  1. I know it probably doesn't work but I was going to try anyway.  I just like messing with hardware.

I believe this is due to the GeForce 3 only having directx 8.0 support and retail NV2A has 8.1

AIT at the time released the Radeon 8500 with 8.1 and resulted in a quick move to the GeForce4. In all reality maybe shortening the lifecycle of the xbox due to chip production Nvidia did not want to make anymore.

  2. After a lot of searching found the known good slot configurations.

I believe card revision A03 and above is needed on retail cards and most of the Ti variants shipped with the update.

  3. I would have to look into it again but I think the jumper was for Pentium 2 FSB setting . If changing to a Pentium 3 it needed to be changed. I will look at my board and report the setting. VC820

I have a 800 MHz P3 and a Nvidia GeForce 3 not the  Ti variant. The system posts fine but hangs on the blinking courser booting from DVD February 2001.

N64 freak notes some causes in Troubleshooting. I lost a good post on the PCI slot configuration from assemblergamers. I'm still trying to find it again.

  4. I have heard off your board. The pictures show the stock plastic retention but look to have pins in the PCB holding down the heatsink. Was this an issue that made you go to the StarTech ? Also the DreamX Has this pin setup too but missing the mounts. I ask because I do not have my 1.4ghz board yet. Since you own a close setup, do you think the Arctic with its screw mounts would cool better due to its size or choke due to its top intake fan close to the lid ?

  5. As many people do not have stock clock speeds, has anyone tried a socket A (AMD) or socket 370 (Intel) retention clips for attachment.

I came across  the arctic cooling copper silent 3 and a few Star Tech options on Youtube.

Any thoughts or experience would be nice.

I do not use a the HDD mount, as i use a IDE to SD card replacement so I have space for these options or larger.

  6. As far as I know v1.6 motherboards do not have clock capacitors. I am lost on the question you have at the moment.

What I understand is you damaged the LPC PCB through solder joint trace.

If so I question what that  would even do  given a trace is likely cut for POST operation.

A fiberglass pen to expose a good section of the trace with new wire should correct the issue.
