    I'm in the same boat. Just dusted off my old X3 modded 1.6. Still boots to the latest X3 bios but can't seem to boot to the backup/flash bios...is it possible that the flash protection switch on the board itself is preventing me from booting into it?

    The flash protection being on will only cause an error to display when attempting to perform the actual flash operation. You will still be able to boot flashbios by quickly pressing power+eject. You know you have a problem if you tell it to flash a bin and you get an error. However, I would go ahead and flash Cerbios by booting X3 Config Live. Make sure you are holding white at the very moment when the microsoft logo shows up at the bottom at the end of the boot animation when booting the X3 bios. So start pressing a bit before that happens. You will boot into CL. Find the bios flashing in the menu and flash to bank 5 (assuming that the X3 bios is on 1-4). Bank 5 is switches 1,2 & 4 on. You can technically flash to 5 no matter what the switches are doing, but you will need to have those on in order to BOOT bank 5.

    A friend has found an xbox with an Xecuter with the front panel switches. He's asking if I could upgrade it to a 3TB with Cerbios and be able to use Insignia. As I've never dealt with hardmods, is there a guide that I can use to direct me? Is it as easy as formatting the hdd with Hazeno's guide, inserting it into the xbox, and updating the bios somehow? He doesn't know which version Xecuter it is, but since it has the bank switches, is it safe to say it's a v3? Is there a big difference between 3/3CE for bios? He's going to get me pics soon.

    I've read that some chips block access to xbl, is that no longer relevant if you have Cerbios?

    CE is a hardware difference. Bios will not matter there. Yes, if it has the switch bank up front, it's an X3.

    Cerbios will not block live. Either use X3 ConfigLive (hold white button during the boot animation to go into it) to flash Cerbios (I flash it to bank 5 (switches 1,2 & 4 on), keeping the X3 bios on banks 1-4 (switches 1 & 2 on), or use FlashBios which you can boot by pressing power and eject to boot. I would use X3CL to flash. You can flash via HTTP to keep things simple. Use an installer disc, or image the drive with a good downloaded image. You'll be aight. :)

    Good morning everyone!

    To give you an update: I sucessfully installed a new SATA HDD to my old XBOX. Everything is working fine. And it seems that the problem was my old IDE HDD. Connecting it to my PC, it did not work properly (lights flashing etc.) and FATXplorer wasn't able to find it. Either accidentally or because of the shock of getting a new BIOS, it must have crashed and burned. Well, it has done its work the last decades admirably - may it rest in peace.

    So, all things considered, everything is working again. Thank you all for your splendid support, awesome advice and help. It is really much appreciated.

    Cheers,

    southcamp

    Glad it worked out, dude. :)

    I'm not sure, you could try the Pico firmware and see. If there's an issue with that board, it would be routing for gpio 0 and 1 not being impedance matched, so if it doesn't work you could also try putting 27 or 22 ohm (or around that) resistors in series on the data +/- lines before the USB A host port and see if that helps

    I underestimated you, Machine. You really know your stuff. I had no idea. :)

    Well it won't look like XCM unless it has the lettering

    Once again, only my opinion: I don't see what the point of simulating an XCM is. I would honestly rather have a unique, pure Xbox shell that nobody else has. I say it's perfect the way it is. XCM was meant as a fresh replacement for an old shell. You HAVE a perfect shell. I say keep it. :)

    Thank you for the reply! Trying to run anything right now at the moment, just because of the original post asking about why Doom is running so slow. I was just more Curious overall because I wanted to get the 128 MB mod done and the idea of running all kinds of Dos games on the Xbox through dosXbox would be great! Trying to really gather information as to if there could be optimization done in order for more games to run well or what would be causing limitations and performance issues.

    I bring this up because I haven't been around on these forums long enough to know if this has already been discussed.

    What software specifically are you sure you would like to run?

  7. 8 hours ago, PRince404 said:

    It should help but by "how big of a margin" I don't know.

    @willis I dunno how it would though... How much RAM does a DOS program need? A few megs? I would think that CPU cycles need to be sped up.

