About Me

  1. So I got my Xbox back after 20 years and it no longer boots into the dash. Its like its stock but the boot screen still says xecuter2 instead of Microsoft so I have hope that is still working. Could it be booting to the stock menu cause the chip is disabled? I'll attach a pic of my mod chip.
  2. Dusted off my Xbox for the kids today - powered it up, it defaulted to MS dash and prompted me for the date and time (good thing, I recall the nightmare of endless loops last time) Set the date, time, played a little Dance Dance Revolution on the native bios with the DVD-Rom (original media) Expected to power the Xbox off, hit the eject button, and boot into Xenium/EvolutionX or whatever I last had installed on the dash... but only get the stock MS dash, and no signs the modchip is functioning. Pulled the torx screws (had to find my screwdrivers) and opened it up. Modchip is installed on LPC header with single wire soldered to the topside of the board. Re-seated the modchip since I was in there, closed it all back up, hooked it back to the TV... still nothing but stock. Most likely cause of no-mod-signs-of-life?
  3. I have a version 1.0 xbox that was my first attempt at a mod however I did not get that far. When I first got it, the drive would not open and it would power up when plugged in. I broke the seal on the case and had a look inside. The clock capacitor threw-up over itself and drained over the board. I removed the capacitor and cleaned up the mess. Also had to repair some traces on the bottom of the board. I could then turn the xbox on and off and also reset it. I cleaned up the Thomson Drive and got that to open and read disks. Was even playing Burnout (badly scratched) from disk as well as Battlefront. Then everything changed. Now when I power the xbox, it will make three attempts to start. I can watch the two cooling fans start and stop. On the third attempt, the fans tend to keep running, however sometimes the unit powers off. Front leds blinking red and green. I can hear and feel the DVD and hard drive winding up. At no time do I get video. There have been no hard or soft mods to this xbox. A general review of the board does not show any bad capacitors or fried resistors. I have not found any additional bad traces, however I can give it another check with the meter. Any suggestions for troubleshooting, or is this unit kaput and ready for part supply?
  4. So, I've been at this LCD all day. Didn't work at all this morning. Cleaned contacts, added a bit of pressure to the tabs behind the screen. Now I have a magic lcd screen - when I move my hand close to the rear of the lcd, all pixels populate, crystal clear, but when I remove my hand, the bottom letters dwindle away... See here: https://youtu.be/C_iVmE75Wog Is there any hope? Any ideas?
  5. I copied some emulators through ftp to the G partition of my HDD, I was using WinSCP for this. When I finished, I closed the connection and then reset my Xbox with Lt+Rt+Back+Black; I got the Bios screen, the UnleashX boot screen (I'm using a custom skin, so the skin version of the boot screen appeared) and then...nothing, just a black screen. First I thought the video was bad, but that was not the case, then I tried to boot on safe mode but nothing happened. Some people on a subreddit tell me to use Hexen to install another dashboard, I don't know if this is going to work tho. Please, if you know what's wrong with my Xbox let me know, I'm scared
  6. I managed to get an Xbox from a thrift store for free, however, it boots up to an error screen with a number in the top-left corner, 12. I've tried searching online and have found it to be related to the disc drive. I've checked all the cable and have even swapped it with another one, that works. Yet, it still refuses to get past the error screen. Help would be appreciated, thanks.
