Dr Bruce
Hi all, I have a Crystal Xbox (original 1.6 case) that won't turn on. I have recapped the power supply and mainboard (3300uf 6.3v only)as a precaution. Power supply is good (have another 1.6 I can test it on) and I have a few readings to share (with power on). LPC Point 4: 3.382V. (Drops to zero when power pressed, before returning) Point 6: 5.07v Resistors R3G4: R 3.385V L 3.382V RG36: R 3.385V L 5.08V Transistor D7C2 Collector : 4.22V I've exhausted my knowledge now - can anyone help? KaosEngineer
Take a few pictures of the entire motherboard. Make sure they clearly show all of the caps by the CPU heatsink and PSU connector. Next, upload the picture(s) to an image sharing site then add the link to them in a reply. Dr Bruce
Thanks for replying, and correcting my transistor error https://imgur.com/a/eQYYex9
KaosEngineer
I see your problem. You removed the clock cap. A v1.6 Xbox will not power on without it. Possibly the reason wny the Q7C2 transistor's collector voltage reading was ~1 Vdc higher than expected. Why removal of the clock cap prevents the console from powering on ???
Dr Bruce
Thanks for this! I bought this as faulty, and didn't even notice the lack of a clock capacitor...?! I'll repair and test later, and report back. Thanks again for your help!

C8C1 - 1F 2.5Vdc rated supercapacitor - 2.7Vdc rated will work too.