    What I suspect is happening is that the CPU is being limited so that software does not run "too fast", kinda' like how the "Turbo" button was used on old PCs. However, this does not limit Homebrew like Duke Nukem (which I think is a very narrow port of the Dos program), and I feel that this is being bypassed somehow. Lemmie research. I am talking out of my ass so if I'm wrong then I will delete my post. Please somebody replace this post with knowledge....

    I have 128MB... I'll try out Dosbox. What software are you trying to run that is lagging?

    Thx. I was thinking of putting the IDE HDD into a case I have left and then use FATXplorer to get the files. Hope it will show the folders correctly. I ordered the parts to connect an SATA to the XBOX. But before that I need a functioning boot disc. Hopefully the new discs will work.

    Please tell me you used a Startech...

    Hey, thanks once more. I tried to do this today, but my PC wasn't able to read the drives C - Y. It showed them weirdly in my FTP programme and I couldn't access them.

    IDE or SATA?

    Hello, it's me again.

    So, today I decided to do what Samuel Beckett once famously said: "Ever tried, ever failed - no matter. Try again, fail again - fail better."

    I tried booting up the OGXBOX installer disc once more and this time it worked. I even got to the point "Remove softmod files". It did just that, although at the very end it showed some batch failure. Upon rebooting the XBOX, it still did not boot, but the light stayed green this time.

    So I booted the installer again. While in the main menue I was even able to connect to my XBOX via ftp, although I wasn't able to access any of the shown drives. This is where I am now.

    My first guess is that the DVDs I used were or the way I burned them was faulty. So I will get other ones and try burning the installers again. My second guess is that I won't be able to recover the files from my HDD which is sad, but that's life. Luckily, I did some backups before the flash.

    I will keep you updated. If you have any thoughts or advice I am very happy to hear it.

    Yes. "-Format and Setup>Format and Setup HDD>Format Single Partition>Format and setup partition C." There is nothing stored on C that you need and it probably could stand to be rebuilt anyway.

    If that doesn't work, use the disc to "install a dashboard". Your Bios is having trouble booting from wherever it's finding dash files first. Give it a fresh, functional dash to find. Aside from that, your only recourse is to FTP everything off of E with the installer disc's FTP client and to format it, which is really the best option as long as it is backed up and you can put your specific files back on it... but NOT dash files. Only things like Apps, Roms, etc. Goodies. You do not want to back up any dash files as they are bullshit now.

    Cerbios boot order:

    DashPath1 = \Device\Harddisk0\Partition2\evoxdash.xbe
    DashPath2 = \Device\Harddisk0\Partition2\avalaunch.xbe
    DashPath3 = \Device\Harddisk0\Partition2\nexgen.xbe

    Partition 2 = E

    Does anyone have a valid link to an overclocked bios?

    the one at the beginning of the post is unfortunately no longer reachable.

    A thousand thanks

    I would start patching with XBoverclock and trying each step with your console as you go, but here is a UDMA 6 Cerbios (Startech SATA) at 778MHZ to get you started. Be careful and make sure you want to flash before you do.

    If you're on UDMA 2 (IDE), here is the same file.

    Even the "DVD" and "Xbox" logo made it. However, these supports are fuckin KILLING me. They left crap all over the inside of the casing. And the resin got cloudy for some reason. I have a ways to go here...

    Has someone done a STL for the S Controller's body?

    And a gerber for the PCB?

    I'd be really stoked if i couls just make my own controller from a broken one.

    What would be an example of a broken controller?

    8 hours ago, PRince404 said:

    Controller's PCB are only two sided right? They don't seem Multi layer.

    I was actually referring to the DVD remote. I think the controller boards are both double-sided, yes.

    No. I don't have one. Is there any way to flash it from a softmod?

    No. The softmod uses the MS bios on the TSOP. When you boot from the TSOP, THAT is what's available to flash. Same goes for the LPC. If you boot from one you cannot address the other. It is possible to boot from another chip and then hotswap them while you are in XBlast or any other piece of flashing software. However I am assuming that you don't have one...
