screen
SS_Dave replied to SplinterCell's topic in TSOP Flashing
Now that you have flashed the bios you can use a PC IDE DVD drive in place of the Xbox DVD drive to load a Install disk to remove the soft mod and install a different dash. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing. -
I would check the Clock Cap as if that's failed the Xbox will not power on. It can also eat the traces under it as well You can replace the 1f cap with a 3mm led and have that as a standby light or a resistor around 270ohm But with out a multimeter it's all guess work Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

I must have been away to long and not seen this post Anyway Hard modding the Xbox ( Fit a mod chip ) will fix this. I believe there is a delay you can add to the boot process or ditch the SSD and used a Hard drive. Help to make Underclocking to 1.4GHz xbox (but I'm noob)
SS_Dave replied to yair3000's topic in Hardware Mods
From memory when I did some limited tests on my N64 version I didn't notice any real difference, also the speed test reported the same CPU speed. From what I have read in the past your better of having the 1.4Ghz Xbox for running emulators and have a stock CPU box for games. Who did the upgrade as the N64 freak 1.4ghz version of this mod has a switch that will reduce the clock speed by 50% Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.- 8 replies

Best to upload some pictures of the main board and you solder work. Is the led flashing 50/50 red/green or possibly 75% red and 25% green like the 2nd chart. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

The Cerbios 2.3.2 with HD+ support is not far away with the ElpisHD in beta testing https://www.xbox-scene.info/articles.html/cerbios-releases-new-custom-bios-v232-hd-alpha-with-hd-support-for-testing-bug-reporting-r28/ Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

At $105aud delivered no thanks I would rather put that toward a SSD and never use a DVD/CD again. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

It wont matter which way the varistor is fitted it's not polarized If you remove the heat sinks the stuff on the heat sink is a prefect square and if it was paste from the factory it would not be a square and more of a circle. I have seen someone that claims on some PSU's you only need to replace the one main filter cap with a 400 volt version but I seriously doubt it's that simple. I think console5 have power supply capacitor kits and they would have a 100-127 version and a 220-240 version of the kits Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

The part you removed (Z1) has nothing to do with the mains voltage, It's to prevent the main filter caps ( 330uf 200v ) from exploding if the PSU get a over voltage. The 2 main filter caps could potentially see 350 to 400 volts DC if you connect a 100-127 volts AC supply to a 220-240 volts AC. The input voltage is set by the link (J11) you removed. The heat sink with the yellow stickers as 2 X rectifiers (these convert AC power to DC power ) and 2 X regulators (these reduce the DC power from the rectifiers to 12 volt and 5 volt. There is also a temperature sensor to shut down the power supply if it gets to hot. There is parts of Australia that has night time temperatures above 40c and even were I live we have summer day temps of 38c or more, so don't worry about the heat sink temp of 41c. The Xbox and most consumer electronics will have been designed to work in 0c to 70c temps As long as the fan is clean the Xbox will keep it's self cool even with 20 year old thermal pads ( It's NOT thermal paste) between the CPU/GPU and the heatsinks. For the best cooling have the Xbox on a hard surface ( Not carpet ) with at least a 1 inch (25mm) preferably 2 inches (50mm) on both sides .
