Thanks for the link.  To confirm, I purchase pieces and build the adapter to use with a standard LCD?  Out of curiosity, is there an LCD that allows me to plug direct without requiring an additional board?

Yes, character based LCD modules that have an SPI interface.

Finding on that is the right size to fit the Xbox is a bit difficult.  The inexpensive ones are way too big.

Some examples shown here:

https://www.crystalfontz.com/c/character-lcd-displays/interface/spi/82

Edit:

Using the SPI2PAR2019 board with a parallel interface HD44780 controlled LCD does add a couple of  optional features while playing a game:

  1. Display of the current CPU and System temperatures.
  2. Display of the fan speed.

Without the SPI2PAR2019, the screen would normally be blank.

I gotcha.  Thanks for the response.  I see what you mean.  All the 20x4 appear to be 63ish mm tall.  Based on that, I will go with the Ryzee board to allow for the HD44780 LCDs.  Are the boards readily available to purchase or do I have to order from the manufacturer in the Github? (Oshpark I think)

They used to be readily available from several different sources but I believe you'll need to order them from OSHPark at this time.

Chimeric Systems has sold them in the past but I see they are listed in the store as SOLD OUT. :(

Spi2Par2019 – Chimeric Systems

Not completely sure what is included for the $10 price tag.  I believe it's only the unpopulated PCB - line item 1 in the BOM below. (Edit: I see it does/did include an OpenXenium SPI port to SPI2PAR2019 cable too.)

You have to provide the rest of the parts:

Part Qty Possible Source
Ryzee119's spi2par2019 PCB 1 OSHPark (Bit expensive, 3 boards): spi2par2019backpack OR
spi2par2019faithful
Or, Download the required zip file from the Gerbers Folder and upload the zip file to their online ordering service. Use the following PCB properties:
2 layers, 45x30mm, 1.6mm thick, HASL, 1oz copper, no castellated holes
Arduino Pro Micro Leonardo 5V/16Mhz 1 Any clones will work. Make sure they're the 5V/16Mhz variant.
N-Channel MOSFET 2N7002 SOT23 at position Q1 1 Find anywhere convenient
Digikey
Aliexpress
JST SH1.0 10 pin 1mm connector (To connect to Xenium) 1 Digikey: Connector + 3xJumpers OR
Aliexpress: Connector with Jumpers (Get the 10P one)
General Hook-up Wire 26AWG or so A metre or two
