viper3344
Hi Friends! I have a Crystal 1.6Xbox that was softmodded and had chimp upgrade the HDD to a 250GB IDE. At one point in time I also zeroed out the HDD key as well. Well, the HDD died (can hear it clicking) and the xbox wont boot (boots to error code) I want to go ahead and nuke the softmod, throw away the HDD and go hardmod. I have the Alladin chip and will be doing the soldering (and the rebuild). Guess my question is: Once I have the mod chip working and booting, I flash the chip with the 256 bios VIA Hexen disk.... then what..... do I have to remove the softmod somehow? Should I still have the old HDD installed? Just want to make sure the softmod doesnt do anything bad as I am setting up the new hard mod. Any help appreciated! SS_Dave
With the Aladdin chip fitted connect your new hard drive and load you favorite install disk (TruHeXEn 2020,SlaYer 2.7,Aid 4.53) and do a full install to a large hard drive. There is no need to flash the BIOS.. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing. viper3344
Awesome! I just see there are a TON of warnings when using these dash install disks about softmodding but maybe I am assuming they are for flashed consoles and not just softmodded (1.6's) right? Thanks for the info! ** oh and what I meant about the BIOS is the chip firmware itself. Ya know, the bios on the chip to support the Extra G drive and all that. Thanks!! SS_Dave
The warnings come from people the have a working softmodded Xbox and change to a hard modded system(Modchip or TSOP flash) as the 2 don't play nice with each other. also the Softmod is all on the hard drive and nothing to do with the Xbox BIOS or Mainboard. The Bois on the modchip should support a F: and G: drive but I don't think it will support a 2tb HDD. To get a 2tb you will need a modchip that has a bigger size like a Open Xenium or Xenium ICE, I still have some DuoX2 chips just for version 1.6 Xbox's with 2tb HDD's Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
