  1. That sound is your power supply(it does that when it powers off too fast when powered on). About the frag,i am going to tell you something similar that happened to me. I once wanted to add a fan on the gpu haeatsink(the passive one, without the fan on it)to make it cooler. I did, but the dvd drive was pushing on it when closing the chassis and after some days i started having this issue(frag, but after some attempts it boots normally). I removed the fan and it was fine again. So my guess for both of us is a cracked solder join. When it is cold, there is no connection and with all these attemps, the solder gets warm(expanding in the proccess)and then it makes connection. My suggestion here it to do a full reflow off the motherboard from both sides and check if that fixes the problem. Have a nice day

Or you can fit a LED in place of the clock cap or I fit a 220 ohm resistor in place of the clock cap and that board has been in regular use for over 12 months

Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

Will an LED or resistor draw more power from the board than the capacitor would? If no, then thats a very good solution

    Hello all

i have a NTSC copy of Psychonauts

i have searched the internet & no one has patched the XBE.

I had the same problem with GTA SANANDRES but found the patch on this forum.

is there a program to convert NTSC to PAL region games?

I would rather learn to do this myself (for future references)……BUT if a nice neighbour can do it for me this would be

    very much appreciated

You need an application called "DeXbe"

    No offence meant dude! .

Also if the xbox has been sat in a room for a good length of time then it will be at the ambient room temp when switched on, same temp as the air around it.

As it gets hotter the shield obviously absorbs some of the heat (its metal) therefore becoming slightly warmer than the ambient room temp. So how does this make the ambient air being pulled through it cool down?

Seems backwards to me that one. Maybe its just me tho.

Still think the shielding has little to no impact as in my own test I see no difference in two Xbox's running the same setup for 2 hrs next to each other. One has shielding, one does not. Temps did not differ by more than one degree for the entire test.

People including myself have been running this systems for years with no shielding and never had any issues.

The bottom of the shield gets warm. The sides are were its cool(From where the air comes in). And of course i didnt mean that the difference will be big, i only wanted to say that it does make a difference, even a tiny one.

Agreed, i think the guys just a little paranoid :)

Maybe he wears a tinfoil hat too :P

It also cools the incoming air down. When the air hits the cold shield it gets cooler, making more work on the warm components inside. It also acts like a heatsing since it makes contact with both the motherboard and the psu from the bottom side, absorbing their heat. I also dont like someone naming myself "paranoid" after i only said my opinion

Wow, really!? I thought this was quite loud, too.

Something else I’ve noticed, if even the slightest bit of pressure is placed on the case directly above the disc drive, there’s a metallic “vibrating” noise.

I actually had to loosen the screws on the case to stop it doing it all the time after reassembling it.

Also, is that read time “normal” between inserting a disc and the black Xbox splash screen showing?

    Wee video here:

Wow,it reads really fast too,you are lucky. About the grinding noise,i would recommend you adding a washer to each screw on the cover of the dvd drive from the inside. This way you will get rid of the noise and will help your drive to never get stuck because of the magnets again. But use thin washers, otherwise the dvd may not be well sandwiched inside wich will cause it to slip

The HDD is unlocked and when he uses the soft reset from the controller the Xbox is rebooting from the onboard bios and not the mod chip.

Thats what i am saying and when the onboard bios is trying to be loaded, the xbox gives problems. That sounds like a bad onboard chip for me

  8. Every xbox has its own overclock limit,so what works for me,may not work for you. You must try "xboverclock" yourself to find your xbox's limits. Once you do it,you will have to patch your games to run at your new cpu speed, otherwise your games will run faster than normal. You will only gain 2-3 fps wich is not worth in my opinion. Good luck and have a nice day

That is really strange but it fixed it.

I had even tried setting SD mode, set audio to analog ( I use Dolby Digital) and even copied a fresh copy from the a HDD that worked in other Xbox's

I even test loaded the game after changing the language to a different language and the game loaded fine just the text was not English. .

I wonder if there is other games that are fixed the same way.

    Cheers
