  1. In the red box. On this board there is 6 banks of resistors and each bank has 4 resistors that are 330 ohm each and it could be just one of the resistors has gone open circuit. The capacitors in blue are also stating to fail and I have replaced heaps of that type in other electronics that have leaked. 3. Have you tried hot swapping from a working chip and flashing a 2meg back up? Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  4. What brand/type of sata adaptor are you using Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  5. Is the DVD drive a Philips? I have had issues with cerbios and Philips DVD drives when using cerbios but it works with a Thompson drive, also check you have not set the DVD to modern mode in in the cerbios.ini and the adaptor is set to master. ; Drive Setup 0 = HDD & DVD, 1 = HDD & No DVD (Legacy Mode), 2 = HDD & No DVD (Modern Mode), 3 = Dual HDD DriveSetup = 1 Also in Legacy Mode the DVD disk will only load from power on. 6. I think the OP was having issues with the Xenium V2.3.1 firmware on a 1.6 as it's a issues this a washed out Xenium Open Xenium menu screen and by rolling back the firmware to V2.3.0 fixes it. 7. Eurasia was a web site with a large collection of software and updates for all manner of gaming consoles and it closed up late 2017 Here is a link to a list of the files in PDF format that where on the site just before the site closed https://drive.google.com/file/d/1cVD6auCP5F0HULS4tIRWQalVYjOnNy8f/view?usp=sharing Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

  9. As far as I know the M$ Original Xbox there has never been any leaked circuits. The only way would be compare a working PSU against the one you have Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  10. I haven't used a DVD drive to create a HDD/SSD for a Xbox in nearly 2 years as Fatxplorer V3.0 beta can format and partition any size HDD/SSD and then you can quickly copy the required files to the relative dives ( Boot files to C, Dash to E, Games to F and G ) quicker that stuffing around with a DVD to format the and then app to partition the drive correctly then installing a dashboard from a flaky DVD drive. Also Fatxplorer V3.0 can format a HDD above 2tb correctly as apposed to using a DVD based disk that give you 2.2tb from a 3tb drive Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  11. Yes home made I made one about 20 years ago but it got lost in the several house moves The current one I made mostly from junk box part's about 5 years ago. This one has the two 100watt globes as some items have a high inrush current and would not power up with a singe 100watt globe. The idea is if the device under test has a short circuit the light will be full on and the voltage at the device is 0 volt so you don't release the magic smoke or have fire works. With DC you can use a current regulated power supply for the same thing. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

    SOFT MOD

It's sounding like the Xbox has a hard mod (Mod chip or onboard bios re-flash) as a softmod and hardmod don't play nice with each other and the 1st this that happens is a black screen on reboot after installing the softmod. 14. There is at least a 100watt draw ( 1amp at 110 volt) A Xbox will draw more that that when working ( a 220 volt will draw around 225-275watt) so both This is my Dim Bulb Tester, It's 2 x 100 watt lamps that can be switched to 1 x 100 watt lamp. This is a 1.2 with 128meg ram, 1tb SSD, Philips DVD drive This is with the DVD drive connected to power This is without the power on the DVD drive On power on the brightness starts brighter and dulls after the dash has loaded. You can see the difference the just the DVD drive makes. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  15. You are using a incandescent light ( the old lamp with a wire element) as a LED or compact fluorescent type will not work correctly The power supply on it's own in standby should not keep the lamp even faintly glowing unless you have forced the PSU on and put a load on the 12vlot and 5 volt outputs. 16. That will be a small signal switch diode line a 1n914 A Zener would be marked something like ZD904 What make and model supply is it? Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  17. Is the globe full brightness or 1/2 brightness ? And is that with just the PSU or the hole Xbox? Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  18. Yes the varistor is a bit like a ceramic capacitor in appearance. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  19. I think the only real damage is the Varistor and the Fuse The giveaway was the fuse that taped to the heat sink and then the black around the Varistor If it was me I would replace the fuse then plug it in with a 100 watt incandescent lamp (Dim Bulb Tester) in series with the active and see if it works and then replace the Varistor. Powering on a 1.6 supply without the mother board is a little bit harder but it's still doable See my post here. https://www.ogxbox.com/forums/index.php?/topic/11497-xbox-16-doesnt-turn-on-at-all-it-seems-dead/#comment-56162 Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  20. On a 1.6 the orange is the standby but without the 3.3 on the PowOk the power supply will fully shut down The 1.6 PSU supplies a 5 volt pulse on power up then Q7C2 sends a 3.3 volt to the PowOk to keep the supply running then to power on the rest of the PSU you send 3.3 to the PowOn. When testing a 1.6 PSU out of the Xbox you need to add a load the the 5 volt and 12 volt outputs, The load I use was a Stop/Tail light globe In this pic the Analog meter is set to 10vdc range and is reading 6.7vdc And in this pic the Analog meter is set to 50vdc range and is reading 11.1vdc Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  21. 220 volt in a power supply made for 110 volt and 90% of that black will clean off with some Isopropyl. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  22. I have seen worse damage. If the Varistor ( Z1 )is testing a short then it's faulty. The resistance reading increasing when you test where Z1 (Varistor) was fitted is normal as you meter is slowly charging the main filter cap. The varistor is basically across the mains input just after the fuse and if it sees a voltage above it's nominated rating (for a PSU from Australia the varistor is 275 volt AC) it will self destruct and go short circuit and that will cause the fuse to blow. When I am testing devices that have had damage like that PSU or devices I am unsure of I power the device though a 100watt incandescent light globe (google Dim Bulb Tester) and if the globe stays fully lit then there is still a problem. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  23. It could be a hard drive that's failing. If it was me I would drop in a modchip and build a new hard drive Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
  24. The varistor should test open circuit if it's good and if it test's dead short then replace it as it's done it's job. Also test the two points it was soldered too and with out the varistor it should not test short circuit but it may give you a reading that slowly increases in resistance. 25. The more I look at the pic of the damaged DVD disk the more I don't think the DVD/CD drive could cause that damage, If it was the drive the marks would be either straight across the disk or in a circular pattern. As the marks as at different directions it makes me think is the way the disk is stored or handled. The one little mark on the new disk right on the edge is probably from placing the disk on the tray. I have been working with all manner of DVD/CD players for 35 plus years and the marks you have shown in 99% of the cases come from the owner and not the player. I have seen the laser lens hit the disk but that drive would not read the disk for more than a second as it could not read the TOC (Table Of Contents) from the disk ( the metal disk the DVD sits on was pushed down ), That particular drive did leave a very small mark on the disk in a circular pattern right at the centre, I have also seen very light circular marks at the outer edge from a warped DVD disk and you could here a scraping sound as it was playing. Keep in mind that a DVD drive spins the disk at between 570 RPM and 1600 RPM depending on the laser position.
