  1. I have a few softmodded xbox consoles at this stage and I'm looking at buying hard drives to upgrade them. I'm wondering if SATA is slower than IDE even with the more expensive Startech SATA 2 IDE adapter? Is an SSD drive on a par with an IDE drive? Thanks
  2. Thanks for that - is it possible to transfer game saves from one xbox to another?
  3. Thanks - could you recommend some of these programs? Thanks
  4. Wow - I never even thought of that - I am pretty good with FTP now that I transferred Coin Ops 8 Massive to an xbox last night - I never thought of ripping the games and copying them accross - does anyone know of a good video of this idea on youtube? Or maybe a link to a good guide - I wouldn't even know where to start program wise - I have both a mac and a PC - thanks!
  5. Hi - having gotten the xbox original bug recently I have acquired a few original xbox consoles from friends and colleagues. I have a 1.0 that has a fan on the GPU so it's pretty noisey. I have a 1.6 and that can't be Tspoped and I don't have the skills required to add a chip. Today, a colleague gave me an xbox 1.1 - I opened it and checked to see if there was a fan on the GPU and there isn't - which is good in terms of noise. This also means that I can TSOP the 1.1. I have 3 or 4 more lying around in my attic that I collected over the years at car boot sales (mainly to get the games that came with them in bundle packs) - is there a particular model that I should look out for like the 1.1 seems to have the best of everything for me right now or am I wrong? Which version do you think is the best and why? Thanks in advance.
  6. Hi - I have a choice between a Philips or Samsung DVD drive for my newly softmodded xbox - both read disks - which one is the better option as I have quite a large collection of games on disk and intend on copying as many as I can to my hard drive but at 260GB with Coin ops 8 massive on there and other emulators - the disk drive will definitely get some use.
  7. Sorry I meant the hard drive is not on the compatibility list to lock so it can't be locked.
  8. Hi - I have a Western Digital IDE drive lying around that is definitely not lockable for Xbox - can I use it if I Tsop my v.1 Xbox? Thanks
  9. I got an xbox cheap as the drive didn't open - easy fix I thought and was delighted to find it was indeed an easy fix and that the drive worked. I turned it off and came back 6 hours later to find it was quite warm on the side where the power supply is located inside the xbox. Is this normal or something to worry about? Thanks in advance.
  10. Hi - I recently updated my hard drive using HDM v 1.9 and it is now ready to mod - I have two options 1. Since I have all the files from back in the day to use Splinter Cell the SID I could mod it easily then I can use put Rocky 5 over it using the Rocky 5 disk. OR 2. Go to the trouble of setting up Rocky 5 Memory card mod -using a flash drive and Splinter Cell - have all the leads from back in the day and recently downloaded all the files and software needed. My question is does it matter if I choose the lazy option (number 1 above) or since I'm starting afresh with a new drive should I take the Option 2 route? Thanks in advance
  11. Thanks should I put the hard drive back in the pc - open HDM and create the F drive before I softmod it?
  12. So I used HDM v1.9 and created a new xbox hard drive (40GB) that works. However, I don't see the extra space when I turn it on - it isn't softmodded yet. I'm just wondering if I should put the hard drive back in the PC and create a F Folder using HDM. Will the F folder naturally partition the rest of the available space on the drive or will the ROCKY 5 softmod make all the extra available space in the E drive? Any advice greatly appreciated.
  13. Okay so I used HDM V 1.9 and now have a 40GB hard drive that works in my xbox - since I did a clean install - it appears to be a stock drive and the extra space doesn't appear. I'm going to use Rocky 5 softmod - will the extra space show up then or do I need to do something else to get full access to the new hard drive? Thanks
  14. Disk is made - I'm guessing I'll have to re-softmod it - I want to use a more up to date softmod like Rocky 5 anyway.
  15. Hi - thanks a million for the advice I got the clean C and E files - I'm off to prepare the HDM disk now - thanks again!
  16. Thanks - do you know where I could download the C folder files? Could I transfer the C drive contents over FTP - I'm happy to do this but I'd prefer a fresh start as I'm sure I'd probably be copying over things I don't need from my current xbox drive.
  17. Okay so this morning I got HDM 1.9 working on an old PC - I need to backup and transfer my eeprom later - I notice when I look in the HDM folder right now that the C and E folders are empty - is that normal? Remember this is before I turn it into an ISO - Do these folders fill up with contents once the program is running and the hard drive is attached to the PC? Prob a stupid question but it's so long since I used this method that I can't remember. Thanks
  18. Hi - I am trying to rebuild an xbox hard drive - I have the eeprom - a meant gave me an old Dell IDE drive - I know HDM v. 1.9 will work on it as I used it a few years ago. Does anyone know where I can get the C and E drive files for the rebuild? Thanks
  19. Thank you so much for your advice and guide - do you have a link for the adapter? Thanks
  20. Xbox HDM 23USB Beta 2 or 3 - I couldn't find an easy guide on youtube in English to follow - do you have any links to a written guide or a video guide? Also would it be possible to put a 2.5 SATA drive in the xbox original? Thanks so much
  21. Can I use Xbox hard drive maker v1.9 on a windows pc with the IDE drive in an external dock? Thanks
  22. Is it possible to attach Xbox IDE hard drive to a windows 7 or later SATA PC and build the hard drive from a softmodded xbox or do I need to find a really old PC? I know I used a Dell Optiplex years ago but I have it away to a mate a couple of years ago and he doesn't have it anymore. If I need an old PC can anyone recommend a specific spec - as I might have to buy one second hand - thanks in advance.
