errspace
Every game I've tried has repeated simultaneous audio/video dropouts, though the game doesn't freeze (controller rumble still happens at expected time, and game time has passed when audio/video returns). It seems to be more common when there's more activity in the game scene, though it happens at 'quiet' times too, even in the dashboard (Rocky5) with some video modes. It's a lot worse in PAL-60, but happens in PAL and NTSC, over component and through HDMI converter. I've tried various combinations of video modes set in Rocky5, enigmah or lpartx. Nothing working yet. I haven't done anything hardware-wise to this thing in the ~15 years I've had it, and have only recently installed Rocky5 - seems like a hardware issue? A few of us know exactly what you're talking about. That used to happen to me when I used a very cheap component to HDMI adapter. I could never tell if it was the Xbox or the converter. It happened a FEW times when using the Pound converter too. But almost never. I've heard people say it's the CPU caps... but I've seen people replace them in vain, just to find out that their blanking problem is still there. I've heard quite a few suggestions about what causes this very annoying and sometimes fatal (the console blanks out so much it becomes practically useless for gameplay) problem. Nobody has really been able to pin it down. SO many people have replaced their CPU caps and declared victory... only to come back to the thread 2 days later, dejected, defeated, sometimes very pissed off and admitting that their console was still blanking out. Dude, FUCK this problem... a LOT. It's like my Coma Console: Undiagnosable. Boots 1 time out of ten, usually when it's first hooked up to mains, and the green light turns on and stays solid no matter what the console does... I'm hoping the TSOP is corrupted and I'll fix it by installing a chip, but I think I would get frags if that were the case. I don't think it's the backbone (CPU or GPU), because that would be a frag too, I believe. I think the MCPX has overheated and failed. It gets VERY warm very quickly in my view, and I believe there's a short in this chip causing the heatup. This theory cannot account for the fact that the console actually boots once in a while, so I can't explain that..
errspace
Curious, I saw it the first time with a cheap component-HDMI adapter as well. I assumed the problem was with the adapter and switched to a Xedusa HDMI converter. Same deal.
